  • Crawford hits two-run triple in win over Reds
Brandon Crawford went 3-for-5 with a two-run triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Advice: Crawford raced around the bases for a two-run triple in the seventh inning. The three-bagger was his fifth of the season. He also hit a pair of singles in the contest. For the season, the 29-year-old shortstop is slashing .275/.344/.433 with nine homers and 63 RBI over 342 at-bats. He has been an integral cog in the Giants machine this season. Yesterday, 10:45 pm
  • Brad Miller notches RBI double in loss to LAD
Brad Miller went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Miller hit a run-scoring double off Joe Blanton in the eighth inning. The Rays would ultimately bring home two runs in the frame, but wouldn't score again as they fell by a score of 3-2. For the season as a whole, Miller has quietly put together a nice campaign, slashing .244/.292/.457 with 15 homers, 37 RBI and four steals over 324 at-bats. Yesterday, 10:20 pm
  • Semien hits 21st homer in win over Rangers
Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: Semien connected for a solo dinger off Rangers starter Nick Martinez in the fifth inning, his 21st big fly of the year. That's easily a personal best for the 25-year-old, who will also set a new high for RBI in a season this year. Overall, Semien is hitting .236/.303/.460 with 49 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine steals. Yesterday, 9:49 pm
  • Gonzalez homers twice in loss to Yankees
Marwin Gonzalez hit two home runs in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Gonzalez was one of the only Astros hitters able to get anything done against CC Sabathia and company, taking Sabathia deep for a solo dinger in the first inning before tacking on a one-run shot in the eighth for good measure. The homers gave Gonzalez 10 on the year to go with 28 RBI and 40 runs scored. The 27-year-old is hitting .256/.295/.426 overall. Yesterday, 8:54 pm

  • Lindor's walk-off single completes comeback
Francisco Lindor finished 3-for-5 including a game-winning, walk-off single as the Indians came back to beat the Nationals 7-6 on Tuesday.

Advice: With the bases loaded and one out, Lindor hit an Oliver Perez pitch just past a drawn-in infield to give the Indians the victory. It capped a good night at the dish for the 22-year-old, who now has multiple hits in four of his last six games. Lindor has been one of the most productive all-around hitters in the league to this point, batting .307/.362/.460 with 12 homers, 50 RBI, 68 runs scored and 13 steals. Yesterday, 8:25 pm
  • Jose Reyes diagnosed with intercostal strain
Jose Reyes has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 intercostal strain.

Advice: Reyes went to a local hospital for tests after feeling a muscle tweak on his final swing of Tuesday afternoon's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals -- part of a traditional doubleheader at Citi Field. He did not play in the night game (a 3-1 win) and the Mets are expecting him to miss at least a couple of days. This could easily turn into a DL situation. Yesterday, 8:04 pm
    4:10 pm vs StL
  • Gyorko homers in both halves of DH again
Jedd Gyorko homered in both halves of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Advice: He also homered in both halves of a doubleheader last Wednesday versus the Padres and he now has seven home runs in his last nine games. Gyorko probably isn't going to finish this season with an .800-plus OPS -- it's at .814 right now -- but he does have pretty good power and he's probably going to keep playing regularly for St. Louis. There's reason to grab him and start him in deeper mixed leagues. Yesterday, 7:57 pm

  • Nunez steals two more bases against Braves
Eduardo Nunez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Advice: Nunez' overall numbers have declined since his All-Star first half, but the 29-year-old is still contributing with his legs. Nunez now has 26 steals on the year, most in the American League. He's hitting .298/.326/.445 in 89 games. Yesterday, 7:52 pm
  • Bregman at DH in second major league game
Alex Bregman is at DH and batting sixth Tuesday in his second major league game.

Advice: Bregman finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Monday in his MLB debut, but he came a few feet short of a grand slam in the sixth inning and looked sharp defensively at third base. He could play left field Wednesday. Yesterday, 1:22 pm
  • Indians expressing interest in Eduardo Nunez
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Indians have expressed interest in Eduardo Nunez of the Twins.

