• José Ramírez triples in blowout win over A’s
José Ramírez tripled and drove in a run during Thursday’s blowout win over the Athletics.

Advice: Ramírez plated Steven Kwan with his triple and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from David Fry. That was the only hit in the game for the perennial MVP candidate, but if you’re only gonna get one knock, why not make it a triple? Expect plenty more big games for Ramírez throughout the 2024 season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:48 pm
  • Guardians put Gavin Williams (elbow) on 15-day IL
Guardians placed RHP Gavin Williams on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: As expected, Williams will open the season on the injured list and isn’t expected to start a throwing program until early April. The 24-year-old righty isn’t facing a lengthy absence, but he’s going to require at least a few weeks to build up his pitch count and stamina before making his season debut. Here’s the full lineup: Steven Kwan LF, Ramírez 3B, Ramón Laureano RF, Josh Naylor 1B, David Fry DH, Tyler Freeman CF, Andrés Giménez 2B, Austin Hedges C and Brayan Rocchio SS. • Julio Rodríguez headlines M’s Opening Day lineup
Julio Rodríguez is in center field and batting second for Thursday’s Opening Day showdown against the Red Sox.

Crawford SS, Rodríguez CF, Jorge Polanco 2B, Mitch Garver DH, Cal Raleigh C, Mitch Haniger RF, Dominic Canzone LF, Ty France 1B, Josh Rojas 3B. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:35 pm

  • Julio Rodríguez crushes two-run homer in victory
Julio Rodríguez finished his Cactus League season in style on Tuesday, clobbering a two-run homer as the Mariners eked out a 7-6 victory over the Padres.

Advice: Rodríguez had just one at-bat in the ballgame and made the most of it, tagging Padres’ right-hander Michael King for a two-run blast in the home half of the first inning. He finishes the spring hitting a robust .394 (13-for-33) with two homers, seven RBI and one stolen base in 14 ballgames. A consensus top-five option in fantasy drafts, Rodríguez looks poised to hit the ground running when the regular season kicks off on Thursday. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:23 pm
  • IL move official
The Cardinals placed Gray (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: St. Louis already confirmed Gray would begin the season on the injured list, and that transaction is now official. The right-hander is scheduled to pitch in a minor-league game Thursday as he continues to ramp up his throwing program, and he could be ready to join the Cardinals' rotation in the second week of April when first eligible. • Charlie Morton pitches three innings in relief
Charlie Morton pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four Tuesday against the Twins.

Advice: Morton was expected to start today, but he instead entered to begin the third inning. That meant he missed most Twins regulars, who were done after one at-bat. Morton’s velocity was down 1.5-3 mph on all of his pitches today, which is a tad concerning. It’ll be a bigger deal if he doesn’t bounce back in his regular-season debut Monday against the White Sox. • In line to bat second
Guerrero is expected to open the season batting second for the Blue Jays, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

Advice: The overwhelming majority of Guerrero's starts last season came from the third (110 games) or fourth (36 games) spots in the Toronto batting order. However, manager John Schneider basically confirmed Tuesday that he planned to slide Guerrero up to the No. 2 hole in between George Springer and Bo Bichette. Justin Turner will follow them in the cleanup spot. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:09 pm
