  • Freddie Freeman exits with undisclosed injury
Freddie Freeman left Monday's game against the Giants with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: He didn't suffer an obvious injury but was replaced at first base by Chris Johnson in the top of the fifth inning. The worry has to be that Freeman re-injured his right wrist, but the Braves should offer more on his status later Monday. 55 minutes ago
  • Kipnis (shoulder) expected to miss 2-3 weeks
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Jason Kipnis (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

Advice: Kipnis tried to battle through a sore right shoulder for a few days, but the Indians finally placed him on the disabled list Monday. He doesn't have any structural damage, but it's an ailment that's bothered Kipnis off and on for a good chunk of the season. Mike Aviles is likely to receive the bulk of the playing time at second base while Kipnis is out. Today, 4:46 pm

  • Jason Kipnis (shoulder) placed on 15-day DL
Indians placed 2B Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 2, with right shoulder inflammation.

Advice: Kipnis tried playing through the ailment for a few days, receiving starts in the designated hitter spot, but the club has decided it's best to go ahead and shut him down for a while. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Jose Ramirez has taken his spot on the roster and should see some time at second base along with Mike Aviles while Kipnis is sidelined. • Albert Pujols sitting out on Monday
Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Monday.

Advice: It's a rare day off for the slugger. C.J. Cron is at first base in Pujols' place, while David Murphy is in the designated hitter spot. Today, 3:19 pm
  • Angel Pagan (knees) scratched from lineup
Angel Pagan was scratched from Monday's lineup due to soreness in both knees.

Advice: Pagan had an issue with his left knee back in June and not only is it sore again but apparently his right one is, as well. "It's really evident," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. The skipper indicated that it will likely be a multi-day absence for Pagan. Gregor Blanco is in center field Monday and Nori Aoki is in the leadoff spot. Today, 2:42 pm
  • Matt Szczur recalled from Triple-A
Cubs recalled OF Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Szczur sports an ugly .211/.246/.316 batting line during his time in the majors this season. He'll back up at all three outfield spots. Today, 2:36 pm
  • A's activate Coco Crisp from disabled list
Athletics activated OF Coco Crisp from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Crisp is finally ready to give it a go again after being sidelined since mid-May with his ongoing neck issue. He had only two hits in 45 at-bats before going on the disabled list and remains a major health risk going forward. However, the A's plan to start him in left field and bat him second in the lineup as long as he's able to stay on the field. Today, 2:23 pm

  • Josh Donaldson hits 27th home run of season
Josh Donaldson went 2-for-4 with a home run Monday in the Blue Jays' victory over the Twins.

Advice: Donaldson doubled in the bottom of the first inning and and then cranked a two-run shot off Twins starter Ervin Santana in the bottom of the fifth. The 29-year-old third baseman is sporting a tremendous .916 OPS with 27 home runs and 77 RBI in 105 games this season for the Blue Jays, who are now tied with Minnesota for the second American League Wild Card spot. Today, 12:58 pm
  • Blue Jays outright Ezequiel Carrera to AAA
Blue Jays sent OF Ezequiel Carrera outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Carrera was designated for assignment by the Jays on Saturday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old outfielder is a .259/.311/.349 career hitter. Today, 12:46 pm

  • Kris Bryant (head) in Cubs' lineup on Monday
Kris Bryant (head) is in the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday night against the Pirates.

Advice: Bryant made an early exit from Sunday's series finale against the Brewers after experiencing some lightheadedness. A concussion was ruled out after testing. Today, 12:33 pm
  • Marlins recall Tomas Telis from AAA NOLA
Marlins recalled C Tomas Telis from Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: Telis was just acquired from the Rangers at the July 31 trade deadline. He probably won't see much action behind the plate in Miami and can be ignored in fantasy leagues. Today, 12:22 pm
  • White Sox release catcher George Kottaras
White Sox released C George Kottaras.

Advice: The well-traveled veteran catcher was batting .247/.403/.505 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in 31 games for the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox. Kottaras should be able to latch on with another club rather quickly. Today, 12:15 pm

  • Athletics pick up Danny Valencia off waivers
Athletics claimed INF/OF Danny Valencia off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Advice: Valencia was designated for assignment by Toronto in a somewhat surprising move after the July 31 trade deadline. He's having a very good season and drew interest from a range of teams (including the White Sox, Rangers, and Orioles) on the waiver wire. The 30-year-old probably isn't going to carry a ton of fantasy value in Oakland. Today, 12:06 pm

  • Difo comes through with career-high five hits
Nationals SS prospect Wilmer Difo contributed a career-high five hits in Sunday's win for Double-A Harrisburg.

