    • Sitting against left-hander
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Thursday's season opener versus the White Sox.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Carpenter will take a seat with the White Sox sending left-hander Garrett Crochet to the bump. Mark Canha is in the designated hitter spot, while Matt Vierling will cover right field. Rotowire.com Today, 11:10 am
    • Moves to injured list
The Marlins placed Perez (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25.

Advice: The 20-year-old has been destined for the injured list since being diagnosed with elbow inflammation last week, and the Marlins officially made the transaction Thursday. Perez resumed throwing over the weekend but will need to time to build up his arm strength, so he should be sidelined well beyond the 15-day minimum. Rotowire.com Today, 10:56 am

    • Set to be No. 3 hitter
Freeman batted third in the order for both Seoul Series games against the Padres as well as throughout the Cactus League slate, contradicting a comment by manager Dave Roberts early in camp that the first baseman would remain the Dodgers' No. 2 hitter despite the offseason signing of Shohei Ohtani.

Advice: Freeman batted second in each of the 161 games he played in last season, but it appears he'll move down a slot with Ohtani now in the fold. The veteran first baseman should get plenty of run-producing opportunities with Mookie Betts and Ohtani hitting ahead of him, and he'll also remain protected with the solid bat of catcher Will Smith behind him for most games. Freeman slashed .282/.333/.667 along with four homers and a team-leading 16 RBI over 42 plate appearances in spring action and went 1-for-6 with four walks in the Seoul Series versus San Diego. • Freddie Freeman blasts fourth homer of spring
Freddie Freeman hit his fourth home run of the spring while going 1-for-2 in the Dodgers’ 4-3 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Freeman blasted a 432 foot solo shot off Angels righty Chase Silseth to give the Dodgers their first run of the day. His four home runs leads all Dodgers players this spring, as the 34-year-old first baseman appears to be in mid-season form. In addition to his four homers, Freeman closes out the spring with 16 RBI and a .282 batting average. He and the Dodgers will play their first game stateside on Thursday when they host the Cardinals.

    • Michael King strikes out seven against Mariners
Michael King pitched relatively well in his final spring training tune-up on Tuesday, giving up three runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings against the Mariners.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Julio Rodriguez launching a two-run shot in the opening inning and Dylan Moore belting a solo shot in the second inning. King will make his first start — and try for his second victory of the regular season — when he takes the hill against the Giants on Sunday. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:17 pm
    • Bryce Miller holds down Padres for four innings
Bryce Miller allowed one run and one hit over four innings Monday as the Mariners bested the Padres 4-1.

Advice: Miller had little luck with his new splitter tonight, but he was still effective in allowing just one hit. He ends the spring 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA and a 13/6 K/BB in 12 innings. His next start will come Sunday in the finale of a four-game series against the Red Sox. Rotoworld Monday, 10:34 pm

    • Anthony Volpe hitless in loss to Diablos
Anthony Volpe went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a walk in an 8-5 loss to Diablos Rojos del México in México City on Monday.

Advice: Volpe cooled off in his final four games of Spring Training going 3-for-13 but only struck out twice during that stretch. Prior to these final four games, Volpe was batting .368 in spring camp and has been swinging more for contact rather than power. If he can find a mix of both throughout the season, he can offer fantasy managers some value in a star-studded Yankees lineup. Rotoworld Monday, 8:30 pm

    • Cleared for throwing program
Ohtani (elbow) played catch Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last September, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Ohtani was spotted throwing in the outfield following a scheduled press conference Monday afternoon to address the formal investigation into the matter involving his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, where Ohtani denied knowledge of Mizuhara using his money to place bets with an allegedly illegal bookmaker and voiced his full cooperation with the investigation, per Sportsnet LA. "I never bet on baseball or any other sports, or never have asked somebody to do it on my behalf," said Ohtani. "And I have never went through a bookmaker to bet on sports. Up until a couple days ago, I didn't know this was happening." As for Ohtani's rehab from elbow surgery, the team previously indicated that he'd begin a throwing program upon returning to Los Angeles, and if all goes well, he could have an outside shot to play in the outfield or at first base later in the season. • Likely to close while Sewald is out
Ginkel is the most likely option to close for the Diamondbacks while Paul Sewald (oblique) is sidelined, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Sewald could be facing a fairly lengthy absence after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain. While manager Torey Lovullo didn't want to name a closer in Sewald's absence, but all signs point to Ginkel getting the first crack at the job. The 30-year-old collected a 2.48 ERA and 70:23 K:BB over 65.1 frames during the regular season for Arizona last season, picking up four saves along the way. Ginkel also spun 11.2 shutout innings with a 15:5 K:BB during the postseason. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:54 pm
