  • Athletics option Max Muncy to Triple-A
Athletics optioned INF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: It should only be a brief stay for Muncy, who should rejoin the A's on Tuesday when rosters expand. The 25-year-old is hitting .217/.283/.386 with two homers and six RBI in 83 at-bats with the big league club this season. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:23 am

  • Nunez homers in low-scoring win vs Astros
Eduardo Nunez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Friday's win over the Astros.

Advice: Nunez cranked a solo home run in the third inning off Astros starter Scott Kazmir for the game's first run. He would also drive home the game's final run just an inning later, this time on a ground out. The utility infielder's done a nice job in his relatively limited playing time, hitting .269/.306/.419 with three homers, 17 RBI and five steals over 160 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:43 pm

  • Lowrie can't manage hit in loss to Twins
Jed Lowrie went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Friday's loss to the Twins.

Advice: Lowrie failed to find traction against Kyle Gibson and the Twin bullpen. He's been dealing with a left thumb contusion over the past week, but the scuffles are nothing new. He's hit-less in his last 22 at-bats and now sports a .225/.329/.399 line with five homers and 17 RBI. Injuries have held him to just 41 games this season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:34 pm

  • Schoop has golden sombrero in loss to Rangers
Jonathan Schoop had a night he'd like to forget in Friday's loss to the Rangers, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.

Advice: Schoop was completely owned three times by Cole Hamels, then whiffed against closer Shawn Tolleson in the ninth. Picking up the golden sombrero was a rare off night in what has been a terrific season thus far for the O's second baseman. Even with the 0-for-4, he's hitting .293/.322/.505 with 10 homers and 30 RBI. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:12 pm

  • Kang drives in two as Pirates beat Rockies
Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Pirates topped the Rockies 5-3 on Friday.

Advice: Kang got the Bucs on the board with an RBI single in the first inning then extended their advantage with an RBI double in the third. What is turning out to be one of the best free agent acquisitions of the winter, Kang is hitting .294/.368/.463 with 12 homers and 48 RBI in what has been a fantastic rookie season. • Prado cracks homer off Scherzer
Martin Prado went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: Prado's two-run homer against Nationals starter Max Scherzer in the third inning boosted his overall total of taters to seven. He also scored twice. He's been on a mini power surge over the last week, having hit two homers and two doubles while working himself up to a seven-game hitting streak. That being said, his overall season triple-slash remains relatively punch-less at .274/.320/.374. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:18 pm

  • Cowart notches RBI single, steal in loss
Kaleb Cowart went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a steal in Friday's loss to the Indians.

Advice: The single was just Cowart's fourth hit since he was called up on August 18. He was the 18th overall selection in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft and hit .323/.395/.491 with six homers and 45 RBI over 62 games at Triple-A Salt Lake. As a 23-year-old, he still has a ways to go before we can truly determine what he'll be at the big league level. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:00 pm

  • Chris Johnson (infection) to return Tuesday
Chris Johnson (infection) will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Advice: Johnson is over his infection caused by a spider bite, but the Indians will wait until roster expand to activate him. He's hit .429/.429/.571 over six games since joining the Indians. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:04 pm

  • Pedro Alvarez hits 21st homer
Pedro Alvarez hit his 21st homer Thursday off the Marlins' Justin Nicolino.

Advice: It doesn't look like the Pirates are going to try Aramis Ramirez at first base, so Alvarez's starting job against righties appears safe. It certainly helps that he's hitting .302 with six homers and 15 RBI in 63 at-bats this month. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:49 pm

  • Jung Ho Kang out of Pirates' lineup Thursday
Jung Ho Kang is out of the Pirates' lineup Thursday.

Advice: Kang was also given a day off Tuesday. He's been worked hard in his first major league season and Jordy Mercer is back from his knee injury to take some of the reps at shortstop. Mercer will start there and bat eighth versus Miami on Thursday evening. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 12:26 pm

  • Freese (finger) could return early next week
David Freese (finger) is expected to be activated from the disabled list early next week in Oakland.

Advice: Freese has been with Triple-A Salt Lake since Sunday and will begin playing third base there on Friday. The third baseman has been on the disabled list since July 23 with a non-displaced fracture in his right index finger. He's hitting .240/.309/.397 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 90 games this season for the Angels. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 8:35 am

  • Ryan Flaherty goes 2-for-3, homers
Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk versus the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Flaherty should be the Orioles' primary shortstop the next week with J.J. Hardy out. It doesn't make him a great mixed-league option, but he could be a cheap DFS play from time to time. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:54 pm

  • Adonis Garcia goes 3-for-5, homers
Adonis Garcia went 3-for-5 and hit his sixth homer Wednesday against the Rockies.

