    • D-backs recall Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Hollowell was claimed off waivers a couple weeks ago from the division-rival Rockies and will augment Arizona’s bullpen depth heading into Tuesday’s game against the Rockies. Rotoworld Today, 3:35 pm
    • Up in big leagues
The Diamondbacks recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Advice: The right-hander was optioned to Reno after being claimed off waivers from the Rockies in mid-June, and he'll now receive his first look with the Diamondbacks. Hollowell made 26 appearances in the big leagues last year for Colorado and had a 5.88 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 32:18 K:BB over 33.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 3:31 pm
    • Latches on with M's
Devenski signed a major-league contract with the Mariners on Tuesday.

Advice: Devenski elected free agency Sunday after being pushed off the Rays' 40-man roster last week, and it didn't take long for him to find another gig with Seattle. He'll claim a spot on the Mariners' 40-man roster, though he'll begin his tenure with the organization at Triple-A Tacoma and serve as organizational bullpen depth after posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.58 ERA in 26.2 major-league innings this season. • Athletics designate Sean Newcomb for assignment
Athletics designated LHP Sean Newcomb for assignment.

Advice: Newcomb has been shown the door in Oakland after struggling to a 6.30 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 7/8 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (seven appearances) this season. The 31-year-old lefty was a notable pitching prospect a few years ago with the Braves, but never quite blossomed into an upper-echelon starter at the highest level. Rotoworld Today, 3:14 pm

    • Mariners sign veteran reliever Chris Devenski
Mariners signed RHP Chris Devenski to a one-year contract.

Advice: Devenski has been officially added to Seattle’s 40-man roster, but will head to Triple-A Tacoma for now as extra organizational relief depth. The 33-year-old veteran righty has bounced around between several organizations over the last few years, but it didn’t take him long to find a new home after being cut loose earlier this week by the Rays. He’s no longer a high-leverage option at this stage of his career, but he’s probably going to be useful in middle relief. Rotoworld Today, 3:04 pm

    • Activated ahead of start
The Angels reinstated Soriano (abdomen) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 due to an infection in his abdomen, but he'll now return following a minimum-length stay to start against the Athletics. He could be under a pitch count during his first start back, but he'll still be in a position to succeed versus a weak Oakland offense. Andrew Wantz (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm

    • Angels activate José Soriano for Tuesday start
Angels activated RHP José Soriano from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Soriano will take the ball on Tuesday night against the division-rival Athletics after missing one start due to an abdominal infection. The 25-year-old righty has pitched well this season with a solid 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 60/28 K/BB ratio across 72 1/3 innings (14 appearances, 12 starts). He’s a worthy streaming option for fantasy managers, especially in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 2:45 pm

    • Designated for assignment
The Athletics designated Newcomb for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Newcomb made just seven appearances last year for Oakland and it seems that it will be the same this year as well. After posting a 6.30 ERA across 10.0 innings in seven games for Oakland, the 31-year-old will be looking to be claimed elsewhere. In a corresponding move, Tyler Ferguson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 2:18 pm

    • Nearing bullpen session
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Tuesday that Bednar (oblique) has progressed to throwing from 120 feet and should soon resume mound work, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The right-hander was briefly shut down from throwing after he landed on the injured list June 23 with an oblique strain. Bednar will be eligible to be reinstated to the active roster soon, but he could spend more than the 15-day minimum on the shelf since he's yet to get back on the mound. However, he doesn't appear to be in for a lengthy absence and may be able to rejoin the Pirates before the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 2:14 pm
