  • Yunel Escobar exits game with hand injury
Yunel Escobar left Monday's game against the Braves with an apparent left hand injury.

Advice: He appeared to be spiked by Andrelton Simmons as Simmons collided with him at third base. The Nationals should provide an update on Escobar's status before long.

  • Aaron Hill goes hitless in loss to Pirates
Aaron Hill's rough start to the 2015 season continued on Sunday as he went hitless in a losing effort against the Pirates.

Advice: He finished the afternoon 0-for-2 and left two men stranded. If the Diamondbacks are hoping to build his trade value and then flip him elsewhere, his atrocious .156/.208/.200 slash certainly isn't helping their cause.

  • Colin Moran knocks in eight runs Saturday
Astros prospect Colin Moran went 5-for-8 Saturday with eight RBI in a doubleheader for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: That RBI total represents more than half of Moran's season output. Moran has raised his average from .180 to .254 over the last three games. This marks Moran's second year in Double-A after hitting .304 in 28 games for Corpus Christi in 2014. The 22-year-old and former first-round draft pick is still looking for his first home run of the season.

  • A's ink Ryan Roberts to minors deal
Athletics signed INF Ryan Roberts to a minor league contract.

Advice: Roberts was released by the Royals late in spring training after hitting just .219/.265/.313 in Cactus League play. He'll give the A's some veteran infield depth.

  • Juan Uribe hits first home run
Juan Uribe's first homer of the season was a two-run shot off the Padres' Chris Rearick on Saturday.

Advice: Uribe is being pushed by Alex Guerrero and Justin Turner at third, but he still has his glove working to his advantage, meaning he shouldn't have to match the numbers of the other two in order to remain a regular. And it should probably be acknowledged that he did hit .311/.337/.440 in 386 at-bats last season.

  • Ramirez collects three hits in loss to Cards
Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run double in the eighth inning of Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Ramirez finished the game 3-for-4, one of the lone bright sparks for a floundering Brewer team. Despite the strong game, Ramirez is still hitting just .197/.197/.295. The 3-15 Brewers represent a statistician's nightmare. Last season, Ramirez slashed .285/.330/.427 for the Brew Crew, so it stands to reason that his numbers probably won't remain flat-lined for the rest of the season. More games like Saturday's will help toward that cause.

  • Brett Lawrie not in Athletics lineup Saturday
Brett Lawrie is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Astros.

Advice: Max Muncy, who had his contract purchased on Saturday, will be making his major league debut and starting in his place at third base. Expect Lawrie to return to the hot corner on Sunday.

  • Jays designate Steve Tolleson for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF Steve Tolleson for assignment.

Advice: The 31-year-old hit just .200/.250/.400 with five strikeouts in his 16 plate appearances with the Jays. With his versatility, there's a chance that Tolleson could attract interest on waivers, otherwise he'll continue to provide organizational infield depth for the Jays.

  • Ryan Flaherty (groin) placed on disabled list
Orioles placed INF Ryan Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 23, with a strained right groin.

Advice: Flaherty thinks he'll be ready to play in a week or so, but Baltimore couldn't afford to wait. With J.J. Hardy (shoulder) and Jonathan Schoop (knee) also out, the O's will roll with Everth Cabrera at shortstop and Jimmy Paredes and Rey Navarro at second base for a while.

  • Conor Gillaspie goes 0-for-4 in loss
Conor Gillaspie went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Thursday, dropping his average to .195.

Advice: Gillaspie was a nice platoon player for the White Sox last season, but he's yet to get it going this year, with just two RBI and two walks to go along with his subpar average. Maybe it has something to do with the plantar fasciitis he was diagnosed with this spring. If he continues to slump, the White Sox could give more time at third base to Gordon Beckham.

  • Brett Lawrie goes 0-for-4 in loss
Brett Lawrie went 0-for-4 with two more strikeouts in the loss to the Angels on Thursday.

Advice: While Josh Donaldson was delivering his fourth homer and sixth double for the Blue Jays. Lawrie thus far has three extra-base hits, four RBI and a 23/2 K/BB ratio in 65 at-bats. The A's might want to give Mark Canha a look at third base if this keeps up.

  • Orioles waiting on Schoop's swelling
The Orioles are waiting for the swelling in Jonathan Schoop's knee to subside.

Advice: Schoop was fitted with a brace on Tuesday. The infielder is recovering from a Grade 1 PCL tear in his left knee. Once the swelling's completely gone, the Orioles should be able to re-evaluate him and set up a more concrete timetable for his recovery.

  • Flaherty dealing with tweak to groin
Ryan Flaherty suffered a groin injury while running from first to second on Wednesday.

Advice: He apparently suffered it on the very last play of the game. Flaherty indicated that he didn't believe this was a DL-worthy injury. If he is able to avoid the DL, he'll still likely miss at least a few games this weekend.

  • Ramirez homers to help Brewers past the Reds
Aramis Ramirez finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday, helping the Brewers in a victory over the Reds.

Advice: Ramirez sent a Homer Bailey offering over the fence in left-center in the fifth inning, tying the game up at two apiece. The veteran third baseman entered the game with an ugly .157/.157/.196 slash line, having recorded only two extra-base hits (both doubles) in 51 plate appearances. The 3-13 Brewers will need Ramirez to heat up if they're going to turn things around.

