    • Gausman allows one earned run in win over ChiSox
      Kevin Gausman allowed one earned and four hits over six innings while earning the win on Tuesday against the White Sox.

      Advice: Gausman didn’t face much resistance in this one, as the Blue Jays grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the second, which more or less put Gausman in cruise control against one of the league’s worst offenses. Gausman earned a win in three of his five stars this month, and will have a chance to start June off on a strong note when he makes his next scheduled start on Monday against the Orioles.       Eovaldi allowed two runs on five hits and struck out two without walking a batter over three innings while taking a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Eovaldi wasn't sent on a rehab assignment and was reportedly on a pitch count for his return from a groin strain. The right-hander ended up throwing 37 pitches (27 strikes) in his first start since May 2. Eovaldi is at a 2.84 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts this season. Given his limited workload Tuesday, Eovaldi may need to be stretched out over the next couple of weeks. That may make it tough for him to qualify for the win in his next projected start. It's possible Eovaldi pitches again this weekend versus Miami, as Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports that Andrew Heaney -- who threw 2.1 innings in relief Tuesday -- could be used as a long reliever while the Rangers' schedule doesn't require them to have five starters.       Nathan Eovaldi allowed two earned runs over three innings in Tuesday’s win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: After pitching a perfect first inning, Eovaldi ran into trouble in the second, allowing the first three batters he faced to reach base, with Pavin Smith doubling home Christian Walker to give the Diamondbacks their first run of the night. He would give up another run in the inning on a Eugenio Suárez sacrifice fly. He would only pitch one more inning before being pulled after 37 pitches, functioning somewhat as an opener for the Rangers after the team opted to scratch Dane Dunning from his scheduled start. It was Eovaldi’s first outing since May 2nd after he was placed on the 15-day IL with a groin strain.       Advice: Eovaldi will take the ball on Tuesday evening against the Diamondbacks following a three-week stint on the injured list recovering from a right groin strain. The 34-year-old veteran right-hander has remained a rock-solid mid-rotation stabilizer for fantasy managers this season, when healthy, with a sparkling 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 44/19 K/BB ratio across 41 1/3 innings (seven starts).       Advice: Valdez looked to be in for a rough night after giving up three runs on four hits in the first inning, but he settled in from there and yielded just two hits and no runs the rest of the way. That allowed him to squeak by with a quality start, though he nonetheless ended with his second straight loss. Valdez gave up eight runs over five frames against the Angels in his previous appearance, so this was a decent bounce-back despite the difficult first inning.     • Framber Valdez turns in quality start in loss
      Framber Valdez surrendered three runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Mariners.

      Advice: All of the runs scored in the first, an inning that could have been much worse if Jake Meyers didn’t cover half of the outfield to chase down a Cal Raleigh fly with the bases loaded. Valdez still gave up four hits that inning, but he allowed just two more the rest of the way. Nevertheless, he still took the loss in a 3-2 game, leaving him 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA for the season.       Ryan (4-3) earned the win Monday against the Royals, allowing one run on four hits and no walks over seven innings. He struck out nine.

      Advice: Ryan dominated the Royals, generating an impressive 15 whiffs en route to his nine punchouts. With Monday's effort, the 27-year-old righty collected his eighth quality start of the season. Overall, Ryan sports a 2.96 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 73:9 K:BB in 67 innings.
