    • Happ moves into the No. 2 hole Friday
Ian Happ will bat second for the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: With Seiya Suzuki getting the day off, Happ will occupy the No. 2 spot in the order for the Cubs. He hit a solo home run on Thursday, but now draws a tough assignment against Pirates top pitching prospect Paul Skenes on Friday afternoon. Rotoworld 42 minutes ago

    • Collects third win
Jones (3-4) picked up the win over the Cubs on Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven over six innings.

Advice: Jones allowed hits in four of his six innings of work, including a solo homer off the bat of Ian Happ to lead off the second. However, the right-hander still managed to log his third consecutive quality start while also posting at least seven strikeouts for the seventh time in nine outings this season. Jones produced 15 swings and misses on the night, though his seven hits allowed marked a season high. He's now won just two of his last six decisions despite carrying a 2.89 ERA on the campaign. • Happ leaves the yard Thursday
Ian Happ went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Pirates on Thursday.

Advice: The homer was just Happ’s second of the year. It has undeniably been a down year for the 29-year-old outfielder. His power has cratered as his ISO is just .100 compared to his career .198 ISO. Most of Happ’s utility comes from playing everyday. He’s played 158 games in each of the last two seasons. Last season was his best year as he was able to compile 21 home runs, 86 runs scored, 84 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. He won’t be able to reach those numbers this season, but his $20 million average annual value should still keep him in the lineup everyday.

    • Jones with another quality start Thursday
Jared Jones allowed three earned runs, struck out seven in six innings and picked up the win in the Pirates’ 5-4 victory against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Jones was top notch once again and earned his third win of the season. He induced 15 whiffs and had a 29 percent CSW on the night. His ERA is 2.89 on the season. Jones is pretty easily a top 20 starting pitcher for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old right-hander is set to face the Giants at home in his next start.

    • Gavin Williams (elbow) throws 50-pitch bullpen
Gavin Williams (elbow) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: The positive news here is that Williams didn’t experience any discomfort in his first bullpen session since receiving an anti-inflammatory injection earlier this month to address right elbow discomfort. He’s scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Friday before the club determines his next steps. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:18 pm

    • Pilfers 14th bag
Young went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Getting another start in the leadoff spot, Young swiped his 14th bag of the season, tying him for fifth in the majors behind Elly De La Cruz (26), Jose Caballero (17), Brice Turang (16) and Bobby Witt (15). Young only has two successful steals through 12 games in May though, as his issues getting on base consistently are catching up to him -- he's slashing only .167/.295/.222 on the month. The Nationals have been shut out in back-to-back games and sit in the bottom six in runs scored and team OPS on the season, and unless Young heats up at the plate, his time at the top of the order is likely about to end. • Fans two for seventh save
Doval earned the save over the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Doval entered the game with a three-run lead in the ninth and quickly retired the first two batters on strikes before walking Mookie Betts and surrendering a single to Shohei Ohtani. However, the right-hander was able to get Freddie Freeman to ground out for the final out and notch his seventh save in as many chances. Doval has also recorded two strikeouts in three straight appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:24 am

    • Homer, two hits in win
Ward went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over St. Louis.

Advice: Ward jumped on a four-seamer from Nick Robertson in the bottom of the seventh and sent it into the stands in left field for a leadoff home run, giving the outfielder his first long ball this month and his eighth overall on the season. Ward also recorded a single in the contest, marking his fourth multi-hit game in May, during which he's now batting .261 with three RBI and six runs scored. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:34 am

    • Fans nine in no-decision
Pfaadt came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Reds, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: The right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes on 93 pitches in one of his best performances of the season, and his only real mistake resulted in a Santiago Espinal solo shot in the fifth inning. Pfaadt extended his quality start streak to four with the effort, a stretch in which he's posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB through 25 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, but he'll face a tough test on the road early next week against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:09 am
