  • Joaquin Arias designated for assignment
Giants designated INF Joaquin Arias for assignment.

Advice: The move clears space on the roster for the return of Nori Aoki. Arias has been with the Giants since 2012 but was hitting just .207/.207/.276 this season. He'll clear waivers given his $1.45 million salary and should remain in the organization. Today, 4:29 pm

  • Red Sox acquire Josh Rutledge from Angels
Red Sox acquired INF Josh Rutledge from the Angels in exchange for OF Shane Victorino and cash.

Advice: Rutledge entered spring training as the favorite to start at second base, but he lost out on that spot and has been at Triple-A Salt Lake all season, hitting .274/.323/.403. He's merely a depth guy at this point. Today, 3:10 pm

Brock Holt (knee) is expected to return to the Red Sox' lineup on Tuesday.

  • Brock Holt (knee) not in Red Sox lineup Mon.
Brock Holt (knee) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Monday night versus the White Sox.

  • Royals' interest in Martin Prado is 'minimal''s Joe Frisaro is hearing that the Royals' interest in Martin Prado is "minimal."

Advice: FOX Sports' Jon Morosi connected the Royals and Prado on Sunday night, but the veteran infielder is apparently not high on Kansas City's priority list heading into the July 31 trade deadline. Or maybe this is all posturing. Prado, 31, is batting .273/.312/.369 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 73 games this season for Miami. Ben Zobrist has also been connected recently to the AL Central-leading Royals. Today, 8:22 am
  • Pads shopping second baseman Jedd Gyorko
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Padres are shopping Jedd Gyorko "hard."

Advice: Gyorko is batting just .212/.279/.333 in 652 plate appearances since the beginning of the 2014 season. That's right around the time he signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension with the Padres coming off a 2013 campaign in which he tallied 23 home runs and 63 RBI. The 26-year-old second baseman probably isn't going to draw much interest on his own, but maybe the Friars can throw him into a package with one of their more attractive trade chips. Today, 7:05 am
  • Asdrubal (hamstring) ready for rehab games
Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) is set to begin a rehab assignment Monday night with High-A Port Charlotte.

Advice: Cabrera, who's been out since July 12 with a strained right hamstring, will play between five and seven innings in his first rehab game. The expectation is that his rehab assignment will be a short one. "He's a veteran guy, so he gives us as good a sense as anybody as to when he thinks he's ready," manager Kevin Cash said Sunday. "But I know he's itching to get back." Today, 7:00 am

  • Holt (knee) not expected to miss any time
Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Sunday's game that he doesn't expect Brock Holt (knee) to miss any time.

Advice: Holt was forced to leave Sunday's contest against the Tigers after hyperextending his left knee. It appears to be a minor issue though, so expect the All-Star to be in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the White Sox. Yesterday, 9:21 pm

  • Brock Holt leaves with tightness in left knee
Brock Holt was removed from Sunday's game against the Tigers due to tightness in his left knee.

Advice: Holt landed awkwardly while rounding first base earlier in the ballgame and was likely lifted for precautionary reasons. Jemile Weeks replaced him at second base and could see increased action if Holt if forced to miss a day or two. Yesterday, 7:01 pm

  • Royals interested in acquiring Martin Prado
According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Royals have interest in acquiring Martin Prado from the Marlins.

Advice: Sources tell Morosi that the Marlins would have to include cash to help facilitate the deal. With the veteran's versatility, he would be a nice upgrade to the Royals offense. He's hitting .277/.316/.374 with four homers and 26 RBI in 72 games on the season. Yesterday, 6:48 pm
  • Red Sox purchase contract of Jemile Weeks
Red Sox purchased the contract of INF Jemile Weeks from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: He'll provide additional infield depth for the Red Sox while Dustin Pedroia is on the disabled list. The 28-year-old former top prospect is hitting just .207/.307/.310 with one homer and five RBI in 174 at-bats at Triple-A Pawtucket this season. Yesterday, 4:32 pm

  • Odor homers off Street in loss to Angels
Rougned Odor went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Angels.

Advice: Odor notched an RBI single in the third inning off Angels starter Andrew Heaney, then waited until the ninth to do further damage. At which point, he launched a two-run homer off Huston Street. The bomb was his eighth of the season and pushed his RBI total to 34. He's now homered in three of his last four games and is hitting .271/.339/.486. Since returning from a month-long stint in Triple-A after some early season troubles, he's been absolutely murdering the ball. Yesterday, 4:25 pm

  • Sanchez homers again, extends hitting streak
Carlos Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, helping the White Sox eke out a win against the Indians on Sunday.

