• Struggles in first loss
Vest (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits across an inning of work to take the loss Wednesday against the Rays. He struck out one.

Advice: Vest has been mostly good so far this season, though his ERA climbed from 1.64 to 3.75 with this clunker. The righty turned in a 2.98 ERA across 48 games last year, so this poor performance will likely just be a blip on the radar. Vest should remain locked into a high-leverage setup role for the Tigers, but his fantasy value is somewhat limited because he's not seeing save opportunities at the moment. • Clarke Schmidt limits A’s to three runs in win
Clarke Schmidt was charged with three runs over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Yankees.

Advice: Schmidt carried a shutout into the sixth inning before coughing up a three-run blast to Athletics slugger Brent Rooker, which accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. He struck out six and only issued a pair of walks. He’ll bring a solid 3.55 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 29/10 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings (five starts) into a challenging road tilt on Monday against the upstart Orioles. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Joe Boyle walks four, fans six in loss to Yankees
Joe Boyle surrendered two runs over three innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Boyle’s struggles at the outset of the season continued at Yankee Stadium as he managed to record six strikeouts, but also handed out four free passes, and needed a whopping 85 pitches (50 strikes) to complete three frames. He needs to somewhat solve his omnipresent control issues, and get a bit more economical, if he’s going to make an impact for fantasy managers down the road. He boasts an inflated 7.06 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 24/16 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings (five starts) so far. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Monday against the Pirates in a home matchup. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • MRI results inconclusive
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that an MRI on Miley's left elbow was inconclusive, prompting the Brewers to send the left-hander to Cincinnati for an in-person arthogram, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Miley was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to left elbow inflammation, but the Brewers apparently still have some concern that the southpaw may be dealing with some ligament damage. The arthogram should offer more clarity on the matter, while also helping the Brewers in deciding a treatment plan for Miley's injury. Tobias Myers was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Monday and ended up taking Miley's spot in the rotation Tuesday in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Shohei Ohtani raises average to .371 in blowout
Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI on Wednesday in the Dodgers’ blowout win over the Nationals.

Advice: We’re running out of superlatives to describe Ohtani’s exploits. He doubled three times in the one-sided affair, including a pair of runs-scoring knocks in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to raise his batting average to an astronomical .371 (39-for-105) in the process. The 29-year-old two-way fantasy superstar has put together an unbelievable Dodgers debut so far with a 1.128 OPS to go along with 22 runs scored, six homers, 16 RBI and five steals through 26 games. • My Sharona: Landon Knack gets first win in blowout
Landon Knack allowed two runs over six innings on Wednesday against the Nationals to collect his first career win.

Advice: Knack limited Washington’s offense to just three hits, including a second-inning solo shot by Nick Senzel, and got plenty of support from Los Angeles’ lineup to cruise to the first victory of his career. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued three walks. The 26-year-old top pitching prospect holds a strong 3.27 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 9/4 K/BB ratio across 11 innings (two starts) so far. He’ll presumably take the ball on either Monday or Tuesday against the Diamondbacks in his next outing. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Crikey: Dodgers tag Irvin for six runs in loss
Jake Irvin was torched for a season-high six runs over 4 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Irvin was unable to flummox the Dodgers’ star-studded lineup for the second straight start, getting tagged for a staggering 12 hits over 4 2/3 frames, after spinning six shutout frames last week out in Los Angeles. Amazingly, none of the dozen hits wound up leaving the yard, but it was enough to saddle him with a loss in a one-sided affair. He struck out three and only issued one walk. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 23/7 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (five starts) into a favorable matchup on Monday against the Marlins. It’s a nice spot for streaming purposes, which gives him some appeal for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Cooper Criswell gets first MLB win as starter
Cooper Criswell blanked the Guardians for five innings Wednesday to earn his first major league victory as a starter.

Advice: Criswell did have one previous win as a reliever. The 27-year-old was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in his three career starts. He succeeded tonight even though his hardest pitch checked in at 90.1 mph. What he does have is very good command and ample movement on his cutter and changeup. It won’t be enough to make him much more than a fifth starter, but he’s looking like a nice find for the Red Sox. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Carlos Carrasco tagged for three homers by Red Sox
Carlos Carrasco surrendered five runs and nine hits in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Carrasco gave up three homers, none of them cheapies. Unfortunately, there’s probably not much to be done here, as Carrasco is averaging barely over 90 mph with his fastball. That’s down two mph from last year and about four mph from his prime. He’ll keep doing his best — and his 4.63 ERA in five starts isn’t exactly bad — but he has very little upside as is.
