  • Kazmir strong in seven innings vs Astros
Scott Kazmir went seven innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Astros, giving up seven hits, striking out six and walking one.

Advice: Kazmir had long since hit the showers when Houston pulled out the win in the 12th, but he put in another sterling effort while he was on the mound. Chris Carter served as Kazmir's nemesis, knocking in both of the runs on Kazmir's line (one was unearned) via a third inning two-run single. While he didn't pick up his fourteenth win on Tuesday, Kazmir is still holding batters to a fantastic .210 BAA to go with a 2.32 ERA. He's allowed only 94 hits in 122 innings pitched. He'll look for a win against the Rangers next time out. Rotoworld.com

  • Hardy doubles twice in win over Angels
J.J. Hardy went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's meeting with the Angels.

Advice: He now has 21 doubles on the season, to go with 30 RBI and a slash line of .284/.316/.380 His power outage through the first three months of the season has been well documented. If you're looking to buy low on an infielder, Hardy is a possible candidate, though at this point it's hard to trust him. July has been a rough month for the shortstop, as he's scuffled to the tune of .220/.281/.356. Rotoworld.com

  • deGrom pitches third straight gem vs Mariners
Jacob deGrom threw seven innings of one-run ball against the Mariners to pick up his fourth win on Tuesday.

Advice: Jacob deGrom tossed a third straight gem on Tuesday, striking out seven and walking just one over seven frames. It's the sixth straight start in which deGrom has not allowed more than three runs. In the process, he's dropped his ERA to 3.01. This is also the third straight start in which deGrom's gone seven innings. If he can keep lasting deep into games, he'll continue to provide nice strikeout and ERA boosts. He'll square off with the Brewers next time out. Rotoworld.com

  • Montero's two-run 8th inning single sinks DET
Miguel Montero went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth to give the Diamondbacks a 5-4 win over the Tigers.

Advice: After Torii Hunter knocked in two to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead in the eighth, Miguel Montero answered with a two-run hit of his own in the bottom of the frame. He's done a nice job holding down the four-spot in Arizona's lineup. The All Star catcher now has 58 RBI on the season and is slashing .263/.344/.412. Rotoworld.com

  • Anderson holds Tigers to two runs over six IP
Chase Anderson lasted six innings against the Tigers on Tuesday, scattering five hits while striking out five and walking three.

Advice: The damage came on a first inning Miguel Cabrera RBI single and a third inning wild pitch that allowed Austin Jackson to score. Otherwise, Anderson was effective. While the game ended up being decided by the bullpen, this marks back-to-back quality starts for Anderson, whose ERA sits at a solid 3.58. He'll try to keep it going against the Reds in his next outing. Rotoworld.com

  • Lincecum earns 1st career save in 14th inning
Tim Lincecum notched the first save of his eight-year career, coming into Tuesday's game in the 14th inning and getting the final two outs for a Giants win.

Advice: George Kontos started off the inning, but got into trouble when Ryan Howard singled to lead off the frame and Wil Nieves doubled with one out to put runners at second and third. Lincecum allowed Howard to score on a ground out, then walked Cameron Rupp, but was able to get Domonic Brown to ground out to first to end the game. As a starter, Lincecum had made strides lately, and now sports a 3.65 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 108/47 K/BB ratio. Lincecum started on Sunday but should be able to make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Dodgers at home. Rotoworld.com

  • Flande allows three runs in ND against Nats
Yohan Flande allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision against the Nationals on Tuesday.

Advice: Flande actually left in line for his first major league victory, but it wasn't to be as the Rockies bullpen proceeded to blow the lead and the game. The left-hander remains 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.60 WHIP on the year, and the Rockies should be able to find a better option to start in Flande's place before long. Rotoworld.com

  • Zimmermann gives up four runs over five in ND
Jordan Zimmermann allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings of work in a no-decision against the Rockies on Tuesday.

Advice: Zimmermann was vulnerable to the big hit on Tuesday, as the Rockies scored all four of their runs against him on two homers and an RBI triple. He did strike out six while not walking a batter, raising his season K/BB ratio to 107/20 in 118 innings. Zimmermann will carry a 6-5 record and 3.20 ERA into his start at the Marlins early next week. Rotoworld.com

  • Martinez holds Yankees scoreless in a ND
Nick Martinez held the Yankees scoreless over 5 1/3 innings but took a no-decision as the Rangers needed 14 innings to lose by a 2-1 margin.

Advice: Martinez stymied the Yankees, limiting them to only three hits and a walk while striking out three. He left with one out in the sixth, and 67 pitches, after walking Brett Gardner. Martinez's stats aren't pretty, as he owns a 4.73 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 32/32 K/BB ratio. He'll try to improve them all when he takes on the Athletics at home on Sunday. Rotoworld.com

  • Ramirez has two hits, two steals vs. Royals
Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: Ramirez surprised everyone by stealing 30 bases last season, and his two thefts on Tuesday gives him 17 steals on the year. The All-Star's two hits helped to raise his season line to .281/.318/.395. Rotoworld.com

  • Whitley blanks TEX over 6, takes no-decision
Chase Whitley held the Rangers scoreless over six innings, but was given a no-decision on Tuesday.

