• Jared Walsh makes Rangers’ season-opening roster
Jared Walsh has made the Rangers’ Opening Day roster.

Advice: Walsh will be officially added to Texas’ active roster prior to Thursday’s season-opener. It’s a really nice redemption story for the 30-year-old first baseman after a lost season last year with the Angels. He’s unlikely to make an impact for fantasy managers, but he’ll help fill the void created by Nathaniel Lowe’s absence to open the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:32 pm

  • Rays recall Austin Shenton from Triple-A
Rays recalled INF Austin Shenton from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Shenton winds up making Tampa Bay’s season-opening roster with both Jonathan Aranda (finger) and Taylor Walls (hip) starting the year on the shelf. The 26-year-old figures to occupy a bench spot for the Rays initially and is unlikely to make an impact for fantasy managers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:05 pm

  • Rays place Jonathan Aranda (finger) on 10-day IL
Rays placed INF Jonathan Aranda on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with a broken right ring finger.

Advice: Aranda is expected to be sidelined until late April or early May after suffering a broken right ring finger last week while fielding a ground ball. The 25-year-old corner infielder has nothing left to prove in the upper minors and figures to play a prominent role this season for the Rays when he returns. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:04 pm

  • Officially placed on injured list
The Rays placed Aranda (finger) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Aranda is expected to be out until at least early May after having surgery March 21 to insert a pin in his fractured right ring finger. The 25-year-old had been slated to open the season as Tampa Bay's primary designated hitter against right-handed pitching, and he should eventually reclaim that role once healthy. • Outrighted to Triple-A
The Cardinals outrighted Young to Triple-A Memphis after he cleared waivers, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Cardinals needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Victor Scott. Young will remain in the organization and should see semi-regular playing time in the corner infield and outfield spots at Memphis. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:33 pm

  • Cardinals outright Jared Young to Triple-A
Cardinals sent 1B/OF Jared Young outright to Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: The procedural move opens up a spot on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster for Victor Scott II. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:16 pm

  • Makes Opening Day roster
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that Shenton has made the Rays' Opening Day roster, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports.

Advice: Shenton was optioned to minor-league camp earlier this month, but injuries to other players created another opportunity and he wound up making the team. The 26-year-old can handle the corner-infield and corner-outfield spots and could also be an option at designated hitter while Jonathan Aranda (finger) opens the season on the injured list. Shenton will be making his major-league debut whenever he gets into a game. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:35 am

  • Set to be No. 3 hitter
Freeman batted third in the order for both Seoul Series games against the Padres as well as throughout the Cactus League slate, contradicting a comment by manager Dave Roberts early in camp that the first baseman would remain the Dodgers' No. 2 hitter despite the offseason signing of Shohei Ohtani.

Advice: Freeman batted second in each of the 161 games he played in last season, but it appears he'll move down a slot with Ohtani now in the fold. The veteran first baseman should get plenty of run-producing opportunities with Mookie Betts and Ohtani hitting ahead of him, and he'll also remain protected with the solid bat of catcher Will Smith behind him for most games. Freeman slashed .282/.333/.667 along with four homers and a team-leading 16 RBI over 42 plate appearances in spring action and went 1-for-6 with four walks in the Seoul Series versus San Diego. • Miguel Sanó hits fourth Cactus League homer
Miguel Sanó went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Angels’ 4-3 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: After missing all of the 2023 season, Sanó has already earned a spot on the Angels’ Opening Day roster. The right-handed slugger slashed just .203/.295/.739, but powered four homers over the fence while adding 11 RBI this spring. We wouldn’t expect Sanó to earn consistent enough playing time to be a viable fantasy option, but he’ll provide the Angels with some added power whenever he finds his way into the lineup.
