  • Marcus Semien homers, walks against Indians
Marcus Semien homered, walked and scored twice against the Indians on Saturday.

Advice: Semien has more errors (29) than RBI (23) or walks (25) this year, yet he still has an OPS (.670) right at the league average for shortstops. It's about as weird of a bad season as one could dream up. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:52 pm

  • Peralta's solo home run not enough for Cards
Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Peralta jerked a Jorge De La Rosa offering out of the park in the fourth inning for his lone hit of the game. The tater was his 16th of the season. In addition to those 16 dingers, Peralta has driven in 54 runs and is hitting .288/.344/.468. He's homered in each of his last two games. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:30 pm
  • Andrelton Simmons leaves with thumb injury
Andrelton Simmons left Saturday's game against the Phillies after jamming his right thumb on a play in left field.

Advice: Daniel Castro replaced him in the eighth inning. His X-rays came back negative but the soreness could keep Simmons out for a few days. He was hitless in three at-bats before exiting. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:11 pm
  • Suarez drives in three runs in win over PIT
Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-2 with an RBI double and three total RBI in Saturday's win over the Pirates.

Advice: Suarez drove in two of his three runs with productive outs, hitting sacrifice flies in the second and eighth innings. He also drove in a run with a double off Pirates starter Gerrit Cole in the fourth inning. Filling in for the injured Zack Cozart, Suarez has been one of the best stories to come along this season and his .302/.333/.456 triple-slash isn't anything to sneeze at. • Kang cracks solo home run in loss to Reds
Jung Ho Kang went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Reds.

Advice: Kang took a Raisel Iglesias offering for a ride with two outs and nobody on in the fourth inning. The homer was his eighth of the season. He hit a blistering .379/.443/.621 in July, a triple-slash that was buoyed by 13 extra-base hits over the course of the month. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:52 pm
  • Zobrist clubs two homers as Royals top Jays
Ben Zobrist clubbed a pair of solo home runs on Saturday, leading the Royals to a 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Advice: Zobrist got the scoring started with a solo shot off Jays starter Mark Buehrle in the first inning. He then took Mark Lowe deep in the eighth inning, tying the game at 5-5 and igniting a rally that would lead the Royals to victory. He also doubled in the ballgame, finishing the afternoon 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 12:41 pm
  • Troy Tulowitzki not in Jays lineup Saturday
Troy Tulowitzki is not in the Blue Jays lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Manager John Gibbons simply wanted to give his new shortstop a day of rest. Munenori Kawasaki will start in his place and bat eighth against Yordano Ventura on Saturday. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:57 am
  • Castro drives in two runs vs. Brewers
Starlin Castro knocked in two runs against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Castro had an RBI single in the second inning before hitting into a fielder's choice in the fourth inning to drive in another run. The 25-year-old was in the middle of trade discussions this week, but the Cubs are surely hoping he'll breathe a bit easier now that the deadline has passed. He owns a disappointing .237/.271/.304 batting line on the year. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:16 pm
  • Andrus has two-run homer Friday vs. Giants
Elvis Andrus was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Andrus doubled and scored in the first inning before taking Madison Bumgarner deep in the second. He's now up to four home runs and 38 RBI on the year. The 26-year-old has shown some long-awaited signs of life recently, hitting .350 (21-for-60) over his last 15 games. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:51 pm
  • Crawford hits 16th home run in loss
Brandon Crawford launched a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

Advice: It was his 16th home run of the season and his fourth in his last nine games. The 28-year-old has been a surprising force at the shortstop position this season, batting .268/.331/.481 across 99 games. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:51 pm
  • Wilmer Flores plays hero in win over Nats
Wilmer Flores clubbed a walk-off homer in the 12th inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Advice: You couldn't write it up any better. Flores, who cried on the field Wednesday night after believing that he had been traded to the Brewers, drove in both runs for the Mets on Friday night and was the most popular person at Citi Field. After hitting an RBI single in the fourth inning, he took Felipe Rivero deep to lead off the bottom of the 12th to end it. It was a feel-good moment for Flores and for the Mets, who are two games back of the Nationals in the NL East. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:05 pm

  • Escobar has RBI single in loss to Mets
Yunel Escobar drove in the Nationals' only run of the night Friday against the Mets.

