  • Raul Mondesi excels in Fall League victory
Royals prospect Raul Mondesi had a strong day at the dish in Friday's victory over Mesa in Arizona Fall League action, going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.

Advice: Mondesi also swiped his third base of the Fall season in the contest. The 19-year-old struggled at High-A Wilmington in 2014, slashing just .211/.256/.354 with eight homers, 33 RBI and 17 stolen bases in his 110 games. He's expected to return to Wilmington for the start of the 2015 season and remains firmly entrenched in the Royals future plans. Rotoworld.com

  • Pirates acquire Justin Sellers from Indians
Pirates acquired INF Justin Sellers from the Indians for cash considerations.

Advice: The 28-year-old utility infielder owns a troublesome career slash of .198/.280/.294 over 99 big league contests. He'll be nothing more than additional depth in the infield for the Pirates. Rotoworld.com

  • Alcides Escobar sparks Royals to Game 3 win
Alcides Escobar went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, sparking the Royals offense in Friday’s 3-2 victory over the Giants in Game 3 of the World Series.

Advice: Escobar jumped on the very first pitch of the night from Tim Hudson, lining a leadoff double into the left field corner. He advanced to third on a ground ball and came around to score on a ground out off the bat of Lorenzo Cain to give the Royals an early advantage. The speedy shortstop then delivered a one-out single in the sixth inning which started a two-run uprising that proved to be the difference in the contest. Rotoworld.com

  • Miguel Sano will not play winter ball in 2014
Twins general manager Terry Ryan confirmed Friday that Miguel Sano will not play winter ball in the Dominican Republic this season.

Advice: The top prospect hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but the doctors do not want him to play. He has been doing baseball-related drills at the Twins extended spring training complex and is getting healthier by the day, but the Twins still want to take things cautiously with their prized young slugger. • Addison Russell being shut down in AFL
The Cubs are shutting down Addison Russell from the Arizona Fall League.

Advice: Russell is healthy, but the Cubs feel like he has played a full season. The 20-year-old is one of the top shortstop prospects in the majors, but he saw some time at second base during the Arizona Fall League in an effort to increase his versatility. It's not clear where he'll fit in 2015, but he's on the fast track to the big leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Indians expected to exercise option on Aviles
The Indians are expected to exercise their 2015 option on Mike Aviles.

Advice: Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said a few weeks ago that he was undecided on Aviles and his $3.5 million option, but Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the team is leaning toward bringing him back. Aviles hit just .247/.273/.343 last season but appeared at six different positions and offers a veteran presence. The Indians don't officially have to make a decision on the 33-year-old until three days after the end of the World Series. Rotoworld.com

  • Royals stick with regular lineup for WS Gm 2
Alcides Escobar will bat leadoff in Game 2 of the World Series against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Royals manager Ned Yost isn't making any changes following Tuesday's Game 1 loss. The full lineup: Escobar SS, Nori Aoki RF, Lorenzo Cain CF, Eric Hosmer 1B, Billy Butler DH, Alex Gordon LF, Salvador Perez C, Omar Infante 2B, Mike Moustakas 3B. Yordano Ventura will oppose Jake Peavy. Rotoworld.com

  • Cubs' Russell plays second base in AFL
Cubs prospect Addison Russell has played second base in the Arizona Fall League.

Advice: Cubs president Theo Epstein said earlier this month that Russell would prepare to play multiple positions and the 20-year-old made his first start at second base last Monday. "Everything's going good," said Russell. "I missed nine weeks so not only the at-bats, I need to get some reps at short and possibly at second. That's what I'm working on right now." The Cubs still have Starlin Castro at shortstop, so they are simply keeping their options open. The logjam could ultimately be resolved with a trade. Rotoworld.com

  • Nix replaces Colon on Royals' WS roster
Jayson Nix has replaced Christian Colon on the Royals' roster for the World Series.

Advice: Colon logged two plate appearances between the ALDS and ALCS while serving as a backup infielder. Nix was claimed off waivers from the Pirates in late August and appeared in seven games for the Royals down the stretch. This is the Royals' only roster change for the World Series against the Giants. Rotoworld.com

  • Pedro Ciriaco catches on with Braves
Braves signed INF Pedro Ciriaco to a minor league contract.

Advice: Ciriaco had been removed from the Royals' 40-man roster. The 29-year-old infielder will presumably receive an invitation to spring training and compete for a utility job. Rotoworld.com

  • Phillies outright Andres Blanco to Triple-A
Phillies sent INF Andres Blanco outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: It's nothing more than a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Phillies. The 30-year-old infielder appeared in 25 games with the Phillies in 2014, slashing .277/.306/.447 with a homer and three RBI in 47 at-bats. Rotoworld.com

  • Elvis Andrus dropping some weight
Elvis Andrus told the Dallas Morning News at manager Jeff Banister's introductory press conference on Friday that he's lost 10 pounds since the end of the season.

Advice: Andrus added that he plans to drop an additional 10 pounds. It was a disappointing 2014 campaign for the shortstop, as he batted just .263/.314/.333 with two homers, 41 RBI and 27 steals. Apparently the 26-year-old believes that shedding some weight will help him rebound in 2015. The first year of Andrus' eight-year, $118 million extension kicks in next season. Rotoworld.com

  • Dombrowski: Iglesias (shins) will be 'fine'
Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said earlier this week that he's been told by doctors that Jose Iglesias (shins) will be "fine" for spring training.

Advice: "The doctors tell me he'll be fine," Dombrowski said. "He's going to be ready for spring training, he's going to be ready to go, and he's over all of his (injuries)." Iglesias, of course, missed all of the 2014 season due to stress fractures in both shins, but he's been ramping up his baseball activity of late without experiencing any issues. Dombrowski stopped short of officially naming Iglesias the team's shortstop for next season since he wants to see him in game action first, but he said he'd be "surprised" if the slick fielder isn't at the position on Opening Day. • Flaherty hits solo home run in loss to Royals
Ryan Flaherty hit a solo home run, the only run the Orioles could muster on the afternoon, in Wednesday's ALCS Game 4 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Flaherty's home run off Royals starter Jason Vargas in the third inning cut the Royals' lead to 2-1, but it was as close as the Orioles would come. Surprisingly, Flaherty finished the series as one of the Orioles' most productive hitters, batting .333 (4-for-12) with a home run and three RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • No changes with Giants' lineup for NLCS Gm 4
Brandon Crawford will remain in the No. 8 spot for Game 4 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: In other words, no changes from Game 3. Here's the full lineup: Gregor Blanco CF, Joe Panik 2B, Buster Posey C, Pablo Sandoval 3B, Hunter Pence RF, Brandon Belt 1B, Travis Ishikawa LF, Crawford SS, Ryan Vogelsong SP. Shelby Miller will start for St. Louis. Rotoworld.com

  • Correa (fibula) expected to be ready for ST
During a Twitter chat on Wednesday, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow wrote that prospect Carlos Correa (fibula) is expected to be fully recovered and ready for spring training.

Advice: Correa suffered a fractured fibula in June while playing with High-A Lancaster, but he has already resumed doing baseball activities, including running and fielding grounders. The 20-year-old was on the fast track to the majors prior to the injury and remains one of the game's most promising prospects. Rotoworld.com

  • Jays re-sign Diaz to minor league contract
Blue Jays re-signed INF Jonathan Diaz to a minor league contract.

Advice: He'll also get a spring training invite. Diaz appeared in 23 games with the Blue Jays this past season, but spent the majority of the year at the Triple-A level. The 29-year-old will continue to provide infield depth. Rotoworld.com
