    • Resumes throwing
Musgrove (elbow) played catch Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Friday marks the first time Musgrove has played catch since he landed on the injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation. The 31-year-old righty said everything looked good after receiving an MRI, and he still expects to return from the injured list when eligible next Friday. He owns a 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 41 innings this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:55 pm

    • Brewers place Joel Payamps on bereavement list
Brewers placed RHP Joel Payamps on the bereavement list.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to miss the Brewers’ entire weekend series against the Cardinals. Janson Junk was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move to take his place in the bullpen. Expect Bryan Hudson and Elvis Peguero to see action in the eighth inning to set up for closer Trevor Megill. Rotoworld Today, 2:13 pm

    • Goes on bereavement
The Brewers placed Payamps on the bereavement list Friday.

Advice: Payamps will be away for a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games. Trevor Megill had already seemed to inch ahead of Payamps in the Brewers' bullpen hierarchy and now over the next few days should have a clearer path to saves. Rotowire.com Today, 1:22 pm

    • Delivers winning run
Carroll went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

Advice: Carroll delivered the go-ahead run on a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning, a half inning after the Reds plated three runs to tie the game. The outfielder returned to the top of the order this week after a season-opening slump dropped him to the lower third in late April. He's worked through the slow start, which he attributed to a flat swing, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. Carroll has a pop-up rate of 15.2 percent on the season, more than double than what it was in 2023 (7.3 percent). Rotowire.com Today, 4:43 am
    • Records second save in as many days
Kopech earned a save against the Guardians on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over 1.1 innings.

Advice: Kopech's save against Tampa Bay on Wednesday was relatively stress-free, as he entered with a three-run lead. That wasn't the case Thursday -- Kopech was asked to put out a fire in the bottom of the eighth frame after Cleveland slugged back-to-back homers to get to within a run. The right-hander retired David Fry in that inning to quell Cleveland's momentum, then worked around a one-out single in the ninth to finish off the save. The White Sox are among the worst teams in the majors this season, so Kopech may not have as many save opportunities as closers on contenders, but he's emerged the Chicago's clear go-to ninth-inning option with a save in consecutive contests. • Goes deep in second straight game
Conforto went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday in a loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Conforto accounted for San Francisco's only run with a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. It was his second homer in as many days following a 12-game stretch without a long ball. Conforto's power has run hot and cold this season -- he went deep three times over his first five games of the campaign, then homered just twice over his subsequent 29 contests before his current two-game long-ball streak. • Michael Kopech collects four-out save on Thursday
Michael Kopech notched a four-out save on Thursday against the Guardians.

Advice: Kopech was called upon to record the final out of the eighth inning after John Brebbia served up back-to-back two-out homers and then came back out to work a scoreless final frame. It was his fourth save of the season and third consecutive scoreless outing since May 4. The 28-year-old former starter boasts a solid 3.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 26/10 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings (17 appearances). Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:04 pm

    • Conforto hits solo homer in loss to Rockies
Michael Conforto homered while going 2-for-3 in a blowout loss to the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Conforto also drew a walk, so a nice day for him on a day where the rest of the Giants were not very good. The 31-year-old connected on a solo homer off Cal Quantrill and now has seven homers and 20 RBI in the first month-plus of the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:32 pm
    • Corbin Carroll knocks in go-ahead run against Reds
Corbin Carroll knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Thursday to help the D-Backs to a 5-4 win over the Reds.

Advice: In what has been a very disappointing season for Carroll, the 23-year-old came up big Thursday with an RBI single to score Tucker Barnhart that broke a 4-4 tie and ultimately gave Arizona the victory. The 23-year-old was one of the best fantasy players regardless of age, and while his .206/.300/.270 slash is anything but ideal, there’s obvious reasons to believe he’ll bounce back considerably in the summer months.
