The only other catcher in Red Sox history with a hitting streak of 17 games or longer is Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk, who reached that number twice between the 1975 and 1976 seasons.     Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

    Advice: The 32-year-old catcher tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning by taking Colin Holderman deep. It was Contreras' seventh homer of the year but his first in nine games since returning from a fractured forearm, a stretch in which he's batting just .200 (6-for-30). He does have extra-base hits in back-to-back contests after ripping a double Tuesday, however, so he's showing signs of regaining his form at the plate.     Advice: The All-Star catcher just keeps hitting. Contreras collected three base hits against the Rockies on Wednesday, though didn’t have a run or RBI to show for it.     Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Cardinals’ extra-inning loss at the hands of the Pirates.

    Advice: Contreras walloped a game-tying shot off Pirates reliever Colin Holderman, who has been outstanding this season in a setup role for Pittsburgh, in the eighth inning to help send this one to extra innings. It was his lone hit in three at-bats, but he also drew a pair of walks in this one.     Mitch Garver (wrist) was held out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for the second consecutive night on Wednesday.

    Advice: Garver was pulled from Sunday’s game with a right wrist contusion after being hit by a pitch and then sat out Tuesday’s contest as well. There’s no indication that he’s dealing with any structural damage or that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, so it sounds like the M’s will continue to take things day-to-day.