Advice: Sanchez hit his first home run of the season on Saturday and kept it going on Sunday, taking Danny Salazar yard in the third inning to put the White Sox up 1-0. He's now on a nine-game hitting streak, a welcome sight for the Pale Hose, who have watched the 23-year-old struggle for most of the season. Sanchez is batting .221/.257/.307 with two home runs and 13 RBI. Yesterday, 1:20 pm
  • Forsythe hits back-to-back jacks in a loss
Logan Forsythe hit back-to-back solo homers with Evan Longoria, but the Rays were unable to overcome the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: Forsythe, who finished 2-for-3 with a walk, hit the latter of back-to-back jacks in the fourth inning off of Wei-Yin Chen. He's gone yard 11 times this season with 41 RBI while cobbling a productive .283/.369/.443 batting line. Forsythe entered play Sunday mashing lefties to the tune of a .949 OPS, so it was no surprise to see him victimize Chen. Yesterday, 1:01 pm

  • Emilio Bonifacio back from bereavement list

  • Rougned Odor homers as Rangers top Angels
Rougned Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the Rangers' 7-6 win over the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Odor opened the game's scoring with a solo shot off Angels starter Hector Santiago in the top of the first inning. He later doubled, drew a hit-by-pitch, and scored a run. The young second baseman has been on fire since returning in mid-June from a month-long stay at Triple-A. Saturday, 9:59 pm

  • Yankees DFA infielder Gregorio Petit
Yankees designated INF Gregorio Petit for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a 40-man roster spot for reliever Nick Goody, who joined the Yankees on Saturday. Petit, 30, is a .254/.282/.358 career hitter in 82 major league games. There's a pretty good chance he clears waivers. Saturday, 1:21 pm

Pirates designated INF/OF Steve Lombardozzi for assignment.

  • White Sox place Bonifacio on bereavement
White Sox placed UTIL Emilio Bonifacio on the bereavement list.

Advice: Bonifacio will get a couple days off following a death in the family. Leury Garcia was called up from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding 25-man roster move. Thursday, 10:35 am
  • Odor homers and scores four runs in slugfest
Rougned Odor went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, finishing a double shy of the cycle in Wednesday afternoon's 10-8 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Odor homered off of Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa in the second inning, then notched an RBI triple in the seventh. Sandwiched in-between those two hits, he also hit a single. No double would materialize out of the ether, but one of Odor's biggest contributions to the Rangers' win came when he drew a walk from John Axford to lead-off in the ninth inning with the game tied at 8-8 (classic Coors slugfest!). The Rangers would go on to score two runs in the frame and win by a score of 10-8. At just 21 years old, Odor's held his own against major league competition and is currently hitting .268/.336/.460 with six homers and 30 RBI over 198 at-bats. That line would look even better if he hadn't struggled out of the gate in April and May. He's been crushing the ball since being recalled from Triple-A in the middle of June and entered the game with a fantastic .328/.339/.609 triple-slash over 58 at-bats in July. Wednesday, 4:15 pm

  • Gyorko hits fifth home run in loss to Giants
Jedd Gyorko hit his fifth home run of the season Wednesday against the Giants.

Advice: Gyorko finished the game 1-for-4 with the solo homer. Power was supposed to be the second baseman's calling card, but it has dwindled quickly after he mashed 23 homers in his rookie season in 2013. Gyorko is batting just .222/.284/.350 through 63 games this year. Wednesday, 4:06 pm
  • Forsythe drills solo homer to tie game in 7th
Logan Forsythe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday afternoon's 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Forsythe took Phillies reliever Jake Diekman deep in the seventh inning to temporarily tie the game at 4-4. The solo shot was his 10th long ball of the season and pushed his RBI total to 40. Earlier in the contest, he also hit an RBI double. The infielder is working on a baby hitting streak, which he extended to six games thanks to Wednesday's effort. For the season he's slashing .283/.369/.438. He's already posted career highs for homers and RBI. Wednesday, 2:17 pm

  • Cabrera (hamstring) to resume activities
Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) will resume baseball activities early this week.

  • Odor shines again as Rangers beat Astros
Rougned Odor finished 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in Saturday's 7-6 defeat of the Astros.

Advice: Odor hit an infield single in the first inning, a two-run shot in the third inning, and a triple in the ninth inning. He also had a big night Friday, going 3-for-5. The 21-year-old second baseman has been on a tear since returning from Triple-A in mid-June and looks capable of keeping it going throughout the second half. Jul 18, 8:11 pm

  • Rougned Odor nets three hits in loss Friday
Rougned Odor had a nice night at the plate in Friday's loss to the Astros, going 3-for-5 with a triple.

Advice: All that he has done since returning from Triple-A is hammer the baseball, hitting .365 (31-for-85) with three homers, 15 RBI and four stolen bases in 24 games. The 21-year-old infielder looks like he has figured things out and is ready to succeed at the big league level. Jul 17, 8:30 pm

  • Prado (shoulder) hitless in return from DL
Martin Prado (shoulder) went 0-for-4 in his return from the disabled list Friday.

Advice: Prado, out since June 14 with a right shoulder sprain, is expected to play second base while Dee Gordon (thumb) is on the disabled list while the recently-signed Casey McGehee will play third. We'd rather see more of Derek Dietrich, but keeping second base-eligibility will be good for Prado's fantasy value as we look ahead to 2016. Jul 17, 6:38 pm
  • Brock Holt not in Red Sox starting lineup
Brock Holt is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Friday.

Advice: With Dustin Pedroia back, it appears as though Holt will return to his super-utility role. Mike Napoli is starting at first base on Friday, which could be a position that Holt sees plenty of time at in the second half. Jul 17, 4:04 pm
