    • Angel Pagan hit a walkoff two-run inside-the-park homer in the 10th inning Saturday as the Giants marched back to defeat the Rockies by a score of 6-5.
Advice: The Giants trailed at two different points in the game but kept plugging away and finally broke through when Pagan launched a towering shot to "Triples Alley" at AT&T Park with one out in the bottom of the 10th. The ball bounced high off the wall and into center field, allowing Pagan to travel all the way around the diamond. It was a wild finish.

    • Angel Pagan went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Monday's 8-0 victory against the Nationals.
Advice: Pagan left Sunday's game with flu-like symptoms and was a game-time decision against Washington. He showed no ill-effects on the field, smacking an RBI double in the fifth against reliever Craig Stammen and adding a two-run single off Henry Rodriguez in the seventh. Despite the nice effort, Pagan is batting just .218/.279/.400 in May.

    • Yankees recalled OF Brennan Boesch from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Advice: Boesch will replace Curtis Granderson on the active roster. He batted just .209 with a .244 on-base percentage through 20 games with the Yankees prior to being sent down earlier this month.

    • Rubby De La Rosa (intercostal) has resumed a throwing program.
Advice: De La Rosa was scratched from his start Tuesday with an intercostal strain but is expected to make a quick return to the Triple-A Pawtucket rotation. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio over eight starts (25 innings) this season.

    • Red Sox prospect right-hander Rubby De La Rosa was scratched from Tuesday's start with Triple-A Pawtucket for precautionary reasons after he tweaked a muscle in his side.
Advice: It's evidently not a major concern, but the Red Sox didn't want to risk him making things worse. De La Rosa has a 3.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings across eight starts this season in Triple-A and should make an impact with the big club before long.

    • Jeff Locke threw six scoreless innings to pick up his fifth win of the season Saturday as the Pirates beat the Brewers.
Advice: It was Locke's second-consecutive scoreless start, and his season ERA is now down to 2.45 through 10 total outings this season. The left-hander yielded just three hits and three walks while striking out seven. He hasn't taken a loss since his first start of the year on April 7. He'll take the mound again Thursday against the Tigers.

    • Jordan Walden (shoulder) threw a bullpen session at Citi Field on Friday.
Advice: If Walden can avoid setbacks, he should be cleared for a rehab assignment and rejoin the Braves at some point next week. With Eric O'Flaherty out for the season, Walden is likely to return in a setup role with Luis Avilan.

    • Jordan Walden (shoulder) will not be ready to be activated from the disabled list next Monday.
Advice: That's the first day he's eligible to return, but the right-hander is not quite far along enough. Walden will throw a bullpen session later this week and then head out on a short minor league rehab assignment. He should be ready for activation just before the end of May.

    • Jordan Walden said his right shoulder felt "pretty good" after he played catch on Monday.
Advice: It's the first time he's played catch since landing on the disabled list. Walden is shooting to return next Monday when first eligible, but we won't know if that's a realistic goal until he throws from a mound. "That's what we're shooting for, but it's got to be feeling good," Walden said. ".I just need to make sure I'm fully healthy when I come back because we already have great guys down there still. I just want to be part of it down there. I want to be able to help out Craig (Kimbrel) a little bit."

    • Mike Fiers allowed four runs -- including three homers -- in four innings Saturday in a loss to the Pirates.
Advice: It was only Fiers' second start of the year and his first since April 6. And he looked out of place. Fiers allowed homers to Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez and Neil Walker in his four innings, and the right-hander now has a 6.62 ERA on the year. He is not fantasy-relevant.

    • Lyle Overbay cranked a go-ahead homer in the top of the 11th inning to lead the Yankees past the Rays by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night at Tropicana Field.
Advice: Overbay also scored a crucial run in the top of the ninth inning that helped extend the game to extras. His solo shot in the 11th then put the Yankees ahead for good. Overbay, 36, has eight home runs and 28 RBI in 46 games this season. He has been a nice surprise.

    • Cameron Maybin (wrist) went 1-for-3 with a single in his first rehab game Friday with Triple-A Tucson.
Advice: Maybin is expected to need around 30 rehab at-bats, so he's on track to return sometime next week. The 26-year-old outfielder has been out since April 15 with a right wrist impingement.

