Advice: The two-week estimate for the beginning of a rehab assignment pushes Casas' targeted return date to later in July. He's progressed to taking dry swings in the batting cage, having done so June 26 and again July 3. He's also tracked pitches against the Trajekt machine, which mimics MLB pitchers. Oneil Cruz delivers walk-off hit to beat CardinalsOneil Cruz delivered a game-winning single in the 10th inning on Wednesday, leading the Pirates to a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Cardinals.
Advice: Cruz followed Bryan Reynolds’ game-tying single in the bottom of the 10th-inning by scalding a 106-mph line-drive to right field off Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero that sent the Pirates faithful home in walk-off fashion. The 25-year-old shortstop recorded an impressive three batted ball events in the extra-inning marathon with exit velocities over 106 mph. There have been some considerable ups and down this season for Cruz, which isn’t totally unexpected after missing nearly all of last year due to a serious leg injury, but he’s had some extremely promising moments. Blanks Friars for fifth winEovaldi (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Padres, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
Advice: Bryce Johnson's third-inning single spoiled any shot Eovaldi might have had at making history, but the right-hander still put together a dominant performance before leaving the mound after 92 pitches (61 strikes). The quality start was his sixth of the year, and Eovaldi will take a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 80:26 K:BB through 80 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Rays.