Advice: His eighth-inning single off Matt Harvey tied the game, but the Mets eventually won in extras. Escobar went 1-for-5 on the night and has a .312/.360/.410 batting line on the year. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:02 pm
  • Tulo has two hits, two runs scored in win
Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-6 with two runs scored in Friday's extra-inning win over the Royals.

Advice: Tulowitzki singled with one out in the 11th inning and eventually came around to score the winning run on Josh Donaldson's walk-off single. With Devon Travis (shoulder) back on the disabled list, the slugging shortstop appears likely to stick in the leadoff spot for Toronto. Rotoworld.com Friday, 8:42 pm
  • Twins option Danny Santana to Triple-A
Twins optioned INF/OF Danny Santana to Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Santana wasn't much better in his return from Triple-A and owns a troublesome .218/.242/.298 slash line on the season. He'll benefit from playing everyday at the minor league level. Rotoworld.com Friday, 8:19 pm

  • Kang has three hits in win over Reds
Jung Ho Kang went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Reds.

Advice: Kang had two doubles on the night. He continues to swing and incredibly hot bat, hitting .435 (27-for-62) over his last 17 games. His batting average is now up to .299 on the year. Rotoworld.com Friday, 7:30 pm
  • Dodgers place Justin Turner on 15-day DL
Dodgers placed INF Justin Turner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 28, with a skin infection on his right thigh.

Advice: Alex Guerrero and Alberto Callaspo will continue to hold down the fort at the hot corner until Turner is ready to return. He's in the midst of an outstanding season offensively, slashing .323/.387/.563 with 13 homers and 44 RBI in just 254 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Friday, 3:55 pm

  • Lindor batting .329 in his last 18 games
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the A's.

Advice: The rookie shortstop had a three-run homer and four RBI in his last game, Wednesday against the Royals. His fireworks weren't as bright tonight, but this was another promising showing by Lindor, who is really heating up. He's hit safely in 15 of his last 18 games to raise his average from .205 to .264. During that stretch, he's gone 25-for-76 (.329) with 11 runs, 13 RBI, four homers and a .358 OBP. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:44 pm
  • Cubs aggressively trying to move SS Castro
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Cubs are "aggressively trying to include Starlin Castro in any deal."

Advice: It's notable that Addison Russell started at shortstop on Wednesday. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said earlier this week that Castro would not be traded, but that's not a promise he can keep. The 25-year-old is batting just .237/.271/.305 in 406 plate appearances this season and his defense at shortstop has deteriorated. There's been talk of interest from the Padres. • Tulowitzki homers, knocks in 3 in TOR debut
Troy Tulowitzki made his Blue Jays debut and went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in a win against the Phillies on Wednesday.

Advice: What a way to make a debut. He struck out in his first at-bat with his new club, but made up for it with a two-run home run in the third inning. He added an RBI double in the sixth. Tulowitzki now has 13 home runs on the year with 56 RBI along with a .305 average. The Rogers Center is friendly to right-handed hitters, so the move away from Coors Field may not hurt his numbers all that much. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 6:54 pm
  • Wilmer Flores heading to Brewers for Gomez
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Wilmer Flores will head to the Brewers with Zack Wheeler in exchange for outfielder Carlos Gomez.

Advice: It's unclear if he'll be utilized at shortstop for the Mets, or if he'll take over their vacancy at third base. The 23-year-old was hitting .249/.281/.379 with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 92 games with the Mets this season. It's a nice haul for the Brewers in exchange for a year-plus of Gomez. • Troy Tulowitzki hitting leadoff for Blue Jays
Troy Tulowitzki is at shortstop and batting leadoff in his Blue Jays debut Wednesday.

Advice: He might be lower in the order if Devon Travis (shoulder) wasn't hurt, but, unfortunately, that's not the case. It's the first time in Tulowitzki's career that he's hit leadoff. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 12:58 pm
  • Francisco Lindor homers, drives in four runs
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Royals.