Advice: Nunez has been in a steady state of regression for a couple of months, but he's still enjoying the best year of his career by far, batting .298/.324/.446 with 12 home runs, 46 RBI, and 24 stolen bases in 88 games. The 29-year-old can also play all around the diamond defensively, which fits well with this current Cleveland roster. Nunez is making $1.48 million in 2016 and carries one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2017. Yesterday, 12:58 pm
  • Royals call up INF Raul Mondesi from AAA
Royals recalled INF Raul Mondesi from Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: In turn, the struggling Whit Merrifield has been sent down. Regarded as the Royals' top position prospect, Mondesi has missed a big chunk of the season after serving a 50-game PED suspension, but he has played well since his promotion to Triple-A earlier this month. His plate discipline is shaky, so we're not convinced he'll see immediate success in the majors, but the Royals are looking for a spark and his speed could come in handy in deeper fantasy leagues assuming he gets regular starts at second base. Mondesi, who turns 21 on Wednesday, made his major league debut in the World Series last year, but he has yet to appear in a regular season game. Yesterday, 11:23 am
  • Eugenio Suarez hits 17th homer
Eugenio Suarez had a two-run homer and a double Monday against the Giants.

Advice: It's disappointing that Suarez's OBP has been hanging right around .300 for much of the year, but he's up to 17 homers now. It's too bad those homers have come with just seven doubles and a 100/27 K/BB ratio in 345 at-bats. Monday, 10:53 pm
  • Tyler Saladino delivers game-winner
Tyler Saladino went 2-for-4 with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as the White Sox edged the Cubs 5-4 on Monday.

Advice: Saladino is outhitting Brett Lawrie over the last month and is the superior defensive second baseman, so maybe it's time to give him a crack at the starting job. He wouldn't do much for fantasy leaguers if it happens, but as far as the White Sox are concerned, he just needs to be a better player than Lawrie. Right now, Saladino has a .722 OPS in 130 AB, while Lawrie is at .723 in 351 AB. Monday, 9:20 pm
  • Javier Baez goes 3-for-4, homers
Javier Baez finished 3-for-4 with a homer and a doubles Monday against the White Sox.

Advice: Most of Baez's success this year has come off lefties, so it was nice to see him collect extra-base hits against a pair of righties in this one. It could help him earn some more playing time. Monday, 9:10 pm

  • Jose Iglesias blasts two-run homer Monday
Jose Iglesias singled and smacked a two-run homer in Monday's victory over the Red Sox.

Advice: Drew Pomeranz had held the Tigers off the scoreboard until Iglesias launched a towering blast over the Green Monster with one out in the sixth inning. He also singled and scored in the eighth. Iglesias has batted second each of the last two nights with Cameron Maybin sitting out with a back ailment. Monday, 8:31 pm
  • Andres Blanco to have surgery on finger

Phillies recalled INF Taylor Featherston from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Featherston will take over for Andres Blanco, who landed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a fractured index finger. Featherston, 26, was batting .264/.320/.446 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI through 87 games this season at the Triple-A level. Monday, 11:35 am
  • Phillies place Andres Blanco (finger) on DL
Phillies placed INF Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left index finger.

  • Yankees acquire Torres in Chapman trade
Yankees acquired SS Gleyber Torres, RHP Adam Warren, OF Billy McKinney, and OF Rashad Crawford from the Cubs in exchange for LHP Aroldis Chapman.

Advice: Torres is the centerpiece of this deal for the Yankees, who could be launching into a kind of firesale as they attempt a rolling rebuild. Torres, 19, has batted .275/.359/.433 with nine home runs, 47 RBI, 19 stolen bases, and 62 runs scored over 94 games this season in High-A ball while playing excellent defense at the shortstop position. Baseball America,, and Baseball Prospectus all ranked him a top-50 prospect leading into 2016. It's a great get for New York. Monday, 11:24 am

  • Bregman at 3B and hitting sixth in MLB debut
Alex Bregman is starting at third base and batting sixth Monday in his MLB debut.

