    • Castillo strikes out eight in victory over Jays
      Luis Castillo allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts while holding the Blue Jays to one run in a victory Friday.

      Advice: Castillo took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a solo homer to Kevin Kiermaier to break up the no-no and the shutout. He allowed a single to Spencer Horwitz a batter later, but that was it in terms of hits. It was a sensational outing for Castillo which has been the usual for the right-hander at home; he has a 2.14 ERA over his last 12 dozen outings in Seattle.     • Aaron Nola strikes out eight in win
      Aaron Nola allowed three earned runs across six innings in a win Friday against the Braves. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

      Advice: Nola was fantastic in this one. His 21 swings-and-misses were the most he’s forced in a game this season and first time he’s hit that total since June 5th of last year.     • Delivers quality start
      Nola (10-4) yielded three runs on five hits over six innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over Atlanta.

      Advice: Nola got through three shutout frames before coughing up a two-run shot to Austin Riley in the fourth inning. Ozzie Albies then knocked a solo homer in the sixth. It was the first time that Nola gave up multiple home runs since May 31 after allowing three in the entire month of June. He forced a season-high 21 swinging strikes, with 10 coming on the knuckle curve. He's delivered quality starts in nine of his last 10 outings, including four straight. During that 10-start stretch, the veteran righty has posted a 3.34 ERA while going 6-2. Nola will carry a 3.48 ERA into his next outing, which is currently lined up to be at home against the Dodgers.       Reynolds went 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored in a 14-2 win over the Mets on Friday.

      Advice: Reynolds gave the Pirates the lead on a two-run home run in the fifth inning then broke things open with a grand slam in the seventh. He hit .330 with six homers in June and has carried his power stroke into July with three long balls and eight RBI through four games.     • Slated for flat-ground throwing
      Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Montgomery (knee) will begin throwing off flat ground Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

      Advice: Lovullo noted that Montgomery is still dealing with a bit of inflammation in his right knee, but the team believes he'll be in good enough condition to throw.       Bryan Reynolds went 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI, and two runs scored on Friday against the Mets.

      Advice: Reynolds was all over the Mets in this one. His two-run homer in the fifth inning pulled the Pirates ahead and his seventh inning grand slam broke this game open. It was the second time in his career he’s homered from both sides of the plate in the same game and he pulled his OPS up to .831 with 16 homers and 54 RBI. He is a perpetually underrated stud.     • Montgomery set to throw off flat ground Saturday
      Jordan Montgomery (knee) is scheduled to throw off of flat ground on Saturday.

      Advice: Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Montgomery is still dealing with some inflammation in his knee, but the expectation is that he’ll be good enough to resume throwing on Saturday.       Advice: In addition to his two hits, Naylor also got aboard on a fielder's choice and a catcher interference. The first baseman endured a 3-for-20 stretch over six games from June 22-28, but he's bounced back with a trio of multi-hit efforts over his last five contests.