Advice: Lindor singled in his first at-bat, hit a sacrifice fly in his second and capped off his day with a three-run homer in the sixth. The shortstop has really turned it up a notch of late, hitting .324 with four homers and 12 RBI over his last 16 games. It was an offensive explosion for the Tribe, as they pounded out 18 hits -- including four home runs -- and 12 runs. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 12:30 pm
  • Starlin Castro not in lineup on Wednesday
Starlin Castro is not in the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

  • Kang blasts game-winning homer against Twins
Jung-Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a game-winning home run as the Pirates outlasted the Twins 8-7 on Tuesday.

Advice: Kang was hit by a pitch and scored in the sixth inning and came up with the game tied in the top of the ninth. Against Twins closer Glen Perkins, Kang launched a solo homer to give the Pirates the lead and ultimately the win. The shortstop has seven multi-hit games in his last nine contests, raising his season line to .289/.367/.426 with six homers and 32 RBI. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:16 pm

Justin Turner is not playing Tuesday due to a pimple on his leg that became infected, necessitating a visit to the emergency room after he had a reaction to medication.

  • Royals pick up Ben Zobrist from Athletics
Royals acquired INF/OF Ben Zobrist and cash considerations from the Athletics for RHP Aaron Brooks and LHP Sean Manaea.

Advice: The deal is official. Zobrist drew interest from a long list of contenders, but the Royals are going for it and paid the price to bring to bring him into the fold. The 34-year-old impending free agent has an .801 OPS over 67 games this season and can be used in the infield and the outfield. He should be a useful piece for Ned Yost and the first-place Royals. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 11:52 am
  • Royals to acquire Ben Zobrist from A's
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals are set to acquire Ben Zobrist from the Athletics.

Advice: Just in case it wasn't already clear after the Johnny Cueto deal, the Royals are going for it. Zobrist was a great fit for any contender because of his versatility and he could play second base or left field for Kansas City. The 34-year-old is batting .268/.354/.447 with six home runs and 33 RBI over 67 games this season. Jeff Passan of Yahoo sports hears that the Royals will send two pitchers back to Oakland in the deal. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 11:32 am
  • A's deep in trade talks regarding Ben Zobrist
Jane Lee of MLB.com reports that the Athletics are "deep" in trade talks involving Ben Zobrist and a deal could happen soon.

Advice: After dealing Scott Kazmir to the Astros last week and Tyler Clippard to the Mets on Monday, Zobrist is likely the next to go. The impending free agent has drawn interest from a long list of teams, including the Royals, Pirates, Angels, Cubs, Yankees, and Giants. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:53 am
  • Blue Jays officially acquire Troy Tulowitzki
Blue Jays acquired SS Troy Tulowitzki and RHP LaTroy Hawkins from the Rockies for SS Jose Reyes and RHPs Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Jesus Tinoco.

Advice: While many expected the Blue Jays to make a big splash for their pitcher, they stunned the baseball world late Monday night by upgrading what was already the best offense in the majors. Tulowitzki has managed to stay mostly healthy this season while batting .300/.348/.471 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI over 87 games. His injury history is a concern, especially on the turf at Rogers Centre, but the 30-year-old could age better in the American League because of the ability to DH. Tulowitzki will receive a $2 million assignment bonus for being traded and his contract now includes a full no-trade clause. He's owed $94 million from 2016-2020 with a $15 million club option or $4 million buyout in 2021. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:06 am
  • Crawford homers as Giants top the Brewers
Brandon Crawford homered and walked in a 1-for-2 effort on Monday as the Giants defeated the Brewers.

Advice: Crawford delivered a two-run home run off of Kyle Lohse in the third inning, pushing the Giants' lead to 3-0. He's on a six-game hitting streak, currently standing with a .270/.336/.481 batting line along with 15 home runs and 61 RBI. Rotoworld.com Monday, 9:56 pm
  • Troy Tulowitzki traded to Jays for Jose Reyes
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Troy Tulowitzki and LaTroy Hawkins have been traded to the Blue Jays for Jose Reyes and minor leaguers.

