      Matt Waldron allowed one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a win over the Phillies.

      Advice: Waldron was extremely impressive on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, finishing with six strikeouts and only handing out a pair of free passes. His lone mistake came in the third inning when he left a sinker out over the plate to Phillies superstar Bryce Harper, who promptly deposited it into the left-field grandstand. The 27-year-old knuckleballer has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts dating back to May 11. He’ll bring a rapidly-improving 3.46 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 76/25 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (15 starts) into a favorable home outing on Monday against the Nationals.       Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

      Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing.
