  • Erick Aybar (hamstring) should be back Sunday
Erick Aybar (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: It's Aybar's second absence in a row. He'll go through a full workout Saturday and should be back in the lineup on Sunday. Taylor Featherston is likely to grab another start at shortstop. Aybar left Thursday's game with a pulled left hamstring.

  • Tim Beckham comes out with hamstring cramp
Tim Beckham left Saturday's game against the Orioles with a right hamstring cramp.

  • Rangers designate Field for assignment
Rangers designated infielder Tommy Field for assignment.

Advice: We'd take Field over Adam Rosales if we were in the Rangers' spot, but both are fringe guys. Field hit .195/.250/.366 in 41 at-bats while sharing time with Rosales at second base. This could be taken as a sign that Rougned Odor will be back in the majors soon. In the meantime, the Rangers still have Delino DeShields Jr. as an alternative to Rosales at second base.

Adeiny Hechavarria (shoulder) is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Saturday against the Mets.

The 23-year-old is hitting just .243/.280/.347 with one homer and 14 RBI in 173 at-bats on the year, and could concede more playing time to Revere unless he starts turning it up offensively.

  • Ahmed hits go-ahead homer vs. Brewers
Nick Ahmed hit a go-ahead solo homer off Jonathan Broxton in the top of the eighth inning as part of a 7-5 win over the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: A.J. Pollock added some insurance one inning later with a two-run blast off Corey Knebel. Ahmed has gone deep three times in his last seven games after failing to hit a home run over his first 35 games this season. The 25-year-old is batting just .214/.277/.325 on the year.

  • Peralta has two hits in win over Dodgers
Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a walk, and a run scored in Friday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Peralta's seventh-inning double off Juan Nicasio provided some insurance for the Cardinals' bullpen. The 33-year-old has four multi-hit games in his last five and is batting .311 with seven home runs and 26 RBI across 47 games. Production at the shortstop position has been hard to come by this season, but Peralta is right there among the best.

  • Bogaerts (forearm) has sac fly Friday vs. TEX
Xander Bogaerts (forearm) went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly Friday against the Rangers.

Advice: Bogaerts suffered a bruised left forearm when he was hit by a pitch during Thursday's game, but he didn't end up missing any time. The 22-year-old is batting .263/.312/.369 with two home runs and 16 RBI through 46 games this season.

  • Tulowitzki homers twice to power Rockies
Troy Tulowitzki clobbered a pair of solo home runs off Cole Hamels on Friday, powering the Rockies to a 4-1 victory over the Phillies.

Advice: Tulo got the Rockies on the board with his solo blast in the first inning and repeated the feat in the third inning. He also collected a pair of singles, finishing the night 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. The oft-injured shortstop is now hitting .285/.303/.456 with four long balls and 20 RBI on the season.

  • Addison Russell homers in loss to Royals
Addison Russell blasted his fourth home run of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday.

Advice: His solo shot off Kelvin Herrera tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning, but wound up being the extent of the Cubs offense. He also doubled in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-4. Russell is now hitting .260/.305/.455 with four homers and 14 RBI in his limited time in the big leagues.

  • Story's resurgence continues
Rockies prospect SS/2B Trevor Story went 2-for-5 with a solo home run on Thursday for Double-A New Britain.

Advice: The dinger was Story’s seventh of the season, while the multi-hit performance raised his overall batting line to .321/.413/.564 through 44 games. The 22-year-old also has 13 doubles, nine steals and 30 RBI on the season, and he’s lowered his strikeout rate to 26.5 percent after fanning at a 31.1 percent clip in 2014. Story began to resuscitate his prospect stock last season after a dismal 2013 campaign, but this year’s he’s re-established himself as one of the more productive middle-infield prospects in the minor leagues. Story is making a strong case for a call-up later in the season, and he could even receive an extended look at shortstop should the Rockies decide to trade Troy Tulowitzki.

