Rockies extend Ezequiel Tovar with seven-year deal
Rockies and SS Ezequiel Tovar agreed to a seven-year contract extension with a club option for the 2031 season.
Advice: The news of an extension came over the weekend, but now the team is making it official. The Rockies’ press release did not mention the dollars for the contract, but reports are that the 22-year-old could earn up to $84 million if the team decides to exercise the option. “He has already proven he is one of the best shortstops in baseball, and we see him as a cornerstone of this franchise for years to come,” said Rockies Senior VP president and GM Bill Schmidt. In his first full season with the Rockies, Tovar slashed 253/.287/.408 with 15 homers, 73 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 615 plate appearances.
