  • Cervelli has three-hit effort versus Twins
Francisco Cervelli went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

Advice: The 29-year-old was a quiet pickup this past offseason after the Pirates lost Russell Martin, but he's been an offensive plus for the Bucs this year. The multi-hit game was Cervelli's fourth in a row, raising his line to .301/.367/.410 with 32 RBI and 32 runs scored on the season. Yesterday, 9:02 pm
  • Duda homers as Mets shut out the Padres
Lucas Duda went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, helping the Mets to a win on Tuesday against the Padres.

Advice: Duda staked the Mets to an early 2-0 lead when he drilled a James Shields offering over the fence in center field. Given how masterful Noah Syndergaard was on the mound, it was the only offense the Mets would need. Duda has three home runs in his last three games, giving him 15 on the season with 42 RBI and a .236/.338/.433 batting line. Yesterday, 6:45 pm
  • Max Muncy recalled from Triple-A
Athletics recalled INF Max Muncy from Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: He's taking Ben Zobrist's spot on the roster. Muncy has hit only .203/.273/.367 with the big club this season. Yesterday, 4:01 pm
  • Rockies option Wilin Rosario to Triple-A
Rockies optioned 1B Wilin Rosario to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: The move comes with odd timing given that Rosario is rumored to be on the trade block. The 26-year-old is batting just .273/.293/.426 in 69 games this season, but he does have some power and would make sense as a part-time DH for an American League team. Yesterday, 1:52 pm

  • Angels recall Navarro from Triple-A
Angels recalled INF/OF Efren Navarro from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: As expected, Navarro will replace Matt Joyce (concussion) on the active roster. The 29-year-old is batting .260/.306/.312 in 82 plate appearances this season and will serve as a left-handed bat off the bench. Yesterday, 1:03 pm
  • Brock Holt (knee) out again Tuesday night
Brock Holt (knee) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.

Advice: Holt sat out Monday after leaving Sunday's game with a hyperextended knee and he apparently needs at least another day. Jemile Weeks will fill in at second base again on Tuesday while Alejandro De Aza will get a shot out of No. 2 spot in the order. Yesterday, 12:25 pm

  • Indians option Aguilar to Triple-A
Indians optioned 1B Jesus Aguilar to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Aguilar was called up on Friday and went 2-for-9 with an RBI over three games with the big club. Michael Roth will take his place on the active roster. Yesterday, 12:17 pm

  • Olson hits two more home runs
Athletics prospect 1B Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI on Monday for Double-A Midland.

Advice: He’s batting .237/.376/.417 with 12 home runs, 25 doubles, 52 RBI and a 103/76 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 96 games in the Texas League. Olson has been on a power surge of late, as he now has four home runs in his last five games after hitting seven over his previous 91 contests at Midland. After clubbing 37 long balls last season at High-A Stockton and tallying 23 in his full-season debut the previous year, Olson’s sharp drop-off in home runs this season has been a disappointment. However, the good news is he’s continued to take walks (76) and reach base at a high clip (.376) despite facing older and more advanced pitching at the Double-A level. Yesterday, 11:22 am

  • Navarro expected to be called up Tuesday
The Angels are expected to call up Efren Navarro from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Advice: It's possible that he'll replace Matt Joyce, who could be headed to the 7-day concussion disabled list. Navarro, 29, has a .260/.306/.312 batting line in 82 plate appearances with the Angels this season. Yesterday, 10:43 am
  • Jake Elmore optioned to Triple-A
Rays optioned INF Jake Elmore to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Elmore has hit just .206/.263/.284 with the Rays this season. Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) will be activated Tuesday. Monday, 7:39 pm

  • Mark Reynolds nursing bruised hand
Mark Reynolds is not playing Monday for a second straight day due to a bruised left hand.

Advice: Reynolds was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game. He could be available to pinch-hit Monday, although he noted that he'd have to hold his bottom hand off the end of the bat because of how sore it is. Dan Johnson is at first base Monday. Monday, 5:39 pm

  • Joaquin Arias designated for assignment
Giants designated INF Joaquin Arias for assignment.

Advice: The move clears space on the roster for the return of Nori Aoki. Arias has been with the Giants since 2012 but was hitting just .207/.207/.276 this season. He'll clear waivers given his $1.45 million salary and should remain in the organization. Monday, 4:29 pm

  • Brock Holt (knee) expected back on Tuesday
Brock Holt (knee) is expected to return to the Red Sox' lineup on Tuesday.

