      Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

      Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff.     • Hurls complete-game shutout
      Stone (9-2) picked up the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing four hits and no walks in a complete-game shutout while striking out seven.

      Advice: Stone was spectacular Wednesday, matching his season high with seven strikeouts en route to recording the first complete game of his major-league career. The right-hander retired the side in order in five of his nine frames and didn't allow a runner to reach second base outside of a leadoff double from Gavin Sheets to open the second. Stone has now won each of his last five decisions (spanning six starts) and has also posted at least six strikeouts in five of his last six outings.     • Struggles again Wednesday
      Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15.     • Luis Gil struggles again in loss
      Luis Gil labored through 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five earned runs with four walks and just two strikeouts.

      Advice: There’s been a hard shift in Gil’s season over the past week. He gave up 18 ER in his first 80 innings and 12 ER in his last 5 2/3 frames. He looked uncomfortable and weirdly enough, these last two starts he threw his lowest percentage of fastballs and two of his three highest percentages of changeups in any start this season. It’s important to note that he threw only 136 2/3 innings between 2021 and 2023, so the 85 2/3 he’s already thrown this season are already substantial given his lengthy injury history.

    • Gavin Stone tosses complete-game shutout in win
      Gavin Stone tossed a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts in a win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

      Advice: Stone made perhaps his best start of his career Wednesday against the White Sox, going a career-high nine scoreless innings for his first complete-game shutout. He scattered four hits and did not walk a batter, tossing 73-of-103 pitches for strikes with seven strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander has been outstanding on the season, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 70/25 K/BB ratio across 89 innings.     • Fans eight in no-decision
      Lugo did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Miami, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander was in line for his 11th win when departing this outing, only to be let down by his bullpen. With this scoreless performance, Lugo collected his third straight quality start and lowered his June ERA to 3.69 over 31.2 innings with a 29:8 K:BB. Overall, he sports a 2.29 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 95:26 K:BB across 110 innings this season. Lugo is currently slated to make one more start this month against Cleveland at home this weekend.       Seth Lugo pitched six scoreless innings while striking out eight in Tuesday’s loss to the Marlins.

      Advice: Lugo allowed just two hits and four total baserunners on the night, doing his part to stifle a Marlins lineup that hasn’t struck fear in too many pitchers this season. Unfortunately for Lugo, the slim 1-0 lead he exited with was last in the seventh inning when reliever Carlos Hernández allowed an RBI single to Nick Gordon to tie the game. Regardless of the outcome, it was a solid night for Lugo, who lowered his ERA to 2.29 on the season.     • Punches out seven
      Valdez (6-5) allowed a run on six hits and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win against Baltimore.

      Advice: Valdez rolled through five shutout frames without facing too much trouble before Jordan Westburg belted a solo shot in the sixth inning. The Astros gave Valdez plenty of run support as he halted a brief two-start losing streak. It was the third time this year he's struck out at least seven batters, and each of those outings have come in his last eight starts. He's produced an impressive 2.73 ERA through 33 innings this month, lowering his season mark to 3.68 across 80.2 frames.
