• Idle Friday
O'Hoppe isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday versus the Royals.

Advice: O'Hoppe will get a breather Friday after tallying six hits across his last three games. While he rests, Matt Thaiss will fill in as Los Angeles' backstop and bat sixth. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Kyle Tucker blasts 12th homer in win over Tigers
Kyle Tucker blasted his league-leading 12th home run on Friday night, helping to power the Astros to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers in the opener of their three-game set in Motown.

Advice: Tucker finally got the Astros on the board in this one with his 409-foot (106.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Casey Mize in the sixth inning. He also drew a pair of walks and scored twice in the contest, finishing the night 1-for-3. On the season, the 27-year-old superstar outfielder is slashing .270/.391/.574 to go with the aforementioned 12 long balls, 26 RBI and six stolen bases. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Josh Hader slams door on Tigers on Friday night
Josh Hader picked up his fifth save of the season on Friday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a three-run advantage against the Tigers.

Advice: After struggling for most of the season, Hader recorded saves on back-to-back nights for the first time all season. The 30-year-old southpaw did issue a two-out walk to Jake Rogers after getting Ryan Vilade on a swinging-third strike, Javier Baez on a fly ball to center, but he battled back to get Andy Ibanez on strikes to end it. He has now converted five of his first six save chances with an impressive 27/8 K/BB ratio over 17 innings on the year — it’s just the 5.29 ERA that looks horribly out of place. • Framber Valdez defeats Tigers to improve to 2-1
Framber Valdez pitched well in Friday night’s victory over the Tigers, allowing only two runs on six hits over seven frames.

Advice: Valdez walked two and punched out four on the night. He surrendered a two-run double to Matt Vierling in the third inning, but kept the Tigers’ off the board the remainder of his night — affording his offense the opportunity to come back and earn him a win, which they finally did in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old southpaw got 10 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a 3.64 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio (29 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Matt Vierling plates two runs in loss to Astros
Matt Vierling doubled and drove in a pair of runs on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Tigers and their pathetic offense over the Astros.

Advice: Vierling opened the scoring in the contest with his two-run double off of Framber Valdez in the third inning. That would be the extent of the Tigers’ offense in the contest., spoiling yet another terrific pitching performance from their starting rotation. Vierling finished the evening 1-for-4 and is now hitting .280/.304/.439 with three homers and 15 RBI. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Andy Ibáñez swipes base in loss to Astros
Andy Ibáñez went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and a stolen base on Friday evening as the Tigers fell to the visiting Astros.

Advice: The known lefty-masher collected both of his hits off of Astros’ southpaw Framber Valdez. He singled in the third inning and raced around to score on Matt Vierling’s two-run double. He also added a single in the fifth inning and swiped second base to get himself into scoring position, but the Tigers were unable to cash him in. The 31-year-old infielder has impressed in his limited action this season, slashing a robust .349/.348/.512 with two homers, seven RBI and a swipe in 45 plate appearances. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Casey Mize logs quality start in no-decision
Casey Mize logged a quality start in a tough-luck no-decision on Friday night, holding the Astros to just one run on five hits over six strong innings of work.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of free passes while striking out two batters on the night. The lone tally against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Kyle Tucker in the sixth inning. Aside from that, Mize was in complete command. He got 10 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the night — five on his heater which averaged 95.5 mph — while posting a CSW of 20 percent. Mize has actually pitched well through his first seven starts, compiling a 3.58 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 26/9 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings of work. He’ll do battle against the Marlins his next time out at home on Wednesday. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Joey Estes will start for Athletics on Saturday
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters on Friday that Joey Estes will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to start on Saturday.

Advice: That means that everyone else in the A’s rotation will get pushed back a day, with Alex Wood moving from Saturday to Sunday. Estes, 22, holds a 6.04 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 26/10 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 innings in six starts at the Triple-A level this season. He’s not a recommended streaming option against the Mariners on Saturday. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Reports to big-league club
The Angels activated Goodrum on Friday.

Advice: Goodrum had been with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate when he was DFA'd and later claimed by the Angels, but he will return to the majors as replacement depth for Ehire Adrianza, (back) who landed on the injured list Friday. Goodrum has experience at every position other than catcher, though he will likely return to the minors once Los Angeles' heavily-depleted infield unit begins returning from the IL.