Advice: Holt is sitting out Monday after having to leave Sunday's contest when he hyperextended his left knee. He's ultimately expected to be fine, though. Jemile Weeks is handling second base Monday. Monday, 1:40 pm

  • Chris Johnson not in Braves' lineup Mon.
Chris Johnson is not in the Braves' lineup Monday.

Advice: Freddie Freeman will start at first base and Adonis Garcia will start at third against Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman. Johnson is batting just .240/.277/.318. Monday, 12:51 pm
  • Brock Holt (knee) not in Red Sox lineup Mon.
Brock Holt (knee) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Monday night versus the White Sox.

Advice: Holt suffered a hyperextended left knee on Sunday night against the Tigers. It's thought to be a minor injury, but Jemile Weeks will fill in at second base for Boston in Monday's series opener against the Pale Hose. Monday, 12:16 pm

  • Pirates now likely to keep 1B Pedro Alvarez?
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Pirates are telling teams they're likely to keep Pedro Alvarez.

Advice: That could be a negotiating tactic, as CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported just days ago that the first baseman is on the trade block. Alvarez has a rough .232 batting average and .301 on-base percentage in 90 games this season, though he does lead the Pirates with 14 home runs. The 28-year-old will be arbitration-eligible one final time this winter. Monday, 10:22 am
  • Holt (knee) not expected to miss any time
Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Sunday's game that he doesn't expect Brock Holt (knee) to miss any time.

Advice: Holt was forced to leave Sunday's contest against the Tigers after hyperextending his left knee. It appears to be a minor issue though, so expect the All-Star to be in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the White Sox. Sunday, 9:21 pm

  • Brock Holt leaves with tightness in left knee
Brock Holt was removed from Sunday's game against the Tigers due to tightness in his left knee.

Advice: Holt landed awkwardly while rounding first base earlier in the ballgame and was likely lifted for precautionary reasons. Jemile Weeks replaced him at second base and could see increased action if Holt if forced to miss a day or two. Sunday, 7:01 pm

  • Forsythe hits back-to-back jacks in a loss
Logan Forsythe hit back-to-back solo homers with Evan Longoria, but the Rays were unable to overcome the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: Forsythe, who finished 2-for-3 with a walk, hit the latter of back-to-back jacks in the fourth inning off of Wei-Yin Chen. He's gone yard 11 times this season with 41 RBI while cobbling a productive .283/.369/.443 batting line. Forsythe entered play Sunday mashing lefties to the tune of a .949 OPS, so it was no surprise to see him victimize Chen. Sunday, 1:01 pm
  • Marc Krauss optioned to Triple-A
Tigers optioned 1B Marc Krauss to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Krauss has hit just .152/.152/.242 over 12 games since being claimed off waivers earlier this month. Kyle Ryan is taking his spot on the roster. Sunday, 12:26 pm

  • Duda homers twice in beatdown rout of LAD
Lucas Duda went 2-for-6 with a pair of solo home runs in Saturday's 15-2 demolition of the Dodgers.

Advice: The Mets racked up 21 hits in the big win. Duda might have only had two of those, but both left the ballpark. He did his damage against the Dodgers bullpen, launching a solo shot in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. The two dingers gave him 14 on the year. He's also driven in 40 runs and is slashing .238/.340/.430. All of these numbers are down from a breakout 2014 campaign, though Duda has had his moments this season. Saturday, 7:59 pm
  • Johnson hitless Friday vs. Cardinals
Chris Johnson went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Johnson hit cleanup against lefty Tim Cooney, which is more of a statement about the Braves' offense right now than anything else. The 30-year-old should get a lot more playing time at third base now that Juan Uribe is with the Mets, but there's not much to get excited about here from a fantasy perspective. He's batting just .244 with a .604 OPS on the year. Friday, 9:08 pm
  • Alvarez slugs two-run homer vs. Nats
Pedro Alvarez slugged a two-run homer against the Nationals on Friday.

Advice: The blast traveled an estimated 439 feet into the Allegheny River. Alvarez has now gone deep in back-to-back games. The Pirates are reportedly shopping him, but he leads the team with 14 home runs. Friday, 7:51 pm
  • Pirates put Pedro Alvarez on trade block
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Pirates have put Pedro Alvarez on the trade block.