Advice: He also stole a career-high four bases. Difo entered Sunday's game just two for his last 16. Few could have predicted Difo's meteoric rise through the Washington farm system. He began the year at High-A Potomac and has already seen time with the Nationals this season. The 23-year-old has hit .283 with a .332 on base percentage in 300 minor league at-bats this year. • Joe Mauer out of Twins' lineup on Monday
Joe Mauer is not in the Twins' starting lineup on Monday afternoon against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Mauer gets a day off with the Twins taking on new Blue Jays left-hander David Price. Trevor Plouffe is starting at first base and batting third at Toronto's Rogers Centre. Eduardo Nunez is handling the hot corner. Today, 7:44 am

  • Sandoval (forearm) served as pinch-hitter
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) struck out as a pinch-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: Sandoval hasn't started a game since taking a pitch off his left forearm last Thursday evening. He just has a bruise and should be good to go this week. Today, 5:11 am
  • ChiSox, Rangers, O's interested in Valencia
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the White Sox, Rangers and Orioles have emerged as the most likely destinations for Danny Valencia.

Advice: In a bit of a surprise move, Valencia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Saturday. He is expected to be claimed off trade waivers on Monday, which will give the Jays an opportunity to deal him. Valencia is having a terrific season, slashing .296/.331/.506 with seven long balls and 29 RBI in his 162 at-bats. Yesterday, 5:16 pm

  • Pagan's ninth inning double not enough
Angel Pagan went 1-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Pagan doubled off of locked-in Rangers starter Martin Perez with one out in the ninth inning. He would score on a Buster Posey RBI single, but the Giants were unable to complete a winning rally, as they fell by a score of 2-1. Pagan is hitting a light .264/.297/.317 with no home runs, 25 RBI, 37 runs scored and six steals this season. Yesterday, 4:02 pm
  • Kris Bryant to be re-evaluated on Monday
Kris Bryant exited Sunday's game against the Brewers as a precautionary measure due to dizziness.

Advice: Bryant injured himself when sliding headfirst into second base. He went through the concussion protocol without any issues and will be re-evaluated on Monday. He's considered day-to-day. Yesterday, 2:52 pm
  • Kris Bryant leaves game with head/neck injury
Kris Bryant left Sunday's game against the Brewers with an apparent injury to his head/neck area.

Advice: Bryant injured himself on a head-first slide into second base. He was able to walk off the field under his own power and looked to be OK, so perhaps the Cubs were just being cautious here. They should offer more on the third baseman's status later Sunday. Yesterday, 12:55 pm
  • Coco Crisp (neck) to be activated Monday
Coco Crisp (neck) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

Advice: Crisp has been out since late May with his chronic neck injury. He had just two hits in 45 at-bats before going on the disabled list and is a poor bet to remain healthy over a long period of time. A's manager Bob Melvin did note that he plans to hit Crisp second, though, which helps make him an interesting gamble in deeper leagues. Yesterday, 11:47 am

  • Kipnis (shoulder) could land on disabled list
The Indians are considering placing Jason Kipnis (shoulder) on the disabled list.

Advice: Kipnis is not playing Sunday after being limited to designated hitter duty of late because of soreness in his right shoulder. The results of an MRI he had Sunday haven't been revealed, but it's evidently bad enough that the club thinks the second baseman could need at least a couple weeks off. Manager Terry Francona said he would talk things over with the medical staff and general manager Chris Antonetti before a decision is made. Yesterday, 11:08 am

  • Pablo Sandoval (forearm) out again Sunday
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He hasn't played since being hit on the left forearm by a pitch on Thursday. Sandoval remains day-to-day and should have a shot to return Tuesday after Monday's off day. Travis Shaw is at third base Sunday. Yesterday, 7:06 am
  • Jason Kipnis dealing with sore shoulder
Jason Kipnis will DH Saturday against the Athletics because of a sore right shoulder.

Advice: Kipnis was also the DH for Friday's game. The injury doesn't sound serious but it's something to keep an eye on. Utility man Mike Aviles is starting at second base for the Tribe on Saturday. Saturday, 6:06 pm

  • Jays designate Danny Valencia for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF/OF Danny Valencia for assignment.

