    • Cardinals put Lars Nootbaar (oblique) on 10-day IL
Cardinals placed OF Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 30, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: Nootbaar felt something in his side after taking a swing and was removed from Wednesday’s game. Now he lands on the injured list and will likely wind up missing a couple weeks. Alec Burleson and Dylan Carlson will see increased playing time in the outfield in Nootbaar’s stead. Rotoworld Friday, 9:45 am

    • Lands on IL with oblique strain
The Cardinals placed Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 30, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: Nootbaar suffered the injury on a check swing during Wednesday's win over the Reds. It's the outfielder's second stint on the IL this season, as he previously missed time with two fractured ribs. The timing is poor, as Nootbaar was slashing .313/.418/.552 with four home runs over his last 79 plate appearances. With Nootbaar out, Alec Burleson will play more in the outfield and Matt Carpenter will see time at designated hitter. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:10 am

    • On verge of return
Kwan (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base in a rehab game with Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: After two games with High-A Lake County, Kwan moved his rehab to Columbus earlier this week. He was on base three times Thursday in his second game with the Guardians' top minor-league affiliate and added a steal for good measure, showing good confidence in his hamstring. The 26-year-old appears poised to return to the major-league lineup in the near future, possibly as soon as Friday against Washington, and will look to pick up where he left off before going down after posting a .353/.407/.496 slash line over his first 32 games this season. • Two more steals in win
Thomas went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Thursday's win over Atlanta.

Advice: Thomas reached base and stole second in each of his first two trips to the plate while also coming around to score a run in the latter at-bat. The outfielder has been on a tear since returning from the injured list and is now batting .353 (6-for-17) through four games in May with three RBI, four stolen bases and four runs scored, swiping a pair of bags in back-to-back contests. • Lane Thomas swipes two bags in win over ATL
Lane Thomas stole two bases and scored a run in a victory over Atlanta on Thursday.

Advice: Thomas continues to be one of the better stolen-base threats in the sport, and it’s worth pointing out that his 15 swipes have come in just 26 games. The speed has been there for the 28-year-old. Now, about that .212/.278/.327 slash line. Those numbers should continue to get better, but in the meantime, he’s definitely helping fantasy managers in one category. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:00 pm

    • Hitless in return
Friedl went 0-for-3 with two walks in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to St. Louis.

Advice: Friedl was activated off the injured list Wednesday after successfully rehabbing a thumb injury. He resumed his roles as the team's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. It's been a season of stops and starts thus far for Friedl, who was back only six games from a wrist injury when he injured the thumb. The Reds and fantasy managers alike are hoping for his sustained presence in the lineup. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:18 am

    • Stuffs stat sheet in victory
Thomas went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run, a double, a walk and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 7-2 win against Atlanta.

Advice: Washington was being shut out by rookie hurler Spencer Schwellenbach until Thomas tagged him for a three-run homer in the fifth inning. That was the biggest highlight of a very productive performance by the outfielder, who added a couple cherries on top with a pair of steals in the ninth frame. This was Thomas' third game back since missing over a month while on the injured list, and he's gone 5-for-13 with four extra-base hits since his return. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:20 pm

    • Lane Thomas homers, steals two bases
Lane Thomas went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead three-run home run, double, walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in the Nationals win over the Braves on Wednesday.

Advice: Thomas has been scorching hot since coming off the IL on Monday going 5-for-13 with four extra-base hits. The stolen bases were his first two since being activated and pushed his total up to 13 on the year despite missing more than a month. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:36 pm

    • Lars Nootbaar (side) to undergo further evaluation
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Lars Nootbaar will undergo further evaluation on his injured list.

Advice: Marmol noted that Nootbaar felt something in his side on a swing, and they wanted to take a cautious approach, so they pulled him from the game and put in Dylan Carlson. Anticipate that he’ll get some imaging done to determine the severity of the injury and a trip to the injured list isn’t out of the question just yet. The Cardinals should have a better idea on his status on Thursday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:50 pm
