    • Exits with apparent side issue
Nootbaar was removed in the bottom of the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Reds with an apparent left side injury, John Denton of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits before being lifted from the game.

Advice: Nootbaar grimaced on a check swing during a plate appearance in the seventh inning. He initially remained in the game after reaching on an infield single before eventually being pulled prior to the bottom of the eighth inning. The Cardinals could have more information on Nootbaar's condition after the game. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:53 pm

    • Lars Nootbaar exits game with apparent side injury
Lars Nootbaar left Wednesday’s game in the eighth inning with an apparent side injury.

Advice: Dylan Carlson replaced him. Nootbaar grabbed at his left oblique are during his seventh-inning at-bat, though he remained in and hit an infield single. After one more inning on defense, he exited at the start of the bottom of the eighth. Oblique issues are always scary, but this seemed like a truly minor one. We’ll see how it responds. If Nootbaar goes on the IL, perhaps Jordan Walker would rejoin the Cardinals. Walker has hit .283/.330/.391 in 23 games since being sent down. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:40 pm

    • Reds get TJ Friedl back from broken thumb
Reds activated OF TJ Friedl from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: It sounded like this was still at least a few days away, but the Reds are bringing Friedl back from a thumb fracture without the benefit of a rehab assignment. He’ll resume playing center field most of the time, and Jacob Hurtubise will probably head to the bench for the most part, though he might have a chance to start over Will Benson if he gets hot. • Makes return from IL
The Reds activated Friedl (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff in the Reds' series finale with the Cardinals.

Advice: Friedl missed just two and a half weeks with a fractured left thumb and will make his return without going on a rehab assignment beforehand. The outfielder has been limited to just six games this season due to the thumb injury as well as the fractured wrist. He should see the bulk of the action in center field for Cincinnati now that he's been cleared for game action. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:45 am

    • Lars Nootbaar returns to lineup Tuesday vs. Reds
Lars Nootbaar (hamstring) is hitting second and playing right field against the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: Nootbaar was scratched from the lineup Sunday with tightness in his hamstring, but the outfielder looked fine in pre-game workouts and is ready to roll for the tilt against Cincinnati. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:52 am

    • Returns to lineup Tuesday
Nootbaar (hamstring) will start in right field and bat second in Tuesday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: Nootbaar missed two starts after tweaking his hamstring in Saturday's game against the Cubs, but he worked out prior to Monday's contest and is ready to roll Tuesday. The 26-year-old has a 1.096 OPS with two homers over his last eight games. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:45 am

    • Takes part in light running Monday
Nootbaar (hamstring) hit in the batting cage and did some light running prior to Monday's game against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Nootbaar tweaked his hamstring while legging out a triple in Saturday's game against the Cubs and has since sat out the last two games. The outfielder told Denton that he should be ready to return to the lineup whenever the Cardinals give him the green light. The Cardinals are slated to face a left-hander starter Tuesday and have an off day Thursday, factors which could weigh into their decision as to when to reinsert Nootbaar into the lineup. • Moving rehab to Triple-A
Kwan (hamstring) will have his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Columbus beginning Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Kwan went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and a walk over two games with High-A Lake County over the weekend. The outfielder is expected to play six-to-eight innings in left field Tuesday. He may stay with Columbus for the remainder of the Guardians' road trip, which makes it possible Kwan could be ready to return to the majors by Friday. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:57 pm

    • Steven Kwan will start in Triple-A on Tuesday
According to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, Steven Kwan will start in left field for Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Advice: Vogt said the plan is for Kwan to play 6-8 innings in the field. If Kwan were to do that and come out feeling good, he might only need one or two more starts before the Guardians feel good about activating him from the IL. That could mean that Jonathan Rodriguez heads back to Triple-A. Rotoworld Monday, 12:00 pm
