    • Evan Carter (back) nearing rehab assignment
Evan Carter (back) progressed to running the bases on Thursday at Globe Life Field.

Advice: It’s typically the final hurdle to clear before a position player heads out for a minor league rehab assignment, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Carter get into some rehab contests in the coming days. The 21-year-old former top prospect struggled out of the gate this season before hitting the injured list last month with a stress reaction in his back. He should be ready to return at some point in early August. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Vaughn Grissom could start a rehab assignment soon
The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey reports that Grissom “could see a rehab assignment within the next couple weeks.”

Advice: After the Red Sox traded Chris Sale to get Grissom this offseason, the 23-year-old has only played in 23 games. He began the year on the IL with a hamstring injury and then was sidelined a month later when they resurfaced. According to McCaffrey, “The Red Sox have tried to balance out the strength in each hamstring to ensure he can stay on the field.” With David Hamilton playing well, the Red Sox likely won’t rush Grissom back, but his eventual return could complicate playing time in the middle infield. • Shohei Ohtani goes deep in Midsummer Classic
Shohei Ohtani walloped a three-run homer during Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Ohtani connected on a center-cut heater from Red Sox starter Tanner Houck, launching a colossal 400-foot no-doubter to right field, putting the National League ahead in the early stages of the Midsummer Classic. The 30-year-old two-way superstar became the first Dodger to homer in the All-Star Game since Mike Piazza back in 1996. It’s yet another signature moment for his end-of-career highlight reel. • Aiming to return by end of July
Trout (knee) has been swinging a bat as part of his rehab activities and is targeting a return from the 10-day injured list by the end of July, Jill Painter Lopez of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Trout hasn't yet done work in the outfield, but he's anticipating being able to rejoin the Angels at the end of July. The future Hall of Famer hasn't played in a game since going 0-for-3 against Philadelphia on April 29. It's not yet clear if he'll play in any minor-league rehab games prior to rejoining the big club. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:58 pm

    • Ohtani says Derby absence a ‘load issue’
Shohei Ohtani said decided to sit out the Home Run Derby as a “load issue,” and that he could participate next year.

Advice: Ohtani has been taking less batting practice than usual this year as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Taking a whole bunch of home run cuts tonight probably wasn’t in his best interests. Rotoworld Monday, 1:22 pm

    • Homers in loss
Campusano went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: Campusano entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh and took A.J. Minter deep for a two-run blast to make it a 5-3 deficit for the Padres. The long ball was his first hit in eight at-bats since being activated from the injured list July 5 and was his sixth homer on the year. Campusano has started just two games since his activation and will need to recapture his form from 2023 if he is to earn a larger role. The 25-year-old backstop is slashing .230/.276/.376 with 19 extra-base hits, 33 RBI, 26 runs and a 14:29 BB:K in 228 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:59 am
    • Notches third steal
Mountcastle went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mountcastle's steal was his third of the year, putting him one shy of matching his career high. The first baseman's speed isn't notable, but he's been steady at the plate, going 10-for-40 (.250) over 10 contests in July. Overall, he's slashing .271/.311.,447 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI, 44 runs scored, 22 doubles and a triple through 88 games this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:00 pm
    • Homers in Sunday's win
Henderson went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Henderson's power pace has dipped in July -- he has two homers this month, though he's still hit .275 (14-for-51) over his last 12 contests. The shortstop's blast gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Henderson is up to 28 homers this season, matching his total from 150 games last year in just 95 contests in 2024. He's added a .286/.373/.584 slash line, 63 RBI, 78 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, 18 doubles and five triples. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:52 pm
    • Takes loss Sunday
Duran (5-4) allowed an unearned run on one hit without retiring a batter to take the loss Sunday versus the Giants.

Advice: Duran gave up a triple to Mike Yastrzemski to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, and it turned into a run after Brooks Lee's relay throw ended up in the dugout. It's a tough way for Duran to take a loss, which also ended his 7.2-inning scoreless streak, but it won't hurt his ERA, which remains at 2.93 to go with a 0.98 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 30.2 innings. Since Duran was pitching in a tied game before giving up the run, he also will avoid taking his second blown save of the year, and his status as the Twins' primary closer is not in question.
