However, Alvarado would proceed to strike out Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, picking up his ninth save in a 5-2 win. While the Phillies have utilized a modified committee approach to the ninth inning, the left-handed Alvarado has established himself as their preferred closing option.       José Alvarado pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in the Phillies’ 5-2 win over the Rangers.

      Advice: Alvarado did allow a hit, but he also struck out two and was in no real danger in the inning as he picked up his ninth save of the year. Despite it seeming like the Phillies would go to a closer-by-committee situation earlier in the year, Alvarado has recorded four of the team’s six saves during the month and has now allowed eight hits while striking out six and walking none in 8 2/3 innings.       Trevor Megill fired a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday against the Marlins to record his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: Megill got the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and needed just 14 pitches (11 strikes) to slam the door. It was a much-needed bounce-back after suffering his first blown save of the season during Monday’s series opener at loan Depot park.     • Jarren Duran homers, steals home vs. Rays
      Jarren Duran went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday’s win over the Rays.

      Advice: Duran hit his third homer of the season in the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the eighth inning, Durran caught the defense sleeping when he stole home after Rays catcher Ben Rortvedt threw down to second to try and catch Rafael Devers stealing. The Red Sox left fielder has now hit safely in seven straight games and is hitting .278 in the month of May.

      Advice: Díaz is back handling the catching duties for Colorado in Oakland following a four-game absence due to left hand soreness.       Robert (hip) will begin playing in Arizona Complex League games on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

      Advice: Robert has been on the shelf since April 6 due to a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain, but he now appears to be ready to test his hip in a competitive environment. The plan is for him to remain at the White Sox's complex in Arizona through the weekend before officially beginning an assignment with one of Chicago's minor-league affiliates next week.       Advice: The plan appears to be for Robert to get a couple games in this week out in Arizona before heading out on an official minor league rehab assignment next week. The 26-year-old fantasy superstar has been on the shelf since early April due to a Grade 2 hip flexor strain that was expected to keep him sidelined for at least 6-8 weeks.     • Collects sixth win
      Gray (6-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to earn the win Monday over the Orioles.

      Advice: Gray gave up a three-run blast to Gunnar Henderson in the sixth inning, but the Cardinals were able to maintain their lead after that. The long ball has become a problem for the veteran right-hander -- he's surrendered five homers while giving up 14 runs (12 earned) over his last 16.2 innings. He's still managed to win two of his three starts in that span. Gray is at a 2.87 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB through 47 innings across eight starts this season. He allowed all of eight homers in 32 starts last year, so it's worth keeping an eye on whether Gray can keep the ball down better moving forward.
