    • Ankle injury not considered serious
Manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Edman (wrist) was able to field grounders again Friday without any problems in his sprained ankle, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Marmol added that Edman remains on track to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield or Triple-A Memphis sometime next week, barring any setbacks. The 29-year-old infielder has spent all season on the injured list, so an extended stint in the minors will likely be necessary, though it's still possible he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before the All-Star break. • Liam Henriks (elbow) throws another bullpen session
Liam Henriks (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

Advice: There’s some growing optimism that Hendriks might be able to give the Red Sox something in the later stages of the year, especially if they remain in the playoff chase. The 35-year-old veteran stopper is coming off Tommy John surgery and there’s little incentive for Boston to rush him back too quickly and risk a setback. However, he’s making steady progress at the moment. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

    • Red Sox claim Alex Speas off waivers from Astros
Red Sox claimed RHP Alex Speas off waivers from the Astros.

Advice: Speas ships up to Boston after being designated for assignment last weekend by Houston. The hard-throwing has big-time velocity, but has also struggled to command his impressive stuff, walking over a batter per-inning this season at the Triple-A level. If he ever scales back the free passes, he could morph into a pretty stellar reliever at the highest level. At 26 years old, it’s easy to see why teams continue to roll the dice. • Scratched with neck soreness
Ortiz was scratched from the Brewers' lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus the Cubs due to neck soreness.

Advice: Ortiz was originally in line to make his return to Milwaukee's lineup after neck problems kept him from playing Friday, but he'll instead require another day to heal. As a result, Andruw Monasterio will pick up another start at third base and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

    • Joey Ortiz scratched Saturday with neck stiffness
Joey Ortiz was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to neck stiffness.

Advice: Ortiz has been dealing with an ongoing neck issue the past couple days and it seems like the Brewers don’t want to take any chances at the moment. The 25-year-old was in Milwaukee’s original lineup for Saturday’s game against the Cubs, but he’s going to get an extra day of rest instead. It’ll be Andruw Monasterio taking over at third base and Brice Turang bumped up to the leadoff spot in his absence. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

    • Held out Saturday
Laureano isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Laureano is still managing a sore back, so he'll take a seat for the third game in a row as Atlanta faces Paul Skenes and the Pirates. Adam Duvall will pick up another start in right field while Laureano recovers. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

    • Gabriel Moreno (thumb) won’t need rehab assignment
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday that Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is not expected to require a rehab assignment.

Advice: Moreno is getting back up to speed in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League at the moment, but Lovullo made it sound like he’ll return on Tuesday instead of getting into some additional minor league contests. The 24-year-old backstop has been out since last weekend due to a left thumb sprain. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

    • Jake Bloss (shoulder) throwing bullpen on Sunday
Jake Bloss (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

Advice: Bloss resumed throwing earlier this week and figures to be ready to return from the injured list at some point in early July. The 23-year-old rookie landed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

    • Ian Anderson (elbow) starting Sunday at Low-A
Ian Anderson (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start on Sunday for Low-A Augusta.

Advice: Anderson continues to work his way back from last April’s Tommy John surgery and figures to be an option for Atlanta’s starting rotation at some point following the All-Star break in a couple weeks. Rotoworld Today, 11:29 am