Advice: With all of the recent acquisitions that the Blue Jays have made, they were forced to make a few tough decisions on their roster and it appears that Valencia is the odd-man out. The lefty-masher was hitting .296/.331/.506 overall with seven homers and 29 RBI in 162 at-bats. He should attract interest from plenty of teams looking to upgrade their bench. Saturday, 7:17 am

Blue Jays designated OF Ezequiel Carrera for assignment.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder had done a nice job in limited time for the Jays, hitting .279/.327/.374 with three homers and 21 RBI in 70 games. He could attract some interest on waivers. Saturday, 7:15 am

  • Donaldson has four RBI, including walk-off
Josh Donaldson drove in four runs in Friday's 7-6 win over the Royals, including a walk-off RBI single in the 11th.

Advice: Donaldson had a two-run double in the third inning before knocking in another run with a double in the seventh. The game-winning rally in the 11th was set up after Troy Tulowitzki reached on a one-out single and moved over to second base on a balk by Franklin Morales. Donaldson then laced a single to left field to end it. The 29-year-old continues to have a monster year, batting .295/.358/.550 with 25 homers and 73 RBI. Friday, 8:46 pm
  • Freeman belts 14th homer in loss to Phillies
Freddie Freeman belted his 14th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: The Phillies jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in this one, and Freeman's two-run shot in the eighth merely made it a 9-3 ballgame. He also singled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-4 and raising his season slash to .288/.354/.509 to go along with 14 bombs and 45 RBI. Friday, 7:30 pm
  • Coco Crisp to remain on rehab through weekend
Coco Crisp (neck) will remain on his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Stockton throughout the weekend.

Advice: He is scheduled to play in games on Friday and Saturday before being re-evaluated by the Athletics medical staff on Sunday. If all goes well, there's a chance that he could rejoin the A's lineup on Monday. Friday, 4:03 pm

  • Marlins get Tomas Telis from Rangers
Marlins acquired C Tomas Telis and LHP Cody Ege from the Rangers in exchange for RHP Sam Dyson; optioned Telis to Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: Telis has hit only .241/.268/.266 in his chances in the majors so far but is a career .291/.325/.400 batter in the minors. He could be J.T. Realmuto's long-term backup. Friday, 2:05 pm
  • Pablo Sandoval (forearm) not in lineup
Pablo Sandoval (forearm) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Advice: Sandoval was hit on the left forearm by a pitch on Thursday. He merely has a bruise and should be fine in a day or two. Josh Rutledge is filling in at third base. Friday, 12:22 pm
  • Josh Donaldson hits 25th homer in victory
Josh Donaldson collected his 25th homer and his 26th double as the Jays beat the Royals 5-2 on Thursday.

Advice: Donaldson has four homers in 12 games since the All-Star break. Mike Trout might end up running away from the crowd in the AL MVP race, but it'll be a surprise if Donaldson isn't in the top three or five when all is said and done. Thursday, 8:49 pm
  • Sandoval diagnosed with forearm contusion
Pablo Sandoval is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left forearm contusion.

Advice: Sandoval was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch. It appears as though he didn't sustain any structural damage though and should be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend. Thursday, 6:53 pm
  • Pablo Sandoval leaves after hit by pitch
Pablo Sandoval was removed from Thursday's game against the White Sox after being hit in the wrist/forearm area by a Chris Sale pitch.

Advice: Sandoval actually struck out swinging at the pitch, literally adding insult to injury. He'll presumably head for X-rays to rule out any fractures. The Red Sox should have an update on his status shortly. Thursday, 6:17 pm
  • Kris Bryant not in Thursday's lineup
Kris Bryant is not in Thursday's lineup against the Brewers.

Advice: He's just getting a day off. Chris Coghlan will fill in at third base and bat third. Thursday, 1:01 pm
  • Farrell admits Sandoval's weight is an issue
Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged Wednesday that Pablo Sandoval's weight is an issue.

Advice: It's the first time Farrell has addressed this topic since spring training, when he was in full support of Boston's new acquisition. The burly third baseman got thrown out at home on a ball he should have scored on Wednesday night against the White Sox and had to be lifted from the game two innings later due to dehydration. "There are ongoing efforts to support that, to try to get him in the best shape possible," said Farrell. "That's something Pablo has dealt with his entire career. It continues to be addressed." Thursday, 5:37 am
  • Pujols swats 30th homer but Angels still lose
Albert Pujols went yard for the 30th time this year, but the Angels wound up losing on Wednesday to the Astros by a 6-3 score.

