  • Rays exercise Ben Zobrist's option for 2015
Rays exercised INF/OF Ben Zobrist's $7.5 million option for 2015.

Advice: Zobrist didn't have one of his better years at the plate with a .749 OPS, but he's still worth well more than $7.5 million, so it's a no-brainer move even for a team with a limited payroll. That said, it wouldn't be surprising if the Rays shopped him this winter, as he's slated for free agency after next season. Rotoworld.com

  • Indians pick up Mike Aviles' 2015 option
Indians exercised INF Mike Aviles' $3.5 million option for 2015.

Advice: It was reported a week ago that they planned to pick it up, and now it's official. Aviles hit just .247/.273/.343 this season, but he offers plenty of value with his ability to play all over the diamond. Rotoworld.com

  • Rays expected to pick up Ben Zobrist's option
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays are expected to pick up Ben Zobrist's $7.5 million option for 2015.

Advice: It's a no-brainer move, as Zobrist is coming off another solid season and remains incredibly valuable due to his versatility. But while the Rays intend to pick up the option, it's been speculated that they might consider trading Zobrist this offseason since he's a year away from free agency. Rotoworld.com

  • Brewers decline Rickie Weeks' 2015 option
Brewers declined 2B Rickie Weeks' $14.5 million option for 2015.

Advice: It's no surprise, of course, after Weeks lost his second base job to Scooter Gennett this season. He hit well in a part-time role, batting .274/.357/.452 with eight homers over 286 plate appearances. He's injury-prone and the big upside isn't there anymore, but Weeks is probably intriguing enough to land a starting job somewhere this winter. Rotoworld.com

  • Rafael Furcal activated from 60-day DL
Marlins activated INF Rafael Furcal from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Furcal was limited to just nine games for the Marlins this season due to leg issues. The 36-year-old seems likely to have to settle for a minor league contract this winter. Rotoworld.com

  • MRI on Profar's shoulder 95 pct. clean
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that an MRI on Jurickson Profar (shoulder) was "95 percent clean."

Advice: Good news for Profar, who missed the entire 2014 season due to a right shoulder injury. The Rangers shut the 21-year-old infielder down in September after he suffered multiple setbacks, but Daniels hopes that he'll be cleared in January. Still, he remains a big question going into 2015. • Ramon Santiago elects to become free agent
Ramon Santiago has elected to become a free agent.

Advice: Santiago was outrighted off the Reds' 40-man roster on Thursday and rejected an assignment to Triple-A Louisville. The 35-year-old utility infielder is a .243/.314/.330 career hitter in 920 major league games. Rotoworld.com

  • Cubs outright Chris Valaika to AAA Iowa
Cubs sent INF Chris Valaika outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Valaika batted just .231/.282/.339 in 131 plate appearances this season for the Cubs. The utility infielder is no longer on the team's 40-man roster. Rotoworld.com

  • Infante tallies lone extra-base hit in loss
Omar Infante went 1-for-3 with a double, tallying the Royals only extra-base hit as they dropped Game 5 of the World Series to the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Madison Bumgarner was unbelievable on the other side of the diamond, completely stifling the Royals offensive attack. Infante has struggled in the postseason, hitting just .222 (10-for-45) with a homer and five RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • Panik logs 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs in Game 4
Joe Panik had a big night in the Giants' Game 4 win against the Royals on Saturday, doubling twice with two RBI and two runs scored in four at-bats.

Advice: Panik was hitting only .154 (2-for-13) entering the night, but contributed in a big way in Game 4. He led off the fifth inning with a double, chasing Jason Vargas from the game, and later scored. His sixth-inning sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position and both wound up scoring. In the seventh, he knocked in a run with a double and scored on a Hunter Pence double. Panik has been a very pleasant surprise for the Giants since taking over second base in late June. Rotoworld.com

  • Teams to monitor Chase Utley's availibility
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that teams are going to monitor Chase Utley closely this offseason to see if he becomes available via trade.

Advice: Utley would have to approve any deal, and he's expressed a hesitancy to do so in the past. However, the Phillies don't seem particularly close to contending, so perhaps the soon-to-be 36-year-old will have a change of heart over the winter. Utley hit a solid .270/.339/.407 with 11 homers and 78 RBI this season and would no doubt draw plenty of interest from around the league if he's placed on the trade block. Rotoworld.com

  • Infante taking Toradol for shoulder pain
Omar Infante has been taking oral doses of Toradol in order to combat nagging pain in his right shoulder.

Advice: Toradol is a controversial pain-killer that has been banned by some teams and in some countries, but Major League Baseball considers it legal. "I feel better, because I’m taking strong pills," Infante said. "That’s helped me a lot. I feel it a little bit in B.P., and I still feel sore in the front of my shoulder. But yesterday I felt more comfortable." Infante could have minor surgery over the offseason to repair his shoulder issue, but he'll gut it out for now. Rotoworld.com

  • Infante delivers two-run homer in Game 2 win
Omar Infante went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in a World Series Game 2 win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Infante was one of the Royals' worst offensive performers during the regular season, but he came up big in Game 2. He doubled and scored the Royals' second run in the second inning, and his two-run blast off Hunter Strickland capped a five-run sixth inning that decided the outcome of the game. The homer was his first in 145 career postseason at-bats. It was a good time for it, as the Royals needed a split to stand a chance heading to San Francisco for a three-game set that starts Friday. • Indians expected to exercise option on Aviles
The Indians are expected to exercise their 2015 option on Mike Aviles.

Advice: Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said a few weeks ago that he was undecided on Aviles and his $3.5 million option, but Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the team is leaning toward bringing him back. Aviles hit just .247/.273/.343 last season but appeared at six different positions and offers a veteran presence. The Indians don't officially have to make a decision on the 33-year-old until three days after the end of the World Series. Rotoworld.com

  • Nix replaces Colon on Royals' WS roster
Jayson Nix has replaced Christian Colon on the Royals' roster for the World Series.

Advice: Colon logged two plate appearances between the ALDS and ALCS while serving as a backup infielder. Nix was claimed off waivers from the Pirates in late August and appeared in seven games for the Royals down the stretch. This is the Royals' only roster change for the World Series against the Giants. Rotoworld.com
