    • Ruled out through All-Star break
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Verlander (neck) will not return prior to the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander has resumed playing catch and appears to be making some progress as he works his way back from neck soreness. However, it's been about three weeks since he's thrown off a mound and he'll surely need at least one rehab start before returning. The 41-year-old should be back before the end of July if he can avoid setbacks. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Strikes out two for 21st save
Kimbrel picked up the save over the Mariners on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out two.

Advice: Kimbrel entered the contest with a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and fanned the first two batters he faced before getting Julio Rodriguez to pop out to first for the final out. The veteran reliever has converted each of his last five save attempts, posting a 9:3 K:BB over that stretch while not allowing any hits. Kimbrel has also recorded two or more strikeouts in four of his last five appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am
    • Day off Thursday
Ruiz is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Ruiz caught the first three games of the series, so he's due for a day off during Thursday's afternoon tilt. Riley Adams will do the catching for Jake Irvin. Rotowire.com Today, 6:16 am

    • Fans seven in eighth win
Bello (8-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over 6.2 innings in a 7-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out seven.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander was given a breather by the Red Sox -- his last start came back on June 25, when he lasted only 2.1 innings and surrendered seven runs to the Blue Jays -- and it paid off, as Bello produced his fourth quality start of the season on 91 pitches (61 strikes). The seven Ks were his highest total since May 28, while Wednesday's outing was the first time he hadn't issues multiple free passes since May 17. Bello should resume his regular turn in the rotation after this performance, which lines him up to take the mound at home early next week against the A's. Rotowire.com Today, 6:06 am
    • Craig Kimbrel picks up 21st save Wednesday
Craig Kimbrel struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to earn the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Kimbrel was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth. He made quick work of the Mariners, striking out two batters in a perfect inning on 18 pitches. The 36-year-old right-hander picks up his 21st save and 437th of his career, moving him ahead of Francisco Rodríguez for fourth all time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:41 pm
    • Grabs 21st save
Iglesias allowed a hit and struck out one over one scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Giants.

Advice: Iglesias' last two outings were in non-save situations. He's on a five-inning scoreless streak and has given up just two runs across 10.1 innings since the start of June. For the season, the closer has a 2.27 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings while converting 21 of 23 save opportunities. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm
    • Raisel Iglesias earns 21st save of the season
Raisel Iglesias allowed a hit and struck out a batter on Wednesday to nail down the save against the Giants.

Advice: Iglesias continues to stymie the opposition despite not putting up the same gaudy strikeout totals as his other late-inning relief counterparts. His 21 saves are fourth most in the league while both his 2.27 ERA and 0.88 WHIP are lights out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:01 pm
    • Brayan Bello whiffs seven in victory over Marlins
Brayan Bello recorded seven strikeouts and surrendered one run over 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Marlins.

Advice: Bello served up a run-scoring single to Jesús Sánchez in the opening frame, but managed to settle in shortly afterwards, keeping Miami off the scoreboard until the late innings of this one before turning things over to Boston’s bullpen with two outs in the seventh inning. It was a much-needed rebound performance for the 25-year-old righty after getting knocked around for seven runs over 2 1/3 innings his last time out against the Blue Jays. He’ll bring a pedestrian 5.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 71/30 K/BB ratio across 78 innings (15 starts) into an extremely favorable home matchup on Tuesday in his penultimate outing prior to the All-Star break. • Ryan Mountcastle (illness) returns to action
Ryan Mountcastle (illness) returned to the Orioles’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s battle against the Mariners.

Advice: Mountcastle sat out each of the team’s previous games due to illness, but he’s now feeling much better and is right back in there as the Orioles’ designated hitter and cleanup hitter. On the season, he’s hitting .273/.317/.460 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 325 plate appearances over 78 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:39 pm
