    • Travis Wood allowed three earned runs over seven innings Sunday as the Cubs fell to the Brewers.
Advice: Wood was only decent, which was a disappointment considering how well he has pitched this season and how poor the Mets' lineup is. Wood gave up five hits and two walks, watching his ERA rise from 2.03 to 2.24 and his WHIP from 0.92 to 0.93. He'll try for better next time out against the Reds.

    • Aroldis Chapman blew his second straight save chance Sunday in the Reds' loss to the Phillies.
Advice: Chapman entered with the Reds leading 2-1 and then gave up back-to-back solo homers to Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis. The hard-throwing lefty hasn't enjoyed the cleanest May but is obviously still the Cincinnati closer. He'll try to bounce back in the next opportunity that he gets.

    • Logan Morrison (knee) is slated to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter on Monday.
Advice: Morrison has been playing in extended spring training games lately and hasn't had any setbacks with his surgically-repaired knee. With his 20-day rehab clock started on Monday, he'll be activated no later than early June as long as he doesn't have a setback.

    • Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Tuesday that he's unsure when Logan Morrison (knee) will begin a rehab assignment.
Advice: Morrison is playing in extended spring training games, but the Marlins want him to get more at-bats. "He hasn't had many at-bats so I don't know how far out he is before he starts his 20-day rehab," Redmond said. Barring a setback, LoMo should return sometime next month.

    • Sean Doolittle retired the Royals in order in the eighth inning Saturday, picking up his seventh hold.
Advice: Those of you in holds league already know Doolittle. Those of you in deeper formats should get acquainted with him as well, if you haven't already. Doolittle is 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 19/3 K/BB rate over 20 appearances. Doolittle surrendered a pair of solo homers in late-April. Outside of that, nobody has touched him.

Advice: It was his first homer since May 3 and his fifth overall. In 2012, he didn't hit his first bomb until May 11 and his second until June 13, finishing with nine. He'll easily pass that number this year.

    • Wilton Lopez tossed 1 1/3 perfect relief innings in Saturday's 10-2 drubbing of the Giants.
Advice: Lopez held a 12.46 ERA on April 12 and has been working since to minimize the toll his early-season woes wrought on his earned run average. He finished his first month in Colorado with a 6.17 ERA, but has been the reliever the Rockies believed they were acquiring over the winter since, posting a 2.08 ERA over 8 2/3 innings. Interestingly, Lopez had a superb 8/0 K/BB rate during his awful April and has notched a sub-mediocre 3/3 K/BB rate in May.

    • Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
Advice: It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

    • Michael Dunn nailed down his second career save in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.
Advice: Marlins manager Mike Redmond decided to pull closer Steve Cisherk and go to Dunn with two on and lefty Miguel Montero coming up. Dunn walked Montero but then got A.J. Pollock to ground out after running the count full. With Cishek's struggles against left-handers this year, it's possible Dunn could see the occasional save opportunity.

    • Ervin Santana notched another quality start on Saturday but took the loss in Kansas City's 2-1 setback in Oakland.
Advice: Santana spun seven innings of two-run ball, striking out five and allowing four hits and three walks. He didn't surrender a home run, which has been perhaps the biggest reason he's turned around his career in Kansas City. After leading the league in long-balls allowed in 2012 with 39, Santana has given up just six thus far; and three of those were in his season debut. The resurgent right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over eight starts.

    • Tyler Chatwood enjoyed a successful return to the majors Saturday night, holding the Giants to one run over 5 1/3 innings.
Advice: Chatwood was making a spot start that allowed Colorado to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest. In his first start since April 29, Chatwood struck out four, walked four and gave up seven hits. Chatwood has a 2.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over three starts in the majors. • Tyler Chatwood will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado to start against the Giants on Saturday.
Advice: Originally, Chatwood was expected to be recalled to start on Sunday in place of the injured Jeff Francis. Instead, the Rockies have opted to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest and use Chatwood on Saturday. Chatwood has fared decently in his first two starts with the Rockies this season, and has posted a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He's also had a great year at Triple-A Colorado Springs, posting a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. The righty could stick around for at least a couple starts.

    • Steve Cishek was pulled from a save chance Sunday after allowing a two-out single and a walk.
Advice: Cishek came on after Ricky Nolasco gave up a leadoff double and got a groundout and sac fly before running into trouble. The closer then gave way to Mike Dunn, who walked a batter before getting a groundout to end it. Cishek has been dominant against right-handers this season, but lefties have really given him fits. It's possible Dunn could see the occasional save chance if matchups dictate it.

    • Steve Cishek worked a perfect ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Advice: Cishek took the loss against the Reds his last time out, so it was good to see him back and pitching well. The Marlins don't have any better options and Cishek is actually pretty good for the most part, so there's little doubt he will continue to be the closer going forward.

  • Thu, May 16
    • Steve Cishek took his fourth loss after giving up three runs in 1 2/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday.
Advice: Cishek pitched a scoreless ninth with the Marlins down 2-1 and then was asked to stay in to pitch the 10th after the Marlins tied it. It's the second time this year he's been asked to get more than three outs, and both times he's taken losses. Cishek had been pitching better of late, so he should be safe in the closer's role. He's 5-for-6 in his save chances this year, blowing only his first opportunity on April 7.

    • Matt Moore ran his record to 8-0 after tossing seven innings of one-run ball in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Orioles.
Advice: Moore notched just three strikeouts on the day, but he allowed only five hits and walked one. The left-hander has still had some control problems this season, but he's limited the damage by giving up just 34 hits over 55 innings. A few more balls are sure to start falling in at some point, but the young southpaw should remain a fantasy ace. He'll face the Yankees next weekend.

Advice: The final line is a little misleading for the southpaw, as the Sox did all their damage with the first four batters of the game. Moore then held Red Sox batters to just one hit and two walks over the next five innings, striking out eight in the process. He now owns a 2.44 ERA through eight starts. Advice: Harper's seventh-inning solo bomb off Tyson Ross was his only hit in four at-bats. The wunderkind said he felt "terrible" after grounding out as a pinch-hitter Wednesday. Advice: Rodney didn't record a strikeout, but he got a flyout and a couple harmless groundouts in the outing. His control has waned at times this season, but Rodney has received a vote of confidence from manager Joe Maddon and will continue to see the save chances in Tampa.

    • Fernando Rodney gave up three runs in the ninth to take his third blown save and his second loss Thursday against the Red Sox.
Advice: Rodney walked three to load the bases, got ahead of Will Middlebrooks 0-2 with two outs and then gave up a three-run double on a changeup left over the plate. Afterwards, he couldn't even be bothered to back up home plate. He was left in anyway, but only long enough to walk his fourth hitter of the night. Rodney's command has been an issue all year long, and he had no idea where his fastball was going tonight. His changeup was still working, and it was almost good enough to get him a scoreless inning and a save anyway. Still, he's officially become a problem for the Rays. He probably won't be pulled from the closer's role, but it's something Joe Maddon needs to think about. Joel Peralta would be next in line for saves.