Advice: Pujols did his part in attempting to spur a comeback, clubbing a solo home run in the ninth inning against Luke Gregerson to make it 6-2, but the Halos ultimately fell short. He went 1-for-4 on the night. Pujols is one homer shy of Mike Trout's 31 for the major league lead. He's also knocked in 64 runs while hitting .260/.323/.539. Wednesday, 8:11 pm
  • Angel Pagan not in lineup Wednesday
Angel Pagan is not in the Giants' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: It's a simple day off. Gregor Blanco is in center field while Pagan rests. Wednesday, 10:28 am
  • Kipnis has 3 hits, wasted in loss to Royals
Jason Kipnis went 3-for-4 with a double, but the Indians dropped Tuesday's contest to the Royals.

Advice: Kipnis couldn't be brought around to score as the Indians' 2-5 hitters combined to go 2-for-14. The Indians have dropped six games in a row, averaging 1.7 runs per game. But it's not the fault of Kipnis, who has an outstanding .330/.405/.485 triple-slash line on the year. Tuesday, 7:40 pm

  • Sandoval hits eighth homer against White Sox
Pablo Sandoval went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Sandoval's two-run blast against White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija in the second inning was all the offense the Red Sox could muster until the ninth inning. The two-hit game was Sandoval's third in a row, raising his line to .263/.307/.382 with eight homers and 34 RBI. Tuesday, 7:31 pm
  • Freeman homers early, Braves defeated by O's
Freddie Freeman went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run on Tuesday as the Braves lost 7-3 to the Orioles.

Advice: Freeman, playing in his fourth game since being activated from the disabled list, staked the Braves to a 2-0 lead when he drilled a two-run home run off of Ubaldo Jimenez in the first inning. He's now 2-for-14 since being activated, but still owns a terrific .291/.359/.511 batting line along with 13 home runs and 43 RBI. Tuesday, 7:17 pm
  • Bryant drills a walk-off 2-run homer vs. COL
Kris Bryant delivered a walk-off two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Cubs overtake the Rockies on Monday.

Advice: Rafael Soriano blew the save in the top half of the ninth inning, allowing four runs to put the Cubs down 8-7. Kris Bryant picked up his teammate, victimizing Rockies closer John Axford for a two-run bomb to left-center. He hit an RBI single as part of a six-run fourth inning as well. The rookie has done well thus far, batting .254/.358/.453 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI. Monday, 8:45 pm
  • Kipnis (neck) goes 0-for-4 in return Sat.
Jason Kipnis (neck) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday in his return to the Indians' lineup.

Advice: Kipnis was held out of action on Saturday due to some mild stiffness in his neck. It obviously isn't a big deal. The second baseman is slashing .321/.397/.476 in what has otherwise been a frustrating year for Cleveland. Jul 27, 5:54 am

  • Donaldson hits solo homer in loss to Mariners
Josh Donaldson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 10-inning, 6-5 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Donaldson launched the solo shot off Mariners starter Taijuan Walker in the first inning. It would be his only hit of the game, though he also knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. He's on the short-list of AL MVP candidates this season and is currently slashing .289/.351/.539 with 24 homers and 68 RBI. The slugger's even stolen three bases. Jul 26, 4:55 pm
  • Coco Crisp (neck) to begin rehab assignment
Coco Crisp (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton on Monday.

Advice: He's slated to play for games there before being re-evaluated, so it sounds like Crisp could be activated by the end of the week. The veteran outfielder has been on the shelf since late May with a nagging neck issue. He had just two hits in 45 at-bats before going on the disabled list. Jul 26, 11:15 am

Jason Kipnis is out of the Indians' starting lineup on Saturday night because of a stiff neck.

  • Braves activate Freddie Freeman from DL
Braves activated 1B Freddie Freeman from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Freeman has been sidelined since June 18 due to a bone bruise in his wrist, but the club apparently feels that he's ready to return without a lengthy minor league rehab assignment. Before hitting the DL, the 25-year-old slugger was hitting .299/.367/.520 with 12 homers and 41 RBI in 66 games. Jul 25, 12:14 pm
  • Coco Crisp (neck) could begin rehab soon
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Coco Crisp (neck) has been feeling better in recent days and could begin a minor league rehab assignment soon.

Advice: Crisp has been taking batting practice since Tuesday without any issues. The oft-injured outfielder has been limited to just 13 games this season due to a wide variety of ailments. He's likely going to require a lengthy rehab stint, and if he comes through it healthy could rejoin the A's at some point in early August. Jul 24, 5:26 pm