  • Jose Iglesias not in Tigers' lineup Thursday
Jose Iglesias is not in the Tigers' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Yankees.

Advice: Sounds like it's just a day of rest. Hernan Perez will start at shortstop in the matinee game.

  • Yangervis Solarte hits second homer
Yangervis Solarte hit his second homer Wednesday off the Rockies' Kyle Kendrick.

Advice: Solarte needs to play regularly until he cools off, and it's not a bad thing that it's at Jedd Gyorko's expense, considering that Gyorko hasn't hit since 2013. Solarte is batting .343 in 35 at-bats.

  • Escobar clears bases with a double in a loss
Yunel Escobar went 1-for-4 with a three-run double in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Escobar cleared the bases with two outs in the third inning, helping the Nationals close out a 5-0 deficit with a five-run frame. The third baseman played hero on Tuesday, clubbing a walk-off home run and came up big again. In 56 plate appearances, Escobar has two home runs, five RBI, and is batting .275/.339/.451.

  • Asche slugs solo homer in a losing effort
Cody Asche provided the Phillies their only run with a solo home run in a losing effort against the Marlins on Wednesday.

Advice: Asche tied the game at one apiece with a second-inning blast against Jarred Cosart. He finished 1-for-3 on the night. Since jumping out to a fast start, Asche has cooled off in recent days, as he's now 4-for-23 in his last six games. His fantasy impact is rather limited as he's not even a lock to finish with double digits in home runs and doesn't do much else offensively.

  • Aaron Hill at 3B for Diamondbacks on Wed.
Aaron Hill is starting at third base for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Advice: Yasmany Tomas got the nod there Tuesday, but it will probably be Hill's job for the most part while Jake Lamb (foot) is out. Tomas played poor defense at the hot corner all spring and he looked bad there on a couple chances Tuesday night. He had only been playing left field at Triple-A Reno.

  • Herrera's grand slam isn't enough vs. Reds
Elian Herrera went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI Tuesday, but the Brewers fell to the Reds.

Advice: The loss certainly wasn't any fault of Herrera's. The 30-year-old knocked an RBI double in the third inning before launching a grand slam in the sixth. Herrera had just one homer in 140 major league games before Tuesday. He'll fill in for Scooter Gennett in the near term, but Herrera isn't much of an offensive force to be reckoned with, Tuesday notwithstanding.

  • Escobar swats a walk-off homer vs. Cardinals
Yunel Escobar hit a walk-off solo home run in the 10th inning to send the Nationals to a victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Advice: With two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning of a 1-1 game against the Cardinals, Escobar sent a Carlos Villanueva offering over the fence in left-center to end the game. Escobar, who was 0-for-4 prior to the homer, hadn't played since Friday due to a groin issue. He has quietly had a productive start to the season, batting .277/.346/.447 with a pair of home runs.
    Tuesday, 7:55 pm
  • Aramis Ramirez out of Brewers' lineup Tues.
Aramis Ramirez is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Reds.

Advice: Jason Rogers will start at third base and bat sixth. Ramirez, 36, has posted a rough .130 batting average and .304 OPS through 46 plate appearances this season.
    Tuesday, 2:31 pm
  • Yunel Escobar (groin) back in lineup Tuesday
Yunel Escobar (groin) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Cardinals.

Advice: Escobar ended up missing just two games due to a groin strain. He'll bat sixth against right-hander Lance Lynn as the Nationals are slowly getting back to full strength.

  • Brewers call up Elian Herrera
Brewers purchased the contract of INF/OF Elian Herrera from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Advice: He'll provide some bench depth while Scooter Gennett (hand) is sidelined. Herrera owns a .261/.318/.333 batting line in the majors.

  • MRI on Escobar's groin shows inflammation
An MRI on Yunel Escobar's groin showed only inflammation.

Advice: Escobar was injured on Friday when he tweaked his groin while running out a ground ball. He'll avoid the disabled list for now, as the hope is that he can work out Sunday and return to the lineup Tuesday after Monday's off day. Danny Espinosa is at third base Sunday.
    Apr 19, 7:45 am
  • Aramis Ramirez getting a day off Sunday
Aramis Ramirez is not in the Brewers' lineup Sunday.

Advice: It's a routine day off for Ramirez, who is off to a brutal .140/.140/.186 start at the plate. Luis Jimenez is at third base Sunday in his place.

  • Orioles place Jonathan Schoop (knee) on DL
Orioles placed INF Jonathan Schoop on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 PCL tear in his left knee.

Advice: Schoop also has a sprained MCL. He sustained the injury in Friday's game from a hard slide by Pablo Sandoval at second base. The O's are encouraged that there was no damage to his ACL and are optimistic that he'll be able to return before the end of the regular season. Ryan Flaherty and Everth Cabrera should both see regular playing time in Baltimore's middle infield for now.

  • Yunel Escobar (groin) to undergo MRI
Yunel Escobar (groin) will undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Advice: Escobar said that he felt okay on Saturday and remains optimistic that he'll be able to avoid a trip to the disabled list, but the Nationals want to make sure before making a determination.

  • Yunel Escobar leaves with apparent injury
Yunel Escobar was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies in the fourth inning with an apparent injury.

Advice: Escobar appeared to come up lame while running out a ground ball in his final at-bat and did not take his place in the field defensively. The team should have an update on his status shortly.
