  • Athletics pick up Danny Valencia off waivers
Athletics claimed INF/OF Danny VAlencia off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Advice: Valencia was designated for assignment by Toronto in a somewhat surprising move after the July 31 trade deadline. He's having a very good season and drew interest from a range of teams (including the White Sox, Rangers, and Orioles) on the waiver wire. The 30-year-old probably isn't going to carry a ton of fantasy value in Oakland. Rotoworld.com 26 minutes ago

  • Michael Morse starting at 1B on Monday
Michael Morse is batting seventh and starting at first base Monday in his Pirates debut.

Advice: Morse was acquired from the Dodgers in a July 31 deadline trade. He had been shipped from Miami to Los Angeles one day prior as part of a big 13-player, three-team swap. The 33-year-old first baseman has struggled mightily this season and probably won't suddenly take on significant fantasy value with Pittsburgh. Rotoworld.com 32 minutes ago

  • Sandoval (forearm) served as pinch-hitter
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) struck out as a pinch-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: Sandoval hasn't started a game since taking a pitch off his left forearm last Thursday evening. He just has a bruise and should be good to go this week. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:11 am
  • Cardinals outright Dan Johnson to Triple-A
Cardinals sent 1B Dan Johnson outright to Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: The veteran first baseman passed through waivers unclaimed and has opted to remain with the Cardinals as opposed to electing free agency. The 35-year-old is hitting .242/.350/.427 with 11 homers and 44 RBI at Triple-A this season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:22 pm

  • Duda continues home run barrage in victory
Lucas Duda continued his home run barrage on Sunday, blasting a two-run homer off Jordan Zimmermann in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Nationals.

Advice: With the victory, the Mets completed their sweep of the three-game weekend series against the Nationals and pulled even with their division rival for the top spot in the National League East. Duda has been on an absolute tear at the plate in recent days, blasting nine home runs and driving home 12 runs in his last eight ballgames. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .249/.348/.489 with 21 homers and 50 RBI on the season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:04 pm
  • ChiSox, Rangers, O's interested in Valencia
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the White Sox, Rangers and Orioles have emerged as the most likely destinations for Danny Valencia.

Advice: In a bit of a surprise move, Valencia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Saturday. He is expected to be claimed off trade waivers on Monday, which will give the Jays an opportunity to deal him. Valencia is having a terrific season, slashing .296/.331/.506 with seven long balls and 29 RBI in his 162 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 5:16 pm

  • Lamb doubles twice in losing effort
Jake Lamb went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Sunday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: Lamb doubled home a run against Astros starter Collin McHugh in the second inning. The Diamondbacks wouldn't score again in the game, though, as they fell by a score of 4-1. For the season, the Snakes' third baseman is hitting .279/.340/.425 with three homers and 24 RBI across 179 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:34 pm
  • Howard stays hot with another multi-hit game
Ryan Howard went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored as the Phillies lost 6-2 to the Braves on Sunday.

Advice: Howard doubled to lead off the second inning and later scored on Cody Asche's RBI single to give the Phillies an early 1-0 lead. The first baseman is on an eight-game hitting streak, the most recent three of which have included multiple hits. He has a .241/.292/.464 batting line on the year with 18 home runs and 60 RBI. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:29 pm
  • Peterson's 3-run homer downs the Phillies
Jace Peterson went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, striking the big blow to defeat the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: Peterson broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning when he belted an Adam Morgan offering to right field in the fifth inning. His effort helped the Braves avoid a four-game series sweep in Philadelphia. The second baseman isn't normally one for power, as he's batting .245/.322/.343 with 44 RBI and only four home runs. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:21 pm
  • Loney drives in two runs to help down Red Sox
James Loney went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI hits in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Loney doubled home a run off Red Sox starter Wade Miley in the fourth inning and later hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to help the Rays to a 4-3 win over their division rivals. The first baseman isn't hitting particularly well this season (.263/.313/.345 with three homers and 20 RBI) and holds little-to-no fantasy value. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:04 pm
  • Amarista socks homer to tie MIA in ninth
Alexi Amarista went 2-for-4 with a triple and a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Amarista's triple is notable for the fact that it was the only extra-base hit allowed by Marlins starter Jose Fernandez. After Fernandez left the game, the Padres looked dead in the water until the ninth inning, when Amarista struck like lightning, belting a two-run homer off reliever A.J. Ramos with one out to tie the proceedings at two-all. The big offensive showing is all the more surprising for the fact that Amarista was dealing with an 0-for-24 skid prior to his triple. He's batting just .201/.267/.293 with three home runs and 23 RBI this season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:32 pm

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is expected to begin a rehab assignment within the next 10 days.

  • Pablo Sandoval (forearm) out again Sunday
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He hasn't played since being hit on the left forearm by a pitch on Thursday. Sandoval remains day-to-day and should have a shot to return Tuesday after Monday's off day. Travis Shaw is at third base Sunday. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:06 am
  • Marcus Semien homers, walks against Indians
Marcus Semien homered, walked and scored twice against the Indians on Saturday.

