    • Takes third loss
Gausman (0-3) took the loss Tuesday versus the Royals after giving up three runs (all unearned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out two batters across 6.2 innings.

Advice: A strong start for Gausman fell apart in the fifth frame after a catching error by Vladimir Guerrero extended the inning, allowing the Royals to drive in all three of their runs. Although Gausman was tagged with the loss, there were plenty of positives to take away from his outing Tuesday, as it marked his longest start of the season. The 33-year-old righty has also now given up just one earned run in 11.2 innings across his last two appearances, giving him a decent amount of momentum heading into his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Dodgers. • Ryan Mountcastle singles as pinch-hitter
Ryan Mountcastle came off the bench on Tuesday and singled as a pinch-hitter against the Angels.

Advice: Mountcastle was out of the starting lineup for a second straight day due to knee soreness. That he felt well enough to stay in and play first base after batting tonight bodes well for Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:42 pm
    • Logan Webb shuts out Mets for eight in win
Logan Webb scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings Tuesday in the Giants’ 5-1 takedown of the Mets.

Advice: Webb was a groundball machine while allowing four singles and two doubles tonight. He walked one and struck out four. That the Giants have Nick Ahmed at short and Matt Chapman at third is definitely paying dividends this season, particularly when the team’s ace is on the mound. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:02 pm

    • Goes yard in blowout loss
Contreras went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 14-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Contreras provided a positive start for the Cardinals with his first-inning blast, but it quickly went off the rails for the home team after that. The catcher saw his 11-game hitting streak end Monday, but he's still been one of the Cardinals' most consistent bats so far. He's slashing .292/.418/.523 with three homers, eight RBI, 10 runs scored, six doubles and a stolen base over 19 contests. Manager Oliver Marmol has committed to getting both Contreras and Ivan Herrera regular at-bats, so they have often shared catcher and designated hitter in recent weeks. • Marmol: Willson Contreras ‘fine’ after early exit
Willson Contreras was lifted from Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks for precautionary reasons due to left hand discomfort.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters following Tuesday’s lopsided defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks that Contreras is fine and that the club merely didn’t want to take any chances in a one-sided contest after he felt some discomfort in his bruised left hand. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:38 pm
    • Gausman allows zero earned runs in loss to Royals
Kevin Gausman struck out two batters over 6 2/3 innings in the Blue Jays’ 3-2 loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

Advice: Gausman was solid through six innings but was burnt by a three-run fifth in which he was charged with zero of the three runs the Royals drove in. Despite getting saddled with the loss, Tuesday’s outing was arguably the best of the year for Gausman. In addition to not allowing an earned run, his 6 2/3 innings pitched also marked a season-high. Gausman allowed 12 earned runs through his first three starts but has allowed only one in his last two games. Hopefully, rounding into form, he’ll look to turn in another strong outing on Sunday against the Dodgers and get off this 0-3 start. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:21 pm
    • Stroman inconsistent in win over A’s
Marcus Stroman allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings in a win over the A’s on Tuesday.

Advice: The line isn’t overly impressive, but Stroman did record nine strikeouts to just one walk on the day. His slider was especially dominant on Tuesday with a 60 percent whiff rate and 50 percent CSW that helped Stroman reach a 36 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW overall. That and his sinker were the only two pitches he had working on the day, allowing a 99 mph average exit velocity against his cutter and a 103 mph average exit velocity against his slurve. Luckily, he didn’t need more than that against the A’s, but he could find the sledding tougher against the Brewers on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:08 pm

    • Pepiot gets tough luck no decision vs DET
Ryan Pepiot allowed one run on three hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Pepiot struck out four and walked two on the evening but got no help from his offense. It wasn’t an overwhelming effort with a 22 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW, but Pepiot continued to pound the top of the strike zone with his four-seam fastball, which has been a big improvement now that he’s in Tampa. He simply didn’t have command of his slider tonight, keeping it up in the zone and missing his spots too often. He should be started against almost every opponent, including next week against the Brewers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:53 pm

    • Kenta Maeda bounces back in no decision vs TB
Kenta Maeda threw five shutout innings in a no-decision against the Rays with three hits allowed and five strikeouts.

Advice: Man, did the veteran need this one. There were some rumblings that Maeda should lose his rotation spot to Matt Manning, but the 36-year-old showcased improved velocity on all of his pitches and also worked in a sinker that he hadn’t yet thrown this season. The result was a 26 percent whiff rate, 27 percent CSW, and an average exit velocity allowed of just 83.7 mph. Maeda also had more movement on all of his main secondaries, which helped him post 38 percent whiff rates on both his splitter and sweeper. It’s unclear if these changes will stick, but it was nice for one outing and you could certainly run him out there next week against a reeling Cardinals team. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:46 pm