Advice: Whitley was excellent on Tuesday, a rare bright spot for the young right-hander. The Rangers scratched out seven hits, but six were singles. Whitley did not issue a walk and struck out six in the process. Whitley still carries an ugly 4.60 ERA along with a 1.45 WHIP, and 46/12 K/BB ratio. He'll make his next start against the Blue Jays at home on Sunday. Rotoworld.com

  • Soria blows save as Rangers fall in 14 frames
Joakim Soria blew his second save of the season, forking over a run in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Rangers went on to lose in 14.

Advice: The Rangers had taken a 1-0 lead on J.P. Arencibia's 13th-inning solo home run, but Soria immediately got into trouble, allowing a lead-off double to Brett Gardner in the bottom half. Jacoby Ellsbury later knocked Gardner in with a single. Soria is now 17-for-19 in save chances with a 2.70 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and a 42/4 K/BB ratio. Rotoworld.com

  • Carroll touched for 11 hits, five runs vs. KC
Scott Carroll was roughed up for 11 hits and five runs over five innings in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

Advice: The right-hander, who had allowed just three hits and zero runs over his past two starts combined, gave up five extra-base hits, including a home run, in the loss. He also walked two and struck out three. Carroll owns a 4.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP through 73 2/3 innings, and he's a non-factor for fantasy purposes going forward. Rotoworld.com

  • Headley delivers walk-off hit in Yanks debut
Chase Headley made his Yankees debut in style, delivering a walk-off single in the 14th inning against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: Headley took his first at-bat as a Yankee in the eighth inning and struck out. He stayed in the game, grounding out twice in his next two at-bats before driving in Brian Roberts with his 14th-inning single. The Yankees acquired Headley earlier in the day. Overall, he is slashing .230/.296/.353 with seven home runs and 45 RBI on the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Bailey serves up three homers against Brewers
Homer Bailey allowed three runs, all on solo home runs, over six innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Advice: Bailey only gave up four hits on the night, but three -- to Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Jonathan Lucroy -- left the yard. Bailey also walked two while striking out just three. Bailey has one more start left in July as he looks to avoid a winless month. He's 8-5 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 20 starts overall. Rotoworld.com

  • Rockies recall Yohan Flande from Triple-A

  • Rangers activate Martinez for Tuesday start
Rangers activated RHP Nick Martinez from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Martinez missed a little over two weeks with a left side injury. He will return to the Rangers' starting rotation on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. The 23-year-old righty owns a rough 5.10 ERA and 1.69 WHIP this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Yankees officially acquire 3B Chase Headley
Yankees acquired 3B Chase Headley and cash considerations from the Padres for INF Yangervis Solarte and RHP Rafael De Paula.

Advice: The deal is now official. Headley's stock has plummeted since his breakout season in 2012, but he's a worthwhile gamble for the Yankees given their current options at third base. The 30-year-old has swung the bat better of late and has good road numbers for his career, so it would be no surprise if he finishes his walk year on a high note. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Yankees acquire Headley from Padres
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres.

Advice: Neither team has confirmed the deal, but the Yankees will send infielder Yangervis Solarte and prospect right-hander right-hander Rafael De Paula to the Padres. New York will also receive $1 million from San Diego to help cover part of the nearly $4 million remaining on Headley's contract for this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Yohan Flande to start for Rockies Tuesday
Yohan Flande will be recalled to start on Tuesday against the Nationals.

Advice: The Rockies have decided to give Eddie Butler more time in the minors, and they've opted for Flande over Chris Capuano to start Tuesday's game. Flande held a 7.36 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over three starts earlier this season and can be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Alexei Ramirez held hitless in Friday's win
Alexei Ramirez (back) returned to the White Sox lineup on Friday, going 0-for-4 in a victory over the Astros.

Advice: Ramirez sat out the last two games of the first half due to stiffness in his back, but felt good enough to suit up for the All-Star Game. The 32-year-old shortstop is enjoying a fine season offensively, hitting .279/.315/.396 with eight homers, 41 RBI and 15 stolen bases. Rotoworld.com

  • Homer Bailey (knee) ready for Tuesday start
Homer Bailey (knee) is on track to start Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Advice: Bailey exited his final outing before the All-Star break with pain in his right patellar tendon, but he's feeling much better following a week of rest. The right-hander has put up a 4.21 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 105/38 K/BB ratio in 117 2/3 innings this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Zimmermann to start for Nationals on Tuesday
Jordan Zimmermann (biceps) is scheduled to start for the Nationals on Tuesday in Colorado.

Advice: Zimmermann had to leave his last outing prior to the All-Star break with a strained biceps, but he played catch Thursday and will throw a bullpen session Saturday. The right-hander has put up a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP for the Nationals this season. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 12:51 pm
  • Jordan Zimmermann (biceps) won't go on DL
Jordan Zimmermann (biceps) will throw a bullpen session on Friday or Saturday.

Advice: Assuming he gets through it with no issues, Zimmermann will avoid the disabled list and be cleared to rejoin the Nationals' rotation next week. The right-hander had to leave his last outing prior to the All-Star break with a strained biceps, but obviously the ailment is considered minor. He's up up a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP this season. • Tigers in 'ongoing discussions' for Soria
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Tigers are having "ongoing discussions" with the Rangers regarding Joakim Soria.

Advice: The Angels and Blue Jays have also been connected to Soria. The Tigers are committed to keeping Joe Nathan in the closer role, so Soria would be used as a setup man if acquired. They're also looking at former Tiger and current Padre Joaquin Benoit. The veteran reliever boasts a 2.67 ERA and 40/4 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings this season for the Rangers. Rotoworld.com
