  • A's still see Semien as their shortstop
Athletics general manager David Forst indicated Wednesday that he still sees Marcus Semien as their starting shortstop.

Advice: With Jed Lowrie back in Oakland, it's only natural that Forst would be asked about Semien, who led the majors with 35 errors this past season. However, it appears that they didn't acquire Lowrie with shortstop in mind. It's possible he could play second base or third. Wednesday, 10:51 am

  • Athletics reunited with Jed Lowrie in trade
Athletics acquired INF Jed Lowrie from the Astros for RHP Brendan McCurry.

Advice: Lowrie signed a three-year contract with the Astros last winter, but he's headed back to Oakland after just one season. The 31-year-old got off to a great start in 2015 before suffering a thumb injury in late April and just couldn't get back on track with the bat after returning during the second half. It's unclear what the Athletics have in mind for him, but he's likely to receive regular playing time in 2016. Wednesday, 8:51 am

  • Report: A's acquire Jed Lowrie from Astros
Jane Lee of reports that the Athletics have acquired Jed Lowrie from the Astros.

Advice: No word yet on who is headed back to Houston. Lowrie, who previously played with the Athletics from 2013-2014, batted .222 with nine home runs and a .712 OPS in 69 games this past season. He's owed $7.5 million in 2016 and $6.5 million in 2017 while his contract includes a $6 million club option or $1 million buyout for 2018. He's yet another moving part for Oakland's infield. • Hak-Ju Lee catches on with Giants
Giants signed INF Hak-Ju Lee to a minor league contract.

Advice: A former top prospect, Lee has just never progressed with the bat in the upper minors, hitting only .220/.303/.304 this past season at Triple-A. He just turned 25 earlier this month, though, so he's worth a shot on a minor league deal. Monday, 2:01 pm

  • Brewers add Orlando Arcia to 40-man roster
Brewers purchased the contract of SS Orlando Arcia from Double-A Biloxi.

Advice: No surprise here, as Arcia's one of the Brewers' top prospects and they're protecting him from the Rule 5 draft. He spent the whole of his 2015 campaign playing for Double-A Biloxi, where he hit .307/.347/.453 with eight homers, 69 RBI and 25 steals across 512 at-bats. GM David Stearns has already indicated that the 21-year-old shortstop will begin the 2016 season at Triple-A. Friday, 11:15 am
  • Mariners trade Flores for Luis Sardinas
Mariners acquired 2B Luis Sardinas from the Brewers for OF Ramon Flores.

Advice: Sardinas, 22, has the bat of a utility infielder. In 97 at-bats with the Brewers in 2015, he hit a paltry .196/.240/.216. He initially came to the Brew Crew as part of the Yovani Gallardo trade to the Rangers in January. The Brewers have been shedding pieces throughout the week. Veteran first baseman Adam Lind's still with the team, but his name's surfaced in rumors as well. Friday, 10:21 am

  • Brewers reportedly trade Sardinas to Mariners
Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that according to a source, the Brewers have traded Luis Sardinas to the Mariners.

Advice: No word as of yet as to who the Brewers would be receiving in return for Sardinas. The 22-year-old second baseman appeared in 36 games (97 at-bats) with the big league club in 2015. He struggled to hit in that space, slashing just .196/.240/.216 with a triple and four RBI. The Brewers originally acquired Sardinas as part of their trade of Yovani Gallardo to the Rangers in January. Friday, 9:52 am

  • GM Daniels indicates Profar doing well
Rangers GM Jon Daniels said that Jurickson Profar "doesn't have any concerns about the shoulder."

Advice: Daniels was interviewed on the Ben and Skin Show on KRLD-FM 105.3. The Rangers GM touched on Jurickson Profar's rehab, as the 22-year-old shortstop was sidelined in February due to a torn labrum in his shoulder. Profar underwent surgery, but did not play in 2015. "All signs are positive right now," said Daniels. "His throwing program's great, he's absolutely killing it with the bat in the Fall League." Daniels went on to add that while the Rangers are being understandably cautious, Profar "feels 100%." Assuming no setbacks this offseason, the former No. 1 prospect should be ready for spring training in 2016. Friday, 5:49 am

  • Brewers acquire Jonathan Villar from Houston
Brewers acquired INF Jonathan Villar from the Astros for RHP Cy Sneed.

Advice: Villar posted a decent .284/.339/.414 batting line with two homers and seven stolen bases in 53 games this past season for Houston. He carries some fantasy value as a base-stealer when he is getting regular playing time, and Milwaukee is a better place than Houston for him to find that. The versatile 24-year-old is looking like an attractive early fantasy sleeper for 2016. Thursday, 12:30 pm

  • Mets might decide to non-tender SS Tejada
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets might non-tender Ruben Tejada.

Advice: Salary appears to be the main issue, as Tejada could make north of $3 million via arbitration this winter. In 360 regular season at-bats with the Mets in 2015, he hit .261/.338/.350. The 26-year-old shortstop infamously suffered a broken right leg on a late Chase Utley slide into second base during Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. Wednesday, 6:06 pm
