    Marlins claimed RHP Darren McCaughan off waivers from the Marlins.

    Diaz struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: Seeing his first action since serving a 10-game suspension for use of a foreign substance, Diaz hit Oneil Cruz with a pitch to begin the frame but escaped the minor jam by striking out Rowdy Tellez and getting Andrew McCutchen to ground into a double play. Diaz has had a turbulent campaign in his return from a knee injury that cost him the entire 2023 season, but he had been showing signs of turning things around prior to the suspension -- he's allowed only one run in his last six innings with a 7:0 K:BB.     Clase walked one and struck out none over a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Giants.

    Edwin Diaz tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Pirates on Saturday.

    Advice: Diaz slammed the door on the Pirates to preserve a 5-2 victory for New York. The save was his eighth of the season and first since returning from a 10-game suspension for using an illegal foreign substance. The Mets had the league’s worst bullpen ERA while he was out.     Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Giants on Saturday.

    The Mets activated Diaz from his 10-game suspension Saturday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

    Advice: Diaz was dealt an automatic 10-game suspension June 24 for the use of an illegal substance on the mound, and he'll now reclaim his usual role as New York's closer. The 30-year-old has been met with struggles this season, putting up a 4.70 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 23 innings, but his return will still provide a much-needed boost to the Mets' bullpen, which posted an 8.37 ERA while Diaz was suspended.   • Logs second rehab outing
    Kelly (shoulder) tossed one scoreless inning, during which he allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one batter, in a rehab appearance with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.

    Advice: Kelly had a bit of trouble finding the strike zone -- seven of his 13 pitches were balls -- and he allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base via a single and a walk. However, the veteran reliever followed with a strikeout before inducing an inning-ending double play to escape without allowing any runs. Kelly has tossed two scoreless frames through two rehab outings with the Single-A Quakes. It's not clear how many more minor-league appearances he'll be asked to make before being activated from the injured list, but there appears to be a good chance that he'll be back in Los Angeles' bullpen before the All-Star break. The 30-year-old will be back in New York’s bullpen for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates. According to Newsday’s Tim Healey, the Mets’ bullpen recorded a league-worst 8.37 ERA during his absence.     Javier Assad (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Friday.

    Advice: Assad landed on the injured list last week with a right forearm strain, so it’s an extremely encouraging sign that he came out of Friday’s side session without any issues.