Advice: Garcia has shown ample pop, but he has a .256 OBP in 114 at-bats and he's a bad defender at third. He's due to become a backup next week when Hector Olivera arrives in the majors. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:31 pm

  • Castellanos drills solo homer in win vs. LAA
Nick Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Tigers topped the Angels 5-0 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos started the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer off of Hector Santiago. It's his ninth home run in 36 second-half games, accounting for 60 percent of his 15 total long balls on the season. Castellanos has driven in 63 runs and compiled an adequate .248/.303/.424 batting line. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:19 pm
  • Prado homers, but Marlins fall to Pirates
Martin Prado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Prado tied the game up at 1-1 in the first inning, driving a solo home run to left field off of Jeff Locke. The infielder has hit for more power lately, hitting two doubles and two home runs within the last week, but it mostly hasn't been there for him this season. Prado is batting .270/.316/.364 with six home runs and 40 RBI. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:05 pm

  • 'Good chance' Franco (wrist) returns in '15
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin said there is a "good chance" Maikel Franco (wrist) returns before the end of the season.

Advice: Just Tuesday Mackanin expressed optimism that Franco will be back sometime this year, but now he's moved on to handicapping the likelihood. Franco has been out since August 11 with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. Even if he does return, the probability is in question enough that it probably won't be for any meaningful length of time. He should be fine for the start of the 2016 season, though. Chris Johnson (infection) hit balls off a tee on Monday.

Advice: Johnson has been on the shelf since a spider bite on his left thumb on August 14 became infected. He's had to have the infection drained twice. "I ended up having an infection and they had to treat it with antibiotics," said Johnson. "The last two days I've finally been able to swing the bat." Advice: Freese has been with Salt Lake since Sunday, but he won't be tried in the field for another 3-4 days. • Kang not in Tuesday's lineup
Jung Ho Kang is out of the Pirates' lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

  • Mackanin hopeful about Franco
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin is optimistic that Maikel Franco (wrist) will be able to play again this season.

Advice: Franco has been sidelined since August 11 with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. He's currently wearing a brace on the wrist, but Mackanin said last week that the break is not as bad as originally thought. "I’m optimistic that he might be able to come back," said Mackanin. "I’m not sure the medical people are going to allow us to use him unless he’s 100 percent. If he’s 100 percent, I’d like his bat back in the lineup and I’d like his glove back in the lineup." The Phillies have nothing to play for right now, so there's no reason to rush him back into action. While the door hasn't been officially closed on his season, fantasy owners shouldn't count on him. • Schoop drives in three runs vs Twins
Jonathan Schoop went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI singles and three total RBI in Sunday's 12-inning loss to the Twins.

Advice: Schoop broke through with an RBI single off Twins starter Mike Pelfrey in the third inning. He burned Pelfrey again in the fifth, this time with a two-run single. At just 23-year-old, the second baseman has impressed with a .296/.328/.509 triple-slash, nine homers and 27 RBI over 169 at-bats. That production makes him a solid option for mixed league play at this point. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 3:25 pm

Jed Lowrie is listed as day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left thumb contusion.

  • Jed Lowrie exits with possible hand injury
Jed Lowrie left Sunday's game against the Dodgers with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Lowrie flied out in the bottom of the sixth inning and then had to be replaced to start the seventh. It's possible he did something to his hand on a swing, but the Astros should provide an update shortly. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 1:11 pm

  • Kaleb Cowart hits first home run
Kaleb Cowart hit his first major league home run Saturday off the Blue Jays' Marco Estrada.

  • Kaleb Cowart still hitless since callup
Kaleb Cowart went 0-for-3 on Friday and has opened his big-league career 0-for-13 with six strikeouts.

Advice: It's no surprise that Cowart is looking overmatched against big-league pitching. It's also something that doesn't figure to change right away. The Angels really should have stuck with Conor Gillaspie at third base and hoped for the best. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:42 pm

  • Freese to begin rehab assignment on Sunday
David Freese (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Advice: Freese was able to throw a ball without any issues on Thursday and Friday, which was the last hurdle he needed to clear before appearing in live game action. He should be able to rejoin the Angels lineup before the end of the month. Rotoworld.com Friday, 4:37 pm

  • Nick Castellanos homers twice, doubles twice
Nick Castellanos went 4-for-5, two homers, two doubles and five RBI as the Tigers smoked the Cubs 15-8 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos joined Denard Span and Jackie Bradley Jr. as the only players with four extra-base hits in a game this season. He's the first Tiger to do it since Ivan Rodriguez on Apr. 5, 2006. Castellanos seemed to be turning his season around in July, but he had gone right back to slumping this month (.222, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 13 games) before busting out tonight. The talent is there for him to turn into a quality regular, but he's only shined against lefties this season (all four hits tonight came off southpaws). He's not going to be promised anything in 2016 unless he puts together a strong finish. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:20 pm

Advice: Freese threw Tuesday without pressure on his broken finger and the hope is that he’ll be able to throw with pressure by the end of the week.
