    • Ryan Helsley locks down 28th save Wednesday
      Ryan Helsley tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save in the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves on Wednesday.

      Advice: Helsley was summoned to close it out in the ninth with a three-run lead against the Braves. He recorded the first out, then allowed two runners on with a single and a walk. A groundout put both runners in scoring position and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. He Helsley struck out the final batter to end the game with his MLB-leading 28th save.     • Shane Baz fans seven in latest start at Triple-A
      Shane Baz delivered another strong start at Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, giving up two runs on six hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the night while issuing two free passes. Baz got up to 93 pitches in the ballgame, throwing 59 of them for strikes. He’ll continue to dominate at the Triple-A level until the Rays have had enough of Aaron Civale, or until they gain another year of team control over him following the All-Star break.     • Workload 'going to start dwindling'
      White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday of Crochet that "we're going to start dwindling his workload down a little bit," the Associated Press reports.

      Advice: Crochet already sits at 94.1 innings in 2024 in his first pro season as a starting pitcher. He threw zero innings in 2022 and just 25 frames in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his highest innings total in college at Tennessee was 65. Therefore, his workload being curtailed at some point was inevitable. Grifol didn't divulge any specifics in regards to pitch counts or innings totals for Crochet, indicating he'll be flexible start-to-start based on how efficient the pitcher is. The manager also didn't mention anything about Crochet being shut down completely at some point, although it's certainly possible that will happen.       Suarez (10-2) took the loss against the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings.

      Advice: Suarez opened with four scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing four runs on five hits in the frame. He rebounded with a scoreless sixth but departed with a 4-0 deficit. This was just the second time Suarez allowed four earned runs in an outing this season, as he had allowed only four total earned runs in 20.1 June innings prior to Tuesday.     • Ranger Suárez stumbles in loss to Tigers
      Ranger Suárez allowed four runs over six innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Tigers.

      Advice: Suárez was simply outdueled by Tigers ace Tarik Skubal on Tuesday night at Comerica Park as the pair traded zeroes until the fifth inning when Detroit’s lineup struck for four runs on five hits in the frame. He finished with four punchouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. It was just the second time this season through 16 starts that he’s allowed four earned runs or more.       Helsley allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in the ninth inning Monday, striking out two and earning a save against Atlanta.

      Advice: Helsley loaded the bases with just one out but managed to escape with a save in the 4-3 win. It was the second time this month he's allowed multiple runs in an appearance, and the third time in his last 13 outings. Despite the recent shakiness, Helsley has converted 27 consecutive save chances since blowing his first opportunity of the year. He owns a 2.83 ERA and a 42:15 K:BB through 35 innings.     • Tosses 5.2 scoreless frames Monday
      Crochet took a no-decision against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing five hits and striking out six batters over 5.2 scoreless innings.

      Advice: Crochet was on his game with 16 whiffs and six punchouts against one of MLB's top offenses, but Dodgers starter James Paxton traded scoreless frames with him, and both hurlers had to settle for a no-decision. Crochet continues to impress in what has been a breakout first campaign as a starter -- he lowered his ERA to 3.05 with Monday's outing and ranks second in the league with 130 strikeouts.       Garrett Crochet allowed no runs in 5 2/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Dodgers on Monday.



      Advice: Crochet gave up five hits, walked none and struck out six. It was a pretty good effort considering he was facing the Dodgers, but the White Sox couldn’t score any runs to support Crochet. He was one out away from a quality start, breaking a streak of six consecutive quality starts. Crochet continues to build a potential Cy Young award case with a 3.05 ERA and 130 strikeouts on the season. There’s no doubt he’s been a fantasy MVP, though.       Ryan Helsley allowed two runs and picked up the save against the Braves on Monday.

      Advice: It was an eventful ninth inning in St. Louis. Helsley entered with a 4-1 lead and proceeded to load the bases on two walks and a hit. With one out, Ramon Laureano singled to make it a 4-2 game and Travis d’Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly to bring the Braves within a run. Helsley then struck out Zack Short on a slider to end the ballgame. His ERA is up to 2.83 now, but fantasy managers can’t complain with 27 saves already in the bank. Rotoworld Monday, 7:17 pm
