    • Castro cleared of involvement in shooting
Starlin Castro has been cleared of any involvement in a shooting in the Dominican Republic.

Advice: Six people were injured in the shooting, which took place early Saturday morning at a nightclub. While early reports indicated that Castro was arrested or detained, his agent, Paul Kinzer, said that he went to the police station voluntarily and video proved his innocence. Dominican police rep Jacobo Mateo Moquete later announced that Castro was free after being cleared of any wrongdoing. Rotoworld.com

    • Rafael Furcal suffers torn hamstring
Dionisio Soldevila of ESPNDeportes.com reports that Rafael Furcal will miss the Dominican Winter League playoffs after tearing his hamstring.

Advice: It's not clear which hamstring he tore, but it's obviously bad news for Furcal after he missed nearly all of the 2014 season with left hamstring issues. A timetable for his rehab isn't known at this time, but it would now seem unlikely that Furcal is able to land a contract before spring training. The 37-year-old infielder has played just nine games over the last two seasons due to injury. Rotoworld.com

    • Rays could trade Ben Zobrist
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi writes that "there's a decent chance" the Rays will trade Ben Zobrist before Opening Day.

Advice: It reads as speculation, but it makes a lot of sense given how active the Rays have been on the trade front this offseason. Zobrist turns 34 in May and will make $7.5 million in 2015 before hitting free agency. His versatility would make him an attractive target for a number of teams and should fetch Tampa Bay a nice haul. Morosi lists the Mets, Nationals, Mariners, Rangers, Cubs, Reds, and Twins among the teams who could be a fit. Rotoworld.com

    • Gregorio Petit outrighted to Triple-A
Astros sent INF Gregorio Petit outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Petit was designated for assignment last week and has now cleared waivers. Petit, 29, batted .278/.300/.423 with two home runs and a 25/1 K/BB ratio in 37 games this past season. Rotoworld.com

    • Yankees have checked in on Troy Tulowitzki
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Yankees have checked in with the Rockies on Troy Tulowitzki.

Advice: Heyman reported late last week that the Mets and Rockies had been "quietly discussing" the parameters of a Tulowitzki trade, but the two sides have not been able to find a match. And while the Yankees also have a big hole at shortstop, they probably don't possess the kind of elite-level prospects that Colorado would want in a return package. Heyman writes Monday that it "remains unclear how committed the Rockies-owning Monfort brothers are to trading the beloved Tulo." Rotoworld.com

    • Phillies showing interest in Asdrubal Cabrera
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that the Phillies could have interest in free agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera.

Advice: The Phillies have a large vacancy to fill at the shortstop after dealing Jimmy Rollins to the Dodgers, and Cabrera is one of the top names available on the free agent market. According to Crasnick though, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. would first have to shed some payroll to create the requisite flexibility to add the veteran infielder. Rotoworld.com

    • Braves pick up Jace Peterson from Padres
Braves acquired INF Jace Peterson from the Padres in the Justin Upton trade.

Advice: A former sandwich round pick, Peterson batted .307/.402/.447 with 16 steals between Double- and Triple-A last season and got a cup of coffee in the majors. He's a pretty solid middle infield prospect but didn't land in a great situation in Atlanta with Andrelton Simmons holding down shortstop and Jose Peraza on his way at second base. Rotoworld.com

    • Shawn O'Malley released by Angels
      Angels released INF/OF Shawn O'Malley.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Johnny Giavotella. O'Malley, who will turn 27 later this month, is a career .258/.351/.338 hitter in the minors and got a cup of coffee with the Angels at the end of last season. Rotoworld.com

    • A's release veteran INF Nick Punto
      Athletics released INF Nick Punto.

Advice: Punto, 37, batted just .207/.296/.293 this season for the A's while battling some injuries. The A's will still be responsible for his $2.75 million salary next season. Someone will get Punto a shot due to his versatility, but he might have to settle for a minor league deal. Rotoworld.com

    • Phillies have interest in Rafael Furcal
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Phillies are "kicking the tires" on Rafael Furcal.

Advice: Freddy Galvis is expected to take over at shortstop following the trade of Jimmy Rollins, but Furcal could be added as a backup option. The 37-year-old infielder was limited to just nine games for the Marlins this season due to leg issues after missing all of 2013 following Tommy John surgery. Rotoworld.com

    • Dodgers announce trade for SS Jimmy Rollins
Dodgers acquired SS Jimmy Rollins and cash considerations from the Phillies in exchange for RHP Zach Eflin and LHP Tom Windle.

Advice: They had to wait for the Matt Kemp trade to become official (which it did Thursday night), as Eflin was part of the package the Dodgers got from the Padres. Rollins makes for a nice one-year option for the contending Dodgers, as he's coming off a nice 2014 season that saw him bat .243/.323/.394 with 17 home runs and 55 RBI while also played pretty good defense at shortstop. The Phillies are sending $1 million to the Dodgers in the deal. Rotoworld.com

    • Mets still talking Tulo trade with Rockies
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mets and Rockies "have been quietly discussing" a potential Troy Tulowitzki trade for weeks.

Advice: He adds that pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard "is said to be the centerpiece of discussions" of the package that would head to the Rockies. However, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says the two teams have talked all offseason but no traction has been gained. A source told him he thinks the chances of the two sides completing a deal are "5-10 percent." In other words, nothing has really changed here. Rotoworld.com
