    • Jordan Hicks lifted in fifth versus Astros
Jordan Hicks yielded three runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Hicks didn’t have his usual velocity tonight, averaging 93.0 mph with his sinker. That’s down 1.9 mph from his season average and 3.2 mph from his start six days ago. Last time this happened, it was blamed on an illness, and Hicks’ velocity returned to normal his next time out. We’ll have to wait and see what the reasoning is this time. • Singer allows six earned runs in loss to Yankees
Brady Singer allowed six earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out six in Tuesday’s loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Singer gave up two runs in the first inning, but it was a four-run fourth that caused most of the damage. Gleyber Torres singled in the fourth to drive in Alex Verdugo, but a three-run homer by Alex Wells on the ensuing at-bat put this one well out of reach. Singer has allowed five or more runs in just two of his 13 outings this season and will look to rebound in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Dodgers. • Goes 4.2 innings vs. Tigers
Parker allowed four unearned runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against Detroit. He stuck out one.

Advice: Parker held the Tigers scoreless through his first four innings, though he'd ultimately allow four unearned runs in the fifth following his own error. While Parker wasn't at his best Tuesday, the rookie left-hander has still yet to allow more than three earned runs in 11 starts this season. His ERA is down to 3.21 with a 1.09 WHIP and 46:15 K:BB across 61.2 innings. Parker is currently in line to face the Marlins at home in his next outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:29 pm
    • Mitchell Parker allows four unearned runs vs. Tigers
Mitchell Parker was charged with four runs (zero earned) over five innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Parker allowed four runs for the first time in 11 starts to open his big-league career, but none of them wound up being earned as all of the damage came following his own fielding error with two outs in the fifth inning. He finished with one strikeout and also issued three walks. He’ll bring a respectable 3.21 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 46/15 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings (11 starts) into a favorable home matchup on Sunday against the Marlins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:35 pm
    • Yariel Rodríguez strikes out 10 in rehab outing
Yariel Rodríguez (back) struck out 10 over four shutout innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Rodríguez scattered three hits and one walk, needing an economical 67 pitches (46 strikes) to navigate four frames. The 27-year-old righty has made a handful of rehab appearances so far and figures to be ready to return to Toronto’s pitching mix as a multi-inning relief weapon at some point in the near future. There isn’t a ton of fantasy appeal in that limited role from a volume standpoint, but the strikeouts and ratios should be stellar enough to help out in deeper mixed leagues. • Hitting IL with neck strain
Brown will be placed on the injured list with a left neck strain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Brown has been dealing with the strain over the last few weeks and will head back to Chicago to undergo more testing. The severity of the injury is unclear but we should learn more in the coming days. Jordan Wicks is the primary candidate to take Brown's spot in the rotation, while Colten Brewer (back) should join the bullpen after being reinstated from the 15-day IL. • Cubs place Ben Brown on 15-day IL with neck strain
Cubs placed RHP Ben Brown on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain.

Advice: Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network adds Brown has been battling the neck issue for the last few weeks and has been sent back to Chicago to undergo additional testing to determine the severity of the issue. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this week. The 24-year-old righty has been a bright spot this season for the Cubs with a stellar 3.58 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 64/19 K/BB ratio across 55 1/3 innings (15 appearances, eight starts) so far. • Unlikely to pitch again in 2024
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said prior to Monday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays that Gasser (elbow) is unlikely to return from the injured list this season, Steve Megargee of the Associated Press reports. "[Wade] Miley, Gasser and [Brandon Woodruff], you're probably not going to see," Murphy said. "It would probably be safe to say those three are out for the year."

Advice: Gasser was placed on the IL on June 5 with a left flexor strain, and though the rookie hasn't yet settled on a treatment plan for the injury, Murphy said that he's pessimistic Gasser will pitch again this season regardless of whether he undergoes surgery or opts for more extended rest and rehab. Since sustaining the injury coming out of his June 1 start against the White Sox, Gasser has sought two medical opinions on his elbow and is set to get another in the coming days when he meets with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas. According to Murphy, one of the doctors has recommended that Gasser undergo a reconstruction surgery for the elbow, but it's unclear if the second opinion Gasser received from Dr. Neal ElAttrache concurred with that assessment. The Brewers will likely provide an update on how Gasser plans to treat the injury after Dr. Meister gets a chance to evaluate his elbow. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:47 am

    • Earns seventh straight win
Rodon (9-2) earned the win against the Royals on Monday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts over seven innings.

Advice: Rodon cruised through the majority of the game, with a two-out RBI single by Freddy Fermin in the seventh inning being his only blemish. While Rodon only struck out three, he generated 14 swinging strikes and didn't allow any extra-base hits. Each of Rodon's seven consecutive wins have also been quality starts, and he has now completed at least six innings in 10 of his 14 outings. He owns a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 74:20 K:BB on the season and will look to continue his win streak against the Red Sox on Saturday. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:04 pm