Advice: Well, how about that for a late-night surprise? Offense certainly wasn't a need for Toronto given that they are leading baseball in runs by a wide margin, but they obviously saw an opportunity to make a strength even stronger. They're also improving their defense with the deal, as Reyes' defense has really gone south. Tulo is under contract through 2020 with a club option for 2021. Reyes might be flipped elsewhere, as dealing Tulo but then taking on Reyes' contract wouldn't mesh with the Rockies' rebuild. Colorado is reportedly set to receive Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro and one other minor leaguer in the deal. Rotoworld.com Monday, 9:32 pm
  • Lindor's three-run homer not enough in a loss
Francisco Lindor slugged a three-run home run in Monday's loss to the Royals, finishing 1-for-5.

Advice: The Indians had fallen behind 9-1 when Lindor brought them back in the game with a three-run home run off of Joe Blanton in the seventh inning. The 21-year-old has hit safely in six straight games and now owns a .260/.297/.377 batting line with four home runs and 15 RBI since making his major league debut on June 14. Rotoworld.com Monday, 7:17 pm
  • Pads have discussed Starlin Castro with Cubs
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Padres have discussed Starlin Castro with the Cubs.

Advice: Morosi adds that the Cubs have inquired on the Padres' starters and he opines that a Castro-for-James Shields swap might make some sense. Castro has been a colossal disappointment with the Cubs this season, hitting just .233/.268/.302 with five homers. He's under contract through 2019 and the Cubs would probably love to use him as a trade chip this week to get pitching help. Rotoworld.com Monday, 3:33 pm
  • Mets asked Braves about Andrelton Simmons
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Mets asked the Braves about the availability of shortstop Andrelton Simmons, but "the conversation went nowhere."

Advice: Olney says Atlanta "placed an unreachable price tag" on the 25-year-old. Simmons hasn't developed offensively as quickly as many were hoping, but he's a generational type of talent defensively and the kind of player the rebuilding Braves want to build around. Simmons is under contract with Atlanta through 2020 at some fairly reasonable rates. Rotoworld.com Monday, 7:44 am
  • KC staying locked in on Ben Zobrist market
Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are planning to stay locked in on the Ben Zobrist trade talks "until the end."

Advice: Zobrist is a fit for just about every contending team because of his defensive versatility, so it's anyone's guess at this point where he's going to wind up after the July 31 trade deadline. Kansas City made the biggest splash yet with its weekend acquisition of Reds ace Johnny Cueto, but McCullough notes that the club still has shoppable prospects. If it wasn't already apparent, the Royals are going all-in. Rotoworld.com Monday, 6:27 am
  • Jhonny Peralta sitting out on Sunday

  • Yunel Escobar (wrist) in Nats' lineup on Sat.
Yunel Escobar (wrist) is in the Nationals' starting lineup Saturday night against the Pirates.

Advice: It looked like Escobar suffered a serious hand or wrist injury on a couple of check swings Wednesday, but he only wound up missing two games. Escobar is batting cleanup and starting third base in his return Saturday. Rotoworld.com Jul 25, 1:30 pm
  • Mets made push for Tulo, doubtful he's moved
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets made a push for Troy Tulowitzki but came away with the impression that the Rockies will not move him.

Advice: The Mets have the kind of young pitchers the Rockies should be trying to stockpile, but there has been no indication from the Colorado front office that Tulo is on the block. And it seems the Mets have now moved on to other offensive targets like Ben Zobrist, Jay Bruce, and Justin Upton. Tulowitzki, 30, is under contract with the Rockies through at least 2020. The 30-year-old has hit safely in six straight games and continues to have a fantastic year. He's batting .327 with 13 home runs and a .958 OPS. Rotoworld.com Jul 24, 7:04 pm

Yunel Escobar (wrist) was able to take some swings in the batting cages on Friday and could be available off the bench against the Pirates.

Advice: He still needs another day or two before returning to the starting lineup, but should be able to do so before the end of the weekend. Dan Uggla is starting at second base for the Nats on Friday and batting eighth against Jeff Locke. Rotoworld.com Jul 24, 2:29 pm

Yunel Escobar (wrist) remained out of the Nationals' lineup Friday.

Yunel Escobar (hand, wrist) is available to play Thursday.

Advice: Escobar left Wednesday's game after tweaking his left hand/wrist on a swing, but X-rays and a CT scan both came back negative. He's not in the lineup Thursday, but it doesn't sound like he'll need to miss much time. Rotoworld.com Jul 23, 2:47 pm
