    • Tommy Edman to start rehab assignment on Tuesday
Tommy Edman (wrist, ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.

Advice: Edman is set to take live batting practice on Friday and Saturday before heading out to finally begin his minor league rehab assignment. Given the long layoff, he’s probably going to need quite a few games there before he’s deemed ready to join the Cardinals. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until after the All-Star break. • Orlando Arcia (tooth) returns to Braves’ lineup
Orlando Arcia (tooth) returned to the Braves’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Phillies.

Advice: The 29-year-old shortstop missed each of the Braves’ last three contests due to an abscessed tooth and an infection that went along with it. Thankfully, he’s feeling much better on Friday and ready to return to action. He’ll start at shortstop and bat ninth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday evening in Atlanta. • Returns to lineup
Arcia (tooth) will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Friday's game versus the Phillies.

Advice: Arcia missed three games after having an abscessed tooth extracted, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in the series opener versus a division rival. The 29-year-old sports a disappointing .582 OPS this season for Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 12:20 pm

    • Swats 12th homer Thursday
Profar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run in Thursday's 3-1 win against Texas.

Advice: Profar powered the Padres to a 2-0 lead with his his solo blast to right field in the sixth inning. The recently anointed All-Star continues to be productive, gathering at least one hit in 15 of his past 16 contests and slashing .295/.348/.443 with two homers, 11 RBI, 11 runs and a stolen base over that span. Profar ranks third among qualified hitters with a .317 batting average on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 11:29 am
    • IL stint not ruled out
Arcia is still not eating solid food after having an abscessed tooth pulled, and Atlanta might wind up placing him on the injured list, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: The shortstop is fighting an infection he developed before the tooth was extracted. "All he's getting in him right now, is kind of the [protein] shakes and soup and things like that," manager Brian Snitker said Thursday. "So we were hoping we could maybe get him over here today and move around a little bit. We'll get him out here [Friday]." Arcia hasn't played since June 30 and slashed just .155/.217/.238 through 92 plate appearances last month. While Atlanta remains optimistic he could return to the lineup in short order, per MLB.com his availability for this weekend's series against the Phillies is in doubt. • Survives early onslaught
Valdez (7-5) earned the win over Toronto on Thursday, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Advice: It looked like Valdez could be in for a rough outing when five of the first six batters he faced got a hit, resulting in three runs. However, the left-hander got out of that frame without incurring additional damage, and he went on to complete six frames without surrendering any more runs. Eight of the nine hits Valdez allowed overall were singles, which was key in limiting damage, as Toronto hit into four double plays against him. This was far from Valdez's sharpest outing, but he was nonetheless able to log his seventh victory and ninth quality start of the campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:57 pm
    • Jurickson Profar powers Padres to win over Rangers
Jurickson Profar went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer on Thursday, sparking the Padres to a 3-1 victory over the Rangers.

Advice: Less than 24 hours after being named to the first All-Star Game roster of his career, Profar came back to haunt his former team with a sixth-inning solo shot off Rangers veteran starter Max Scherzer for his 12th round-tripper of the season. The 31-year-old corner outfielder’s unexpected late-career breakout continues as he’s batting .317 with 50 runs scored, 12 homers, 56 RBI and five steals through 89 games this season. Orlando Arcia (tooth) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Giants.

    • Sitting again Thursday
Arcia (tooth) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Thursday's game versus the Giants.

Advice: Arcia will miss a third straight game Thursday as he continues to deal with an abscessed tooth. Zack Short will pick up another start at shortstop as a result and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:07 pm
