    • MRI reveals bone spur in Joe Musgrove’s elbow
      Joe Musgrove underwent an MRI that revealed a bone spur and contusion in his right elbow.

      Advice: Musgrove, who landed on the injured list last weekend with right elbow inflammation, received both a PRP and cortisone injections to address the issue and hopes to resume throwing in roughly two weeks. The 31-year-old righty told reporters arthroscopic surgery is possible if the issue doesn’t improve, but that’s not being considered as an option for now.       Musgrove has been diagnosed with a bone spur and a bone bruise in his right elbow, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Musgrove got PRP and cortisone injections with the hope of resuming throwing in two weeks. However, there is also the caveat that surgery will be required if healing does not occur. That leaves Musgrove's potential timeline to return to the mound unclear, though it would be surprising to see him back on the mound prior to the All-Star break based on this most recent news.       Kikuchi (3-5) earned the win Thursday over Baltimore, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Kikuchi held the Orioles scoreless through his first five innings, ultimately allowing a lone run on an Adley Rutschman solo home run in the sixth. It was an encouraging rebound effort from the 32-year-old left-hander, who'd given up 10 earned runs over just 8.1 innings in his previous two outings. Kikuchi lowered his ERA to 3.48 on the campaign with a 1.22 WHIP and 71:15 K:BB across 13 starts (72.1 innings). Kikuchi is currently scheduled to face the Brewers on the road in his next outing.       Yusei Kikuchi allowed just a run over six innings against the Orioles on Thursday to pick up a win.

      Advice: Kikuchi struck out six while scattering four hits with just one walk. It’s a vastly improved effort from the one Saturday against the Pirates when the southpaw allowed six runs on nine hits in that loss. Consistency has never been Kikuchi’s forte, but outside of a solo homer allowed to Adley Rutschman, this was a reminder of what the 32-year-old is capable of.       Cease (5-5) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Angels.

      Advice: Cease took his third loss in five outings. He was done in by the long ball again, as Nolan Schanuel took him deep to lead off the bottom of the first inning and Zach Neto added a two-run blast in the second. Cease has surrendered six homers during his five-start winless stretch. The right-hander is now at a 3.51 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 93:22 K:BB over 77 innings across 13 starts this season. He's not having a bad year by any means -- his 2.6 BB/9 is the best of his career. Cease will look to snap his skid in his next start, tentatively projected to be at home versus the Athletics.       Berrios allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday.

      Advice: Berrios didn't do much in the strikeout department with just two punchouts, but he was nonetheless very effective in recording his fifth straight quality start. The right-hander has just one win during that span but has put up a very solid 2.73 ERA. Aside from an eight-run, 3.2 inning blowup against Philadelphia on May 7, Berrios has been a model of consistency this season, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his other 12 starts.       Kopech (1-6) allowed a solo home run to the only batter he faced, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Cubs.

      Advice: Kopech was taken deep by Mike Tauchman as the Cubs won in walk-off fashion. It's been tough sledding for Kopech lately -- he's allowed five runs (four earned) over his last 2.2 innings, taking the loss in three of his last four appearances. The right-hander is now at a 4.21 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB through 25.2 innings while adding five saves, a hold and two blown saves. If he continues to struggle, Kopech could eventually lose his high-leverage role, though the White Sox's poor play overall has made it difficult for any of the team's relievers to put up saves.       Advice: Berríos delivered a sixth straight quality start, though he has only one win during the span. Tonight’s outing did nothing at all for his FIP, which has lagged way behind his ERA all year, but he continued to defy his peripherals in finishing the game with two strikeouts, three walks and a homer allowed (a solo shot to Anthony Santander).
