    • Josh Reddick (wrist) has been taking some dry swings but is not ready to take batting practice yet.
Advice: Reddick is eligible to return from the disabled list on Wednesday, but that's not going to happen. It's possible the outfielder might eventually require surgery, but that point hasn't been reached yet. A timetable for his return remains up in the air.

    • Dodgers activated 2B Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list.
Advice: Ellis had been scheduled to remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend, but the Dodgers decided to bring him back early since Luis Cruz (elbow) is banged up. The second baseman is hitting second on Sunday afternoon against the Braves' Mike Minor.

    • Mark Ellis was removed early from Friday's rehab game as a precautionary measure due to poor field conditions.
Advice: Ellis was supposed to play four innings and receive two at bats, but a rainy night at Double-A Chattanooga forced him out after only three innings and one at-bat. It's certainly encouraging news to hear that it wasn't an injury related setback that caused the early exit.

    • Mark Ellis (quad) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Chattanooga on Friday.
Advice: Ellis tested out his quad by running before Tuesday's game, and it evidently went well. He should be back sometime next week as long as he can avoid a setback.

    • Michael Brantley had an RBI single and a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
Advice: The longball came in the second inning off of Felix Hernandez. It's just the second homer of the season for Brantley, who was hitting third in the batting order. The outfielder has now driven in 19 while hitting .301 as he quietly puts together a nice season.

    • Dodgers optioned C Tim Federowicz to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Advice: Federowicz has been up and down with the big club multiple times this season and has batted just .176/.222/.176 over 10 games. He'll probably get another shot later this year.

    • Buster Posey is not in the Giants' lineup Sunday.
Advice: As he often does, Posey is getting a breather with Barry Zito on the mound. Guillermo Quiroz is getting the start behind the plate. Marco Scutaro is also receiving a day off, as Nick Noonan is at second base.

    • Buster Posey will serve as the designated hitter Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Advice: This will enable Posey to get a bit of a break from behind the plate. Guillermo Quiroz will catch the struggling Ryan Vogelsong.

    • David Ross (concussion) has reported improvement and could begin working out soon.

    • David Ross is still experiencing concussion symptoms and is likely to be re-examined Monday in Boston.
Advice: Ross was placed on the 7-day disabled list last Sunday and will not be ready to return when he's first eligible. Ryan Lavarnway will continue to serve as Jarrod Saltalamacchia's backup for now.

    • Red Sox manager John Farrell said David Ross (concussion) will be re-examined "over the next couple of days."
Advice: Ross is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday, but the Sox will just wait to see how he recovers. "We're still taking this very much day to day," Farrell said. "He'll get reexamined in Boston over the next couple of days before rejoining us in Minnesota. There's no template on these, when the symptoms start to progress. Yesterday was a tougher day for him with some of those symptoms, so we've got to work off him in this. He'll be fully evaluated in Boston. Where we go from there will be dependent upon the diagnosis and the recommendations of the doctors there."

    • Julio Borbon has stolen three bases since he joined the Cubs last month.
Advice: Borbon hasn't been playing enough to warrant an update over the past month (he's logged more than two at-bats in a game just twice since the Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Rangers on April 19). If he can secure some playing time over the summer, Borbon will be useful in NL-only formats in the batting average and steals departments. Chicago has displayed no willingness to exercise their atrophying 27-year-old outfielder, however.

    • Rangers recalled INF Jurickson Profar from Triple-A Round Rock.
Advice: Profar will see regular starts at second base while Ian Kinsler (intercostal) is on the disabled list. Baseball's top prospect was batting .278/.370/.438 with four homers and six steals in 37 games at the Triple-A level and is worth an add in fantasy leagues based purely on talent and ceiling. But he won't have a guaranteed role when Kinsler returns.

    • Luis Cruz is nursing a sore throwing elbow.
Advice: He could be placed on the disabled list, as Mark Ellis (quad) is ready to be activated. Cruz is hitting a pathetic .096/.118/.096 this season and has seen his playing time dwindle of late.

    • Chris Getz hasn't collected a hit since May 4.
Advice: He hasn't played since May 13 and owns an ugly .170 OPS in 18 plate appearances this month. Getz has never been much of a hitter, but his .193/.221/.301 slash line in 2013 resets the bar to a new low. Kansas City is making due with Elliot Johnson and Miguel Tejada at second, which tells you all you need to know about their opinion of Getz. With additional help on the way from the farm, Getz may have just squandered his last opportunity to seize a starting major league gig.

    • Joe Mahoney (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter this week.
Advice: Mahoney has been out since late April with a right hamstring strain. With Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) also due back soon, Mahoney might be sent to Triple-A once healthy.

    • Brian Roberts (knee) will have the sutures removed from his right leg on Monday.
Advice: They were supposed to be removed on Friday, but Roberts wasn't sufficiently healed at that time. The second baseman is coming back from surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in the back of his right knee and will be out for at least the next six weeks or so.

    • Orioles transferred 2B Brian Roberts from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Advice: It's just a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Roberts underwent surgery last Thursday to repair a ruptured tendon in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for at least the next six weeks.

    • Everth Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Saturday's win against the Nationals.
Advice: Cabrera has now stolen a base in four consecutive games, bumping him to the National League leader with 15. The shortstop will never post a good batting average, but he's getting on base more and running as effectively as ever. The 26-year-old shortstop batted .246/.324/.324 with a league-leading 44 stolen bases last season and is a decent bet to improve upon all numbers in 2013.

    • Everth Cabrera went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI in Thursday's defeat at the hands of Washington.
Advice: Cabrera's 13 steals rank second in the National League. A better real-life than fantasy player, Cabrera's value comes in the form of his legs (steals and runs) and eyes (walks). He looks poised to have a career year.

    • Adam Dunn (back) is back in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.
Advice: Dunn left Saturday's game with back spasms, but he's feeling a lot better a day later. The veteran is batting .421/.450/1.158 with four homers and 10 RBI over his last five games.

    • Adam Dunn left Saturday's game against the Angels due to back spasms.
Advice: Jeff Keppinger hit for the first baseman in the fifth inning. Spasms are generally a day-to-day thing, so we'll have to see how Dunn is feeling Sunday before knowing if he'll have to miss some games. It's unfortunate timing, too, as Dunn has been heating up at the plate.

  • Wed, May 15
    • Adam Dunn homered twice, doubled and knocked in five runs to lead the White Sox to a 9-4 win over the Twins on Wednesday.
Advice: Dunn is terribly sad to see the series against the Twins come to an end. He hit three homers in the three games, and he could have had a fourth if Aaron Hicks hadn't gone over the fence to rob him on Monday. Hopefully for the White Sox, he'll stay hot in a four-game series in Anaheim this weekend. It doesn't seem all that likely, though; he's hit .228 with just two homers in 92 at-bats against Angels pitching in his career.

    • Michael Morse went 0-for-4 at the plate in his return to action Saturday.

    • Michael Morse went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk in the Mariners' 3-2 victory over the Yankees on Thursday.
Advice: Morse has found his stroke again, going 9-for-15 with three extra-base hits and three walks in his last four games. His average was down to .220, but he's suddenly back up to .261 now.