Advice:'s Richard Justice expects that Bregman will play left field on Tuesday and DH on Wednesday. His primary spot will probably be third base, but the 22-year-old top prospect is athletic enough to handle just about any position on the diamond. He was slashing .306/.406/.580 with 20 home runs and 61 RBI in 80 games this season between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno. Monday, 10:10 am
  • Astros officially promote Bregman from AAA
Astros purchased the contract of INF Alex Bregman from Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: Bregman will join the Astros ahead of Monday night's series opener against the visiting Yankees. The 22-year-old has been one of the best hitters in the minors this season, boasting a .306/.406/.580 batting line with 20 home runs and 61 RBI in 80 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He can also steal bases. Bregman should see everyday-like action between third base and left field and needs to be owned in all standard fantasy leagues. Monday, 9:28 am
  • Gleyber Torres part of Cubs offer for Chapman
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres is part of the Cubs' offer to the Yankees for closer Aroldis Chapman.

Advice: That explains why Torres was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday at High-A Myrtle Beach. Heyman says the offer remains on the table for the Yankees, who were said to be close to finalizing a Chapman trade on Saturday night. Chicago may be trying to work out an extension with the impending free agent left-hander. Torres, 19, has batted .275/.359/.433 with nine home runs, 47 RBI, 19 stolen bases, and 62 runs scored over 94 games this season in the Carolina League. He was a consensus top-50 prospect leading into the 2016 campaign. Sunday, 4:32 pm

  • Story slugs 27th home run, Rockies top ATL
Trevor Story slugged his 27th homer of the year Sunday in the Rockies' 7-2 victory over the Braves.

Advice: It was a two-run shot in the fourth inning off Atlanta rookie Tyrell Jenkins. Story also doubled and scored in the first inning, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Only two middle infielders in major league history have registered 30-homer seasons by age 23: Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra. Story is well on his way to becoming the third. Sunday, 4:20 pm
  • Astros to call up top prospect Alex Bregman
The Astros announced that they will call up top prospect Alex Bregman prior to Monday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: Finally, after weeks (months, really) of speculation, Bregman is set to make his major league debut. Astros manager A.J. Hinch admitted that he's not sure yet where Bregman will play but the former first-rounder has seen time at shortstop, third base and left field in the minors this season. Rest assured, he'll play regularly wherever it may be. Bregman has batted .306/.406/.580 with 20 homers and seven steals between Double- and Triple-A this season and needs to be picked up in any fantasy leagues where he's still available. Sunday, 2:31 pm
  • Andres Blanco (finger) headed to DL
Andres Blanco will be placed on the disabled list after being diagnosed with a fractured left index finger on Sunday.

  • Reyes notches RBI triple in win over Marlins
Jose Reyes went 1-for-5 with an RBI triple in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: Reyes showed that despite his age (33), he still brings a strong speed element to play whenever he steps to the dish. In Sunday's case, he collected an RBI triple against Marlins starter Jose Urena in the third inning. Since the Mets called him up on July 5, the embattled third baseman is slashing .242/.284/.516 with three homers, eight RBI and three steals over the course of 62 at-bats. He has quietly picked up hits in eight of his last 10 games. He is worth a shot in NL-only and deeper mixed-league formats at this juncture. Sunday, 1:34 pm

  • Addison Russell exits game with heel injury
Addison Russell exited Sunday's game against the Brewers with a bruised left heel.

Advice: He fouled a ball off the heel Saturday and it got progressively sore on him Sunday. The Cubs are saying his removal was precautionary, so consider Russell day-to-day. Javier Baez is likely to fill in at shortstop for any amount of time that Russell might miss. Sunday, 1:03 pm

Zack Cozart is absent from the Reds' lineup Sunday.

