    • Tigers recall Keider Montero to start on Wednesday
Tigers recalled RHP Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander will take the place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) in the team’s rotation. He’ll start on Wednesday night against the Twins. Montero has already made two appearances with the Tigers this season, registering a 9.35 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and an 11/4 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings. He shouldn’t be considered as a streaming option on Wednesday night against the high-powered Twins’ offense. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

    • Tigers place Casey Mize (hamstring) on 15-day IL
Tigers placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 1, with a left hamstring strain.

Advice: Mize suffered the injury during Friday’s start against the Angels. The Tigers are hopeful that he’ll require only a minimum stint on the injured list before he’s ready to return. Keider Montero was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Mize’s spot in the Tigers’ rotation and he’ll start on Wednesday evening against the Twins. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Likely returning in relief
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Bradford (rib/back) has resumed throwing off a mound, and the left-hander is likely to fill a relief role once back from the injured list, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old was dominant in three starts for Texas with a 1.40 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB before he suffered a lower-back strain and a stress fracture in his rib, but he's not expected to rejoin the rotation once healthy. Max Scherzer is finally healthy after missing nearly the first three months of 2024, and Tyler Mahle (elbow) is also moving toward his season debut. Bradford's buildup and rehab assignment should be shorter since he's coming back as a reliever, but the Rangers are likely still looking for him to cover multiple innings and be an option for spot starts. • Recalled ahead of start Wednesday
The Diamondbacks recalled Mena from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Advice: Mena was in the Diamondbacks' clubhouse Tuesday, and manager Torey Lovullo noted that the right-hander, if officially called up, would deserve the opportunity to start Wednesday, per PHNX Diamondbacks. Mena was part of the package acquired by the Diamondbacks from the White Sox in the Dominic Fletcher trade in February. Mena has spent the entire year in Reno, and over his 16 minor-league starts, the 21-year-old is 3-2 with a 4.90 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 89:38 K:BB over 82.2 innings. He will make his major-league debut Wednesday on the road against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago
    • Diamondbacks recall Cristian Mena from Triple-A
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Cristian Mena from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: The 21-year-old right-hander will be thrown right into the fire, making his big-league debut on Wednesday night against the Dodgers. Mena registered a 4.90 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and an 89/38 K/BB ratio over 82 2/3 innings in 16 starts at Triple-A Reno. He’s certainly not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes. • Justin Verlander playing catch every other day
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Wednesday that Justin Verlander (neck) is now playing catch every other day.

Advice: There’s still no timeline on a potential return to the Astros’ rotation, but it’s encouraging to hear that the 41-year-old hurler is ramping back up. He’ll probably require a rehab start or two before he’s ultimately ready to return. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back prior to the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 2:24 pm
    • Cody Bradford (back) resumes throwing off mound
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Cody Bradford (back) has resumed throwing off of a mound.

Advice: Bochy also noted that when Bradford is ready to return that he’ll be utilized as a reliever instead of a starter. That’s because with the return of Max Scherzer and with Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle working their way back, the rotation outlook looks very muddled. From a fantasy perspective, it’s hard to envision Bradford making much of an impact upon his return if he’s not pitching out of the rotation. Rotoworld Today, 2:16 pm

    • Rockies recall Peter Lambert from Triple-A
Rockies recalled RHP Peter Lambert from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: He’ll take the place of Riley Pint in the Rockies’ bullpen after Pint was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday. Lambert has struggled in his chances with the big-league club this season, registering a troublesome 6.47 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 26/18 K/BB ratio over 32 innings in 15 appearances (three starts). He’ll continue to give them length in a depleted Rockies’ bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 1:30 pm

    • Described as pain-free
Yamamoto is no longer feeling pain in his right shoulder, but he hasn't yet started throwing, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Yamamoto was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain two days after being able to complete only two innings in his most recent start June 15. While the rookie right-hander is now pain-free, he isn't yet throwing, and manager Dave Roberts indicated that there's no clear timeframe for when the hurler will pick up a ball again. The organization figures to be cautious with Yamamoto, and he almost certainly won't return to action until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 12:55 pm