Advice: It confirms an earlier report from Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the club was fielding offers for the first baseman. Alvarez's defense has been awful this season and he's batting just .232/.302/.424 with 13 homers. He'll also get more expensive over the winter in his final year of arbitration, and the Pirates have decided to try and upgrade at first base now. It's unclear at this point who might be interested in Alvarez. Friday, 12:36 pm
  • Jesus Aguilar recalled from Triple-A
Indians recalled 1B Jesus Aguilar from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Aguilar has batted .255/.318/.410 with 13 homers and 66 RBI at Columbus this season. He could see some at-bats versus left-handers. Friday, 11:54 am

  • Pedro Alvarez hits 13th homer
After sitting out two of the previous four games, Pedro Alvarez started Thursday and delivered a homer and an RBI groundout.

Advice: It wouldn't be notable that Alvarez sat out a couple of games, except these were both against right-handers. Between the mediocre offense and the worse-than-mediocre defense, the Pirates are looking to do better at first base, and they might consider playing Aramis Ramirez there after Josh Harrison returns. Thursday, 7:34 pm
  • Cervelli (arm) back in Bucs lineup Thursday
Francisco Cervelli (wrist) is back in the Pirates' starting lineup Thursday versus the Nationals.

Advice: Cervelli missed two games after taking a pitch off his right arm on Monday night. He is starting at catcher and batting seventh in Thursday's series opener at PNC Park. Thursday, 12:55 pm
  • Forsythe drills solo homer to tie game in 7th
Logan Forsythe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday afternoon's 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Forsythe took Phillies reliever Jake Diekman deep in the seventh inning to temporarily tie the game at 4-4. The solo shot was his 10th long ball of the season and pushed his RBI total to 40. Earlier in the contest, he also hit an RBI double. The infielder is working on a baby hitting streak, which he extended to six games thanks to Wednesday's effort. For the season he's slashing .283/.369/.438. He's already posted career highs for homers and RBI. Wednesday, 2:17 pm
  • Cervelli (wrist) out again Wednesday vs. KC
Francisco Cervelli (wrist) is out of the Pirates' starting lineup again on Wednesday night.

Advice: Cervelli had a knot on his arm Tuesday after getting hit by a pitch on Monday night. He should be fine in a day or two. Chris Stewart will start behind the plate as the Royals wrap up a big three-game series in Kansas City. Wednesday, 1:34 pm
  • Johnson drives in two as Braves top Dodgers
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Braves edged the Dodgers 4-3 on Tuesday.

Advice: Johnson finished with two singles and a double, his second three-hit game in his last six contests. Somewhat unbelievably, the two RBI matched his production from the previous 33 games. It's been that kind of year for Johnson, who is hitting .258/.297/.342 with a homer and nine RBI in 47 games overall. Tuesday, 7:53 pm
  • Cervelli (wrist) out of Pirates' lineup Tues.
Francisco Cervelli (wrist) is out of the Pirates' lineup on Tuesday night against the Royals.

Advice: Cervelli suffered some minor swelling in his right wrist Monday when he got hit by a pitch. He'll be available on Tuesday, but only in an emergency. Chris Stewart is starting at catcher for the Bucs at Kauffman Stadium. Tuesday, 2:44 pm
  • Francisco Cervelli leaves with sore wrist
Francisco Cervelli left Monday's game versus the Royals with right wrist discomfort.

Advice: Cervelli was hit by a pitch in the wrist and it eventually became too sore, forcing him from the game in the bottom of the seventh. It appears at this point that it's a day-to-day situation. Monday, 7:57 pm
  • Francisco Cervelli exits with apparent injury
Francisco Cervelli left Monday's game against the Royals with an apparent injury.

Advice: It's unclear what happened with Cervelli, but he was visited by the Pirates' trainer in the bottom of the seventh and then walked off the field. The club should have an update on him shortly. Monday, 7:43 pm
  • Lucas Duda sitting out on Monday
Lucas Duda is not in the Mets' lineup Monday.

Advice: He's getting a breather after Sunday's 18-inning marathon with the Cardinals. Eric Campbell is at first base in Duda's place. Monday, 1:40 pm
  • Pedro Alvarez not in Sunday's lineup
Pedro Alvarez is not in the Pirates' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Alvarez is down to .230/.298/.419 for the season and has struggled defensively, which has some thinking the Pirates could pursue a first baseman at the trade deadline. Travis Ishikawa is filling in for him on Sunday. Jul 19, 10:04 am
  • Marc Krauss activated from paternity list
Tigers activated 1B Marc Krauss from the paternity leave list.

Advice: He missed the first two games of the series against the Orioles but could be in the lineup against Miguel Gonzalez on Sunday. Krauss has two hits in 18 at-bats since joining the Tigers. Jul 19, 5:19 am

  • Marc Krauss to rejoin the Tigers on Sunday
Marc Krauss will rejoin the Tigers on Sunday.