  • Story homers twice, scores thrice, nets 5 RBI
Trevor Story stuffed the box score on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Advice: He hit a two-run homer in the second inning, then added a solo shot in the eighth. The rookie now has 26 longballs on the season, which is a lot more than he ever hit in a minor league season. He is batting .272/.347/.580 with 63 runs, 67 RBI and seven steals. He has an extremely high strikeout rate, but that has not interfered with his stellar overall production yet. Saturday, 9:49 pm
  • Bogaerts' four-hit game not enough for Sox
Xander Bogaerts finished 4-for-6 with a run scored in a loss to the Twins on Saturday.

Advice: The Red Sox pounded out 15 hits on the night, led by Bogaerts' four, but the Twins won the slugfest. That wasn't by fault of the 23-year-old Bogaerts, who is 11-for-22 in his last five games. The ultra-talented young shortstop is hitting .329/.385/.474 with 61 RBI and 72 runs scored, sixth-most in the American League, on the season. Saturday, 9:47 pm
  • Nunez has three RBI, stolen base against Sox
Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-6 with three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Nunez had an RBI single in the second inning and chipped in a two-run single in the Twins' five-run seventh inning. The stolen base was his 24th of the season, already a single-season best for the 29-year-old. It's been a year to remember all around for Nunez, who's hitting .302/.328/.452 overall. Saturday, 9:43 pm
  • Lindor goes 2-for-4 with a run scored on Sat.
Francisco Lindor stroked two singles in four at-bats and scored a run on Saturday.

Advice: He is batting .304 with 12 homers, 68 runs, 49 RBI and 13 steals. Lindor has hit better in the majors than he ever did in the minors. He has been a very productive fantasy shortstop the last two seasons and is still only 22 years old. Saturday, 8:35 pm
  • Owings returns to action with a stolen base
Chris Owings went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in his first game back from the disabled list on Saturday.

Advice: The stolen base is a good sign that the foot injury that kept him on the DL for six weeks is a thing of the past. He doesn't have much power, so his .284 batting average and his nine stolen bases are the only stats keeping him on the fringe of fantasy usefulness. Saturday, 8:01 pm

  • Shawn O'Malley starting at shortstop Saturday
Shawn O'Malley is starting at shortstop and batting ninth for the Mariners on Saturday.

Advice: He gets the challenge of facing Jays' knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. With Ketel Marte on the disabled list, the door is open for O'Malley to see some extra time in the infield over the next week or so. Saturday, 7:08 am
  • Corey Seager goes 4-for-7 against Cards
Corey Seager went 4-for-7 and knocked in a run against the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: Seager didn't hit for the kind of average we were hoping for early on, but he's all of the way up to .307 for the season now. He's batting .331 with 15 homers in his last 66 games. Friday, 10:34 pm
  • Trevor Story hits 24th homer
Trevor Story collected his 24th homer Friday against the Braves.

Advice: Story has now matched Troy Tulowitzki's homer total from his rookie season in 2007. The only shortstops to hit more than 24 as rookies were Nomar Garciaparra (30 in 1997) and Cal Ripken Jr. (28 while splitting time between short and third in 1982). Those two were Rookie of the Year winners. Time will tell is Story will be, too. Friday, 9:11 pm
  • Reyes has three hits in win over Marlins
Jose Reyes filled up the box score Friday against the Marlins by going 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base.

Advice: Reyes had a double and a pair of singles. He scored on a pair of sacrifice flies by Yoenis Cespedes. This was Reyes’ first three-hit game of the season and his first multi-hit game since July 10. He’s batting .250/.298/.538 overall. The Mets could use more games like this one from him. • Marcus Semien sitting out on Friday
Marcus Semien is not in the Athletics' lineup Friday.

Advice: He's just getting a breather. Danny Valencia is also sitting out, as the A's are going with Arismendy Alcantara at shortstop, Yonder Alonso at first base, Khris Davis in the designated hitter spot, Jake Smolinski in center field and Coco Crisp in left. Friday, 1:46 pm
  • Corey Seager (flu) returns to Dodgers' lineup
Corey Seager (flu) is back in the Dodgers' lineup Friday.

