    • Matt Waldron knuckles his way to third win
      Matt Waldron struck out eight over seven innings Tuesday in the Padres’ 4-0 shutout of the Marlins.

      Advice: He moved to 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA. Waldron threw his knuckleball 27% of the time last season and was at 36% percent this season coming into the night. Against the Marlins, though, he used it a career-high 55% of the time and induced 11 of his 15 missed swings on the night. We’re still not overly impressed by the pitch, but the league is awfully unfamiliar at dealing with knuckleballs these days.     • Jesús Luzardo takes loss following quality start
      Jesús Luzardo lost Tuesday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Padres.

      Advice: Even a third straight scoreless outing wouldn’t have gotten Luzardo a win tonight, as the Marlins were shut out by the Padres. At this point, Luzardo is just playing out the string until an inevitable midseason trade. He’ll take a 2-4 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start versus the Rays.     • Gets out of jam for ninth save
      Duran picked up the save Tuesday against Kansas City, allowing two hits and no walks with a strikeout over one scoreless inning.

      Advice: Duran surrendered a leadoff double to Salvador Perez and then a single to Adam Frazier, putting runners on the corners with no outs in the ninth. However, pinch-runner Dairon Blanco was caught stealing second and Duran retired MJ Melendez and Nick Loftin back-to-back to keep the Royals off the scoreboard. After taking back-to-back losses in the middle of May, Duran has rebounded with five straight saves, yielding one earned run across 4.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:37 pm
       
    • Limits damage in loss
      Ragans (4-4) took the loss Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Ragans stranded a runner in all five of his innings pitched and had a difficult time getting through a Twins lineup that featured seven righties and a pair of switch hitters. The southpaw relied heavily on his ability to miss bats, inducing 14 whiffs and generating seven or more strikeouts for the fifth time in his last six starts.     • Dealing with swollen finger
      X-rays on Lindor's left index finger came back negative after he injured it on a bunt attempt during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

      Advice: Despite injuring his finger during the first game of Tuesday's action, Lindor was still able to play in the nightcap and go 1-for-4. The 30-year-old shortstop is dealing with a bit of swelling in his finger, so it's possible he sits down for a day or two until the swelling goes down; however, a long-term absence seems unlikely.     • Jhoan Duran picks up eighth save vs. Royals
      Jhoan Duran earned his eighth save of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Royals.

      Advice: Back-to-back hits to kick off the ninth got Duran in trouble early, but he was able to buckle down and retire his remaining batters to earn the win for the Twins, who have now won six of their last seven.     • Francisco Lindor dealing with left finger injury
      Francisco Lindor is dealing with a left index finger contusion.

      Advice: The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative on Lindor’s finger after he hurt it attempting a bunt during Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Dodgers.     • Cole Ragans allows three earned runs in loss
      Cole Ragans allowed nine hits and three earned runs over five innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

      Advice: Ragans ran into trouble in the first inning when he allowed back-to-back hits to his first two batters faced, only to see both players score on a Jose Miranda single a few batters later. Ragans would allow another run in the fourth on a Manuel Margot double, as the left was hit around for much of the evening. His nine hits allowed tied for the second-most he’s allowed on the season, as Ragans has struggled at times to limit base runners despite a solid 3.49 ERA. He walked 30 batters while walking eight this month and is scheduled to make his next start on Sunday against the Padres. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm
       
    • Luis Robert Jr. (hip) homers Tuesday at Triple-A
      Luis Robert Jr. (hip) belted a solo homer on Tuesday in a minor league rehab contest for Triple-A Charlotte.

      Advice: Robert made some noise right away in his first rehab contest at the Triple-A level with a towering blast in his first at-bat of the night. He finished 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart will likely get a couple more rehab games under his belt before returning to Chicago, but he’s not far away at this juncture.
