    • George Kirby posts quality start in no-decision
George Kirby logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, giving up three runs on seven hits over his six-plus frames.

Advice: The right-hander racked up eight strikeouts on the day while allowing only one base on balls. The Jays scratched out a run against him in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Kirk. Kirby then allowed a pair of singles to start the seventh inning before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and both runs ultimately scored. The 26-year-old hurler got 16 swings and misses on 93 pitches in the contest — 10 of those on his heater — while posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll look to finish his first half strong as he brings a 3.39 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 109/11 K/BB ratio (111 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Angels in Los Angeles. • Freddie Freeman one of six Dodgers named All-Stars
Freddie Freeman was named to his eighth National League All-Star team on Sunday.

Advice: Freeman is one of six Dodgers to be named to the National League squad. Shohei Ohtani had already been named as the league’s starting designated hitter and Tyler Glasnow was named among the pitchers on Sunday. In addition, Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith and Mookie Betts were named to the team with Freeman as reserves. Joining them as All-Star reserves announced on Sunday were Elly De La Cruz, CJ Abrams, Ryan McMahon, Jackson Merrill, Heliot Ramos, Bryan Reynolds, Marcell Ozuna, Luis Arraez and Pete Alonso. • Ezequiel Tovar goes hitless yet again in loss
Ezequiel Tovar remained hitless for the month of July after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Royals on Sunday.

Advice: Tovar was the clear choice to serve as the Rockies’ token All-Star a couple of weeks ago, but he’s been brutal of late, going 6-for-50 with one extra-base hit, one RBI, zero runs scored and a 20/0 K/BB in his last 12 games. It’s dropped his OPS from .808 to .734. Ryan McMahon might now be the best bet to be the Rockies’ All-Star, with Cal Quantrill and last year’s All-Star Game MVP Elias Díaz also in the mix. • Not starting Sunday
Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Gurriel will hit the bench after making 12 straight starts, and he posted a .320/.333/.600 slash line with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI during that span. Jake McCarthy will receive a start in left field Sunday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:09 pm
    • Taking seat Sunday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Jeffers has moved into a timeshare with Christian Vazquez, as neither of the two has started consecutive games since Jeffers served as a designated hitter June 1 in Houston before working behind the plate a day later in the series finale. It'll be Vazquez's turn to catch Sunday after Jeffers went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 9-3 win. Rotowire.com Today, 10:58 am

    • Tallies three hits, RBI
Kim went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's loss to Arizona.

Advice: Kim opened the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff double and eventually advanced to third before being left stranded. However, he came right back with hits in each of his next two trips to the plate, driving home Donovan Solano with a double in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4. It marked Kim's second three-hit performance this season and his 13th multi-hit game overall. The shortstop has now hit safely in 11 of his last 14 games, though he's still batting just .222 (4-for-18) through five games in July. Rotowire.com Today, 7:55 am

    • Extends hitting streak with homer
Gurriel went 1-for-5 with a solo homer in Saturday's win over the Padres.

Advice: Gurriel jumped on a knuckleball from Matt Waldron to lead off the fourth inning and crushed it into the stands in left-center field to give Arizona a one-run lead. It was the outfielder's third home run in his last eight games and he's now hit safely in five straight contests to open the month of July. Gurriel has also tallied multiple hits in 10 of his last 16 games, batting .358 (24-for-67) over that stretch with four homers, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 7:43 am
    • Belts game-winning homer
Semien went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays.

Advice: With the Rangers down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Semien got hold of a Kevin Kelly two-seamer on the inner half of the plate and drove it over the left-field wall for the game-winning hit. The second baseman snapped a 22-game homer drought with the blast, a stretch in which he'd stumbled to a .143/.196/.176 slash line. Semien's current .679 OPS on the season would be his lowest mark since the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, but he's still on pace for his fourth straight campaign with at least 20 home runs and 80 RBI, and the 33-year-old has plenty of time to kick his offense into a higher gear. • Carries offense in loss
Diaz went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and a three-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers.

Advice: His seventh-inning shot off Jacob Latz gave the Rays a brief lead, but the bullpen immediately squandered it in the bottom of the frame. Four of Diaz's eight homers on the season have come in his last 14 games, a stretch in which he's slashing .311/.344/.574 with four doubles and 12 RBI -- although curiously, the only runs he's scored during that time have come on his own home runs, despite the fact that he's consistently batting leadoff for Tampa Bay.