  • Seager tallies six RBI on six hits for OKC
Dodgers prospect SS Corey Seager had a career day at the plate on Thursday, going 6-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: It took Seager a few weeks to fully adjust to the Triple-A level but he's now officially on fire, with an insane .722 (13-for-18)/.750/1.444 batting line, seven extra-base hits (three home runs) and 10 RBI in his last four games. The 21-year-old’s hot streak has pushed his Triple-A batting line to .324/.367/.490 through 25 contests, and he’s batting .346/.385/.571 with eight home runs and 12 doubles over 45 games between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The Dodgers don’t have any reason to rush Seager, especially after the official signing of Hector Olivera, but he’s clearly going to make it difficult for the organization to keep him in the minors for the entire season.

  • Erick Aybar (hamstring) considered day-to-day
Angels manager Mike Scioscia considers Erick Aybar (hamstring) day-to-day and doesn't think he'll require a disabled list stint.

Advice: Aybar was lifted from Thursday's game against the Tigers due to tightness in his left hamstring. He actually tried to talk his way into staying in, so it doesn't appear to be too serious. Scioscia said the club will be careful, though, so he figures to be out a few days. "He's as important as anyone on our team," the skipper said.

  • Aybar pulled with tightness in left hamstring
Erick Aybar was pulled from Thursday's game against the Tigers due to tightness in his left hamstring.

Advice: It's unclear if it's a day-to-day type of ailment, or if Aybar may require a stint on the disabled list. It may depend on how the shortstop is feeling on Friday. If he is forced to see an extended absence, the Angels may be forced to recall Josh Rutledge from Triple-A.

  • Erick Aybar leaves game with hamstring injury
Erick Aybar was removed from Thursday's game against the Tigers with an apparent hamstring injury.

Advice: Aybar was hustling down the first base line while attempting to beat out a bunt single in the fifth inning. • Bogaerts leaves after getting hit by pitch
Xander Bogaerts was removed from Thursday's game against the Rangers after being hit by a pitch in his left wrist.

  • Red Sox designate Bianchi for assignment
Red Sox designated INF Jeff Bianchi for assignment.

Advice: With Eduardo Rodriguez, Robbie Ross, and Carlos Peguero all joining the team on Thursday, Bianchi gets the boot. The 28-year-old was just called up from Triple-A on Sunday and didn't get a plate appearance. There's a decent chance he'll pass through waivers unclaimed.

Dodgers shortstop prospect Corey Seager delivered four hits Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 21-year-old mega-talent homered twice Monday and is now batting .500 with four RBI over his last three contests. The former first-round pick has made a smooth transition to Triple-A, hitting .280 in 93 at-bats since his call-up. Seager is's sixth-ranked prospect. • Ahmed hits second home run against Cardinals
Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: After going 35 games without a home run, Ahmed has now homered twice in his past five games. Ahmed also doubled in the game, raising his line to .218/.279/.311. That doesn't sound like much, but the shortstop is hitting .290 in May after a brutal April.

  • Russell delivers walk-off 2B as Cubs top Nats
Addison Russell delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Cubs to a win against the Nationals on Tuesday.

Advice: Russell finished 3-for-4 on the night. The Cubs had a runner on second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Russell ripped a double to right-center off of reliever Matt Grace. Russell now has 11 doubles on the season and is batting .252/.301/.426 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

  • Peralta's walk-off homer wins it for Cards
Jhonny Peralta singled and ripped a walk-off, solo home run in Monday's victory over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Cardinals' bullpen coughed up a lead in the eighth inning and they had to pitch out of bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th. However, Peralta made the wait worth it with a leadoff shot against J.C. Ramirez that just snuck over the left-field wall. • Xander Bogaerts hits second homer
Xander Bogaerts hit just his second homer of the year Wednesday against the Rangers.

Advice: Bogaerts has essentially been a league average offensive shortstop with his .260 average, two homers and 10 walks in 131 at-bats, but that's because the shortstops as a whole have been pretty awful this season. He's been pretty solid defensively, too; while his range isn't the greatest, miscues have been few and far between. Of course, the hope was that Bogaerts would be a whole lot better than average. He still might be, but nothing so far suggests he's on the verge of breaking out.
