    • Struggles with control in loss
Montas (2-2) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks while striking out one batter over two innings.

Advice: Much of Montas' troubles were self-inflicted, as he issued five free passes and threw just 34 of 66 pitches for strikes. It didn't help that he was hit hard when getting Mariners batters to swing -- two of the three hits against him left the park. Montas began the season looking great, going 2-0 and allowing just one run over 11.2 frames across his first two starts. However, he's faltered with two straight losses during which he's yielded 10 runs (eight earned) over seven innings. Montas will look to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively lined up to come at home against the Angels this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:08 pm

    • Frankie Montas gives up five runs in defeat
Frankie Montas was charged with five runs in two-plus innings against the Mariners on Monday.

Advice: Jorge Polanco and Mitch Haniger homered off him. Montas averaged just 92.6 mph with his fastball tonight, which seems concerning. He averaged 95.4, 93.7 and 94.3 in his first three starts of the year, and he was working on five days’ rest tonight. Montas came into the game 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA, but we don’t entirely trust him even at full strength and now it doesn’t look like he is at full strength. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:54 pm

    • Earns win in season debut
Lorenzen (1-0) allowed zero runs on three hits while walking five to earn the win Monday against the Tigers. He struck out four.

Advice: Lorenzen struggled with his command as evidenced by the five walks allowed but induced a fifth-inning double play by Mark Canha to close out his night unscathed and earn the victory in his first start of the season. The veteran righty signed with the Rangers in late March after coming off a career-high 153 innings split between the Tigers and Phillies last season. He tossed 79 pitches and will look to increase that total while improving his control during his next start, tentatively slated to take place over the weekend in Atlanta. • Nursing calf issue
Cronenworth left Monday's game against the Brewers after experiencing tightness in his calf, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Cronenworth reportedly felt the issue while trying to reach base on a groundout during the eighth inning, but skipper Mike Shildt said after the game that it's too early to know if the injury will force Cronenworth to miss additional time. The 30-year-old will be considered day-to-day until the medical staff has more information to share. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:31 pm

    • Twirls gem against Rockies
Nola didn't factor into the decision Monday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over 7.1 innings against Colorado.

Advice: Nola turned in his best start of the season Monday, picking up a second consecutive quality start and surpassing four strikeouts for the first time. The only damage against Nola came in the fifth inning when Michael Toglia clubbed a solo home run. Although Nola owns a 3.47 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP, he's been particularly susceptible to the long ball (1.9 HR/9 in 2024), a trend worth monitoring after giving up 1.5 HR/9 in 2023. Nola's projected to cap off a two-start week Sunday against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:26 pm

    • Crumbles in ninth
Hader yielded four runs on four hits and a walk in Monday's loss to Atlanta. He recorded one out via strikeout.

Advice: Hader entered the game in a non-save situation with Atlanta leading 2-1. He put five straight runners on base and threw a wild pitch, resulting in four runs to be charged against him. The All-Star closer has not yet found any consistency in his first season with Houston; Hader has just one save with a 9.39 ERA through 7.2 frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:25 pm

    • Josh Hader gives up four, gets one out against ATL
Josh Hader gave up four runs while getting just one out in a relief appearance against Atlanta on Monday.

Advice: On top of allowing four runs, this outing came in a non-save situation, so fantasy managers who roster Hader have the right to be doubly perturbed by how the southpaw pitched. Some of the damage occurred after the 30-year-old exited the game, but to say he was deserving of a poor result is an understatement. Hader should be fine, but fantasy managers will need a load of scoreless innings in order to make up for this one. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:18 pm

    • Notches third save
McArthur picked up the save Monday against the White Sox. He pitched one shutout inning with two strikeouts.

Advice: McArthur loves pitching against the White Sox, as all three of his saves on the season have come against Chicago. After a shaky start to the season, he has now tossed five scoreless outings over 5.2 innings. McArthur looks to have fully supplanted Will Smith from the closer's role as the veteran lefty had plenty of rest coming into Monday, but Royals manager Matt Quatraro clearly favored McArthur in the save situation. • Jackson Merrill sparks Padres to win over Brewers
Jackson Merrill went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one stolen base on Monday, leading the Padres to a 7-3 victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Merrill served as San Diego’s primary offensive catalyst in this one, extending their lead to a commanding three-run margin with a two-run single off Brewers starter Joe Ross in the fifth inning as part of a three-hit effort. The 20-year-old top prospect has gotten off to a sublime start this season, batting .356 (21-for-59) with 12 runs scored, one homer, seven RBI and three steals across 19 games.