  • Bogaerts has big night as Red Sox roll to win
Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in a lopsided win over the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: The first four hitters in the Sox lineup finished 14-for-19 in the one-sided affair, and Bogaerts was right in the middle of the action with a two-run double in the third inning. The 23-year-old is hitting .324/.380/.470 with 61 RBI and 71 runs scored this year, and he's got 11 homers and 11 steals to boot. Thursday, 7:03 pm
  • Bregman in left field again Thursday
Alex Bregman will start in left field for the second straight Thursday with Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: Bregman made his first ever start in left field on Wednesday, as the Astros look ahead to where he could fit in the majors. Of course, the club just signed Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel, who figures to play third base once he's ready for the majors. With the way he's hitting, Bregman figures to make it to the majors first, but the added versatility will help his chances of getting regular at-bats down the stretch. Thursday, 2:23 pm
  • Bregman notches three hits in left field debut
Astros SS/3B prospect Alex Bregman smashed three hits while starting in left field Wednesday in a win for Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: The 22-year-old has produced at least two hits in each of his last three games. Playing left field, a position Bregman had never played until Wednesday, is an interesting wrinkle in his development. Bregman is a shortstop by trade but has recently focused on third base because it's his clearest path to the major leagues. Now that Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel has been added to the mix, it might not be a bad idea for Bregman to get comfortable playing the outfield as well. The new top prospect in baseball should make his big league debut later this year. Thursday, 8:23 am
  • Seager (flu) remains out Thursday vs. Nats
Corey Seager (flu) remains absent from the Dodgers' lineup Thursday versus the Nationals.

Advice: Seager is still battling that nasty flu bug that seems to be traveling from clubhouse to clubhouse. Chris Taylor will start at shortstop Thursday in Washington, D.C. Thursday, 6:52 am
  • Owings (foot) near return to Diamondbacks
Chris Owings (foot) is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks within the next week.

Advice: Owings played in back-to-back rehab games with Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, going a combined 5-for-9 with a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored. He has been on the disabled list since June 11 due to a flareup of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The righty-swinging 24-year-old can platoon in center field with lefty Michael Bourn. Jedd Gyorko continued to terrorize his former club, blasting a pair of home runs to power the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Gyorko tagged Padres starter Paul Clemens for a solo homer in the third inning then added on a two-run blast in the fifth. He also left the yard in the first game of Wednesday's twin-bill. Oh, and he went 3-for-3 and homered in the first game of the series on Monday as well. Advice: Hardy spent six weeks on the DL in May and June and hasn't done much since his return. He is batting an empty .264 with four home runs and 20 RBI on the season. His days as a good fantasy shortstop option are in the rear-view mirror and fading fast. Wednesday, 7:28 pm

  • Alex Bregman may start in LF on Wednesday
Alex Bregman may get a start in left field on Wednesday at Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: He played third base Tuesday for the first time since his promotion from Double-A Corpus Christi. Bregman is adding some versatility while he knocks down the door for a callup to the major leagues. He's batting .312/.413/.601 with 20 home runs and seven stolen bases in 76 games this season between Double-A and Triple-A. Wednesday, 11:17 am
  • Francisco Lindor goes 2-for-4, homers
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored Tuesday against the Royals.

Advice: Lindor has been one of the AL's steadiest hitters this year, coming in at .293 in April, .316 in May, .301 in June and .293 so far in July. It's just too bad he's slowed down on the basepaths; he's 0-for-1 stealing bases in July. He had 10 steals the first two months and just three since. Tuesday, 8:33 pm
  • Alex Bregman starting at third base at AAA
Alex Bregman is starting at third base for Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday night.

Advice: It's his first start at the hot corner since his promotion from Double-A Corpus Christi. Third base is the clear spot for Bregman in Houston with Carlos Correa at shortstop and Jose Altuve at second base. The addition of Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel complicates things long term, but Bregman should beat Gurriel to the major leagues this year. These are good problems to have for Houston. • Jedd Gyorko reaches four times against Padres
Jedd Gyorko tormented his former team Monday, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Padres.