Advice: Semien has more errors (29) than RBI (23) or walks (25) this year, yet he still has an OPS (.670) right at the league average for shortstops. It's about as weird of a bad season as one could dream up. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 10:52 pm

  • Lonnie Chisenhall homers for Indians
Lonnie Chisenhall homered for the Indians' only run Saturday against the A's.

Advice: Chisenhall is 4-for-11 in three games since returning to the majors Thursday. Since he's likely to keep on starting in the outfield against righties, he should be a nice AL-only option the rest of the way. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 10:48 pm
  • Duda homers twice, supplies go-ahead RBI
Lucas Duda had a huge impact on Saturday's 3-2 win over the Nationals, hitting a pair of solo home runs and a go-ahead RBI double.

Advice: The Mets brought Yoenis Cespedes over at the trade deadline to bolster a shoddy offense, but on Saturday, Duda did it all on his own. He launched a solo home run against Nationals starter Joe Ross in the fourth inning, then repeated the feat in the seventh. That second homer tied the game at 2-2. A frame later, he smacked an RBI double off Nationals reliever Matt Thornton to put the Mets up 3-2. This would stand as the final. Duda has produced multi-homer efforts in three of his last seven games to help boost his slash to .246/.347/.481 with 20 home runs and 48 RBI. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 7:27 pm
  • Howard rips three hits in Saturday's rout
Ryan Howard led the Phillies with three hits Saturday in a blowout win over the Braves.

Advice: Howard contributed an RBI single during the Phillies' four-run fourth inning. The former MVP is hitting a robust .313 since the All-Star break. He leads Philadelphia in home runs (18), RBI (60) and strikeouts (101) this season. Despite winning eight of their last nine, the Phillies remain 14 and a half games behind first-place Washington in the NL East. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 7:14 pm
  • Jake Lamb getting the day off Saturday
Jake Lamb is not in the Diamonbacks' starting lineup Saturday against the Astros.

Advice: It's a routine day off for Lamb. Aaron Hill will grab the start at third base. Lamb has hit .248 since coming off the disabled list in early June. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 2:04 pm
  • Jays designate Danny Valencia for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF/OF Danny Valencia for assignment.

Advice: With all of the recent acquisitions that the Blue Jays have made, they were forced to make a few tough decisions on their roster and it appears that Valencia is the odd-man out. The lefty-masher was hitting .296/.331/.506 overall with seven homers and 29 RBI in 162 at-bats. He should attract interest from plenty of teams looking to upgrade their bench. • Lonnie Chisenhall goes 3-for-4, doubles
Lonnie Chisenhall went 3-for-4 with a double and a steal as the Indians' right fielder on Friday.

Advice: Chisenhall will get a chance to take some of David Murphy's at-bats, though how much playing he receives will hinge on what happens with Nick Swisher following his return. Ideally, Chisenhall would be in there pretty regularly against right-handers the rest of the way before the Indians have to decide whether to tend him a contract for 2016. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 12:05 am
  • Escobar has RBI single in loss to Mets
Yunel Escobar drove in the Nationals' only run of the night Friday against the Mets.

Advice: His eighth-inning single off Matt Harvey tied the game, but the Mets eventually won in extras. Escobar went 1-for-5 on the night and has a .312/.360/.410 batting line on the year. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:02 pm

  • Pirates acquire Michael Morse for Jose Tabata
Pirates acquired 1B/OF Michael Morse from the Dodgers in exchange for OF Jose Tabata.

Advice: Morse was designated for assignment after the Dodgers picked him up in the three-team deal with the Marlins and Braves. He's hit only .214/.277/.314 in 173 plate appearances this season but offers the Pirates an option at first base against left-handed pitching. Rotoworld.com Friday, 1:23 pm

  • Pablo Sandoval (forearm) not in lineup
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Advice: Sandoval was hit on the left forearm by a pitch on Thursday. He merely has a bruise and should be fine in a day or two. Josh Rutledge is filling in at third base. Rotoworld.com Friday, 12:22 pm
  • Sandoval diagnosed with forearm contusion
Pablo Sandoval is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left forearm contusion.

Advice: Sandoval was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch. It appears as though he didn't sustain any structural damage though and should be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 6:53 pm
  • Pablo Sandoval leaves after hit by pitch
Pablo Sandoval was removed from Thursday's game against the White Sox after being hit in the wrist/forearm area by a Chris Sale pitch.

Advice: Sandoval actually struck out swinging at the pitch, literally adding insult to injury. He'll presumably head for X-rays to rule out any fractures. The Red Sox should have an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 6:17 pm
  • Dodgers designate Morse for assignment
Dodgers designated 1B Michael Morse for assignment.