    • Cameron Maybin (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson on Friday.

    • Freddy Garcia yielded three runs (two earned) in five innings Saturday in a win over the Blue Jays.
Advice: All in all, not bad considering how the Blue Jays have been swinging the bats recently. Garcia scattered nine hits while striking out one batter and walking none. The veteran right-hander has a 4.61 ERA and 9/6 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings across his first five starts with Baltimore. While he shouldn't be an option in most fantasy leagues, he's doing fine as a stopgap option in the starting rotation.

    • Freddy Garcia yielded two runs and three hits in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Yankees.
Advice: Garcia was in line for the win until Troy Patton and Jim Johnson gave up runs. Both runs Garcia allowed came on solo homers. He's now allowed six homers in four starts for the Orioles, which is why he's such a bad risk in AL-only leagues.

    • Jered Weaver (elbow) is expected to start Wednesday against the Dodgers.

    • Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Jered Weaver (elbow) will rejoin the rotation next week as long as his between-starts bullpen session goes well.
Advice: Weaver didn't make any minor league rehab starts, but he pitched a few times in extended spring training, including on Wednesday when he struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He seems likely to start either next Monday or Tuesday against the Dodgers, putting him in line for a two-start week.

    • Jered Weaver (elbow) threw 5 2/3 innings Wednesday afternoon in a start at extended spring training.
Advice: Weaver allowed just one run and did not walk a batter while striking out nine. He threw 75 pitches, 62 of which were strikes. The right-hander is likely to rejoin the Angels' starting rotation early next week after missing the past month-plus with a fractured left elbow.

    • Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it's possible Jered Weaver (elbow) could be activated after his appearance at extended spring training on Wednesday.
Advice: That would put him in line to rejoin the rotation early next week, which would be a little earlier than expected. Weaver is coming back from a fractured left (non-throwing) elbow and appears to be fully healed, so it's all about getting his stamina up at this point. The Los Angeles Times' Bill Shaikin speculates that he could replace Joe Blanton in the rotation.

    • Jered Weaver (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in a game at extended spring training on Wednesday.
Advice: Weaver was hoping to embark on a minor league rehab assignment, but the Angels want him to throw one more time in a controlled environment at their spring training complex in Arizona. He is still on track to return to the Anaheim rotation at some point in early June.

    • R.A. Dickey was tagged for five runs over 6 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Orioles.
Advice: Another clunker for Dickey, who entered Saturday's start with three straight outings of two earned runs allowed. The knuckleballer gave up nine hits (including two homers) and three walks in the loss. He now has a disappointing 4.85 ERA for the year and has walked 31 batters in 68 2/3 innings. He didn't issue his 31st walk last season until July 29.

  • Mon, May 20
    • R.A. Dickey yielded three runs (two earned) in eight innings Monday in a 7-5 win over the Rays.
Advice: It was his longest outing of the season. Dickey limited the Rays to just four hits, but he issued four walks. Still, he was able to limit the damage. The knuckleballer has allowed two earned runs in each of his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 5.36 to 4.50 for the year. It doesn't appear that Dickey will match the dominance he displayed last year, but he has righted the ship somewhat.

    • Jeff Baker went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Mariners.
Advice: Baker is only playing against left-handers, so manager Ron Washington made the switch back to David Murphy when the Mariners brought in a righty. Baker has been terrific at his job so far, hitting .354 with five homers in 48 at-bats. Still, his fantasy value is quite limited while he plays on average twice a week.

    • Justin Grimm won after allowing three runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings versus the Mariners on Friday.
Advice: With some help from Jeff Nelson. Grimm intercepted an attempted 3-6-3 double-play relay in the second inning tonight while first baseman Mitch Moreland was still reaching for the ball. Nelson never realized that the pitcher, not the first baseman, caught the ball and gave the Rangers the out. It proved to be an especially big play when Brendan Ryan followed with a rare double. Were the call gotten right, it doesn't seem nearly so likely that Grimm would have pitched into the seventh inning tonight.