Advice: Morse was acquired on Thursday as part of the massive 13-player, three-team trade with the Marlins and Braves, but it's clear that he was just a salary dump. The 33-year-old is unlikely to attract much interest on waivers. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 4:34 pm

  • Indians recall Lonnie Chisenhall from AAA
Indians recalled INF Lonnie Chisenhall from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: With Brandon Moss shipped out of town, Chisenhall could see some action in the corner outfield, where he had been working in the minors. Unless he finds everyday at-bats though, his fantasy value is limited to AL-only formats. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 4:00 pm
  • Dodgers acquire Michael Morse from Marlins
Dodgers acquired 1B Michael Morse from the Marlins in the 13-player, three-team Mat Latos trade.

Advice: Morse doesn't fit all that well on the Dodgers' current roster and it seems possible that they might turn around and designate him for assignment to clear room for some of the other players they acquired in this massive swap. Morse, 33, was batting just .214/.277/.314 in 173 plate appearances this season for Miami. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:34 pm

  • Cardinals DFA 35-year-old Dan Johnson
Cardinals designated 1B Dan Johnson for assignment.

  • Farrell admits Sandoval's weight is an issue
Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged Wednesday that Pablo Sandoval's weight is an issue.

Advice: It's the first time Farrell has addressed this topic since spring training, when he was in full support of Boston's new acquisition. The burly third baseman got thrown out at home on a ball he should have scored on Wednesday night against the White Sox and had to be lifted from the game two innings later due to dehydration. "There are ongoing efforts to support that, to try to get him in the best shape possible," said Farrell. "That's something Pablo has dealt with his entire career. It continues to be addressed." Rotoworld.com Thursday, 5:37 am
  • Lucas Duda hits three homers in losing cause
Lucas Duda hit three homers to plate all three Mets runs Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: Oddly enough, the last player to have three homers to account for all of a team's runs was Duda's old competitor, Ike Davis, on July 8, 2012. The Mets lost that one to the Diamondbacks 6-3. Tonight, they lost 7-3. Duda has six homers in his last four games after hitting three in his previous 46 games. Hopefully, he can stay hot like he did in April. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:32 pm
  • Dodgers/Marlins deal could involve third team
Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that there is a third team involved in the trade sending Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Dodgers.

Advice: Bowden says the deal will be "bigger than expected." There's a good chance it means Morse will be flipped to another team, as the Dodgers have little use for him. We should know more details later Wednesday. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 12:43 pm

  • Sandoval hits eighth homer against White Sox
Pablo Sandoval went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Sandoval's two-run blast against White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija in the second inning was all the offense the Red Sox could muster until the ninth inning. The two-hit game was Sandoval's third in a row, raising his line to .263/.307/.382 with eight homers and 34 RBI. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:31 pm
  • Duda homers as Mets shut out the Padres
Lucas Duda went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, helping the Mets to a win on Tuesday against the Padres.

Advice: Duda staked the Mets to an early 2-0 lead when he drilled a James Shields offering over the fence in center field. Given how masterful Noah Syndergaard was on the mound, it was the only offense the Mets would need. Duda has three home runs in his last three games, giving him 15 on the season with 42 RBI and a .236/.338/.433 batting line. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:45 pm
  • Lamb triples in run to help down Brewers
Jake Lamb went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

Advice: Lamb hit his triple off Brewers starter Matt Garza in the fourth inning. It was his fourth of the season. He also notched a double off Garza, his seventh. Lamb's hitting a decent .277/.335/.409 with two homers and 20 RBI over 159 at-bats. He missed several months with a foot injury, but has shown his versatility when healthy. Rotoworld.com Jul 26, 5:14 pm
  • Duda homers twice in beatdown rout of LAD
Lucas Duda went 2-for-6 with a pair of solo home runs in Saturday's 15-2 demolition of the Dodgers.

Advice: The Mets racked up 21 hits in the big win. Duda might have only had two of those, but both left the ballpark. He did his damage against the Dodgers bullpen, launching a solo shot in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. The two dingers gave him 14 on the year. He's also driven in 40 runs and is slashing .238/.340/.430. All of these numbers are down from a breakout 2014 campaign, though Duda has had his moments this season. Rotoworld.com Jul 25, 7:59 pm
  • Ryan Howard slugs 17th home run of 2015
Ryan Howard slugged a three-run homer Saturday in the Phillies' defeat of the Cubs.

Advice: Howard went deep to left-center off Cubs starter Jake Arrieta after an Odubel Herrera two-out double and a Maikel Franco two-out walk. The veteran first baseman has tallied 17 home runs and 51 RBI in 89 games this season despite a .223 batting average and .269 OBP. Rotoworld.com Jul 25, 4:03 pm

  • Giants could bring back Michael Morse
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that Michael Morse "might just be dealt" to the Giants.

Advice: Morse, of course, had a nice season for the Giants last year. However, he's hit only .206/.268/.310 during an injury-shortened 2015 campaign and is owed $8 million next season. Plus, the Giants don't really have a need for him other than a bat off the bench. It's hard to see a fit unless the Marlins pay down the bulk of what remains on his contract.
