    • Davis Daniel goes eight scoreless in 2024 debut
David Daniel shut out the Tigers for eight innings and struck out eight to prevail in his 2024 debut Thursday.

Advice: Daniel allowed just four hits in the 5-0 victory for the Angels. His velocity was actually down from his major league outings last year — he averaged 91.7 mph and topped out at 93.0 mph with his fastball tonight — but he induced 13 missed swings and had a 35% CSW. We’re still not particularly optimistic here, even if his peripherals were considerably better than his 5.33 ERA in Triple-A, but it’s certainly a nice start that should serve to keep him in the rotation for now. • Jack Flaherty tagged for three homers in loss
Jack Flaherty lost to the Angels after allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings on Thursday.

Advice: Flaherty surrendered three homers, matching his total from his previous six starts combined. He struck out seven and walked just one, but there was no overcoming the longball in this one. It’s the first time since Apr. 24 that he’s allowed more than three runs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Akil Baddoo strikes out three times
Akil Baddoo struck out all three times up against the Angels on Thursday.

Advice: Parker Meadows ought to have replaced Baddoo in the Tigers’ outfielder a week or two ago, but maybe it’ll finally happen now. Baddoo is just 3-for-33 this month, and the Tigers would benefit from playing Meadows in center and Riley Greene in a corner. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Swats second homer
Marchan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Marchan belted a solo shot in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. It was the backstop's second long ball over 30 plate appearances this season, which is as many homers as he hit across 224 plate appearances in the minors last year. Marchan has shown much more promise as a contact hitter than as a power hitter during his professional career, though three of his seven hits in the majors this year have gone for extra bases. • Homers among three hits
Burger went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a 7-4 win against Philadelphia on Thursday.

Advice: Burger came up big late in the game, blasting a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning and providing an insurance run with an RBI single in the ninth. The third baseman finished with his first multi-hit performance since June 15, and he had been struggling coming into Thursday with an .083 average (3-for-36) across his previous nine contests. Burger has just seven homers over 59 games this season after smashing a career-high 34 long balls in 141 contests last year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:30 pm

    • Goes 6.2 frames in no-decision
Wheeler allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 6.2 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Thursday.

Advice: Wheeler cruised through six scoreless frames before running into trouble in the seventh. In that inning, he retired the first two batters he faced before allowing back-to-back singles. The right-hander was then given the hook, and both runners came around to score following his departure. Wheeler nonetheless managed a quality start -- his seventh over his past eight outings. He's tied for first in the league with 13 quality starts on the season and has registered a 2.73 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 112:31 K:BB over 105.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:24 pm

    • Records 11th save
Scott earned a save against the Phillies on Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: Scott made quick work of Philadelphia in the ninth frame, retiring the side in order on nine pitches. The lefty closer has not given up a run in any of his past seven outings, tallying a win and three saves despite a mediocre 5:3 K:BB over seven innings during that span. Scott is 11-for-13 in save chances on the season and has an excellent 1.54 ERA across 35 frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:17 pm
    • Springer hits two home runs, drives in six in win
George Springer went 3-for-6 with a double, two home runs and six RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Springer took Carlos Rodon deep in each of the first two innings. He now has eight home runs on the season. Springer has certainly struggled this year with a .205 average and .618 OPS with 23 RBI on the year.

    • Grisham swats fifth home run against Blue Jays
Trent Grisham went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Advice: Grisham provided all of the Yankees offense on Thursday. He hit a two-run home run off Jose Berrios in the fifth inning. It was only his fifth home run of the season, but he should continue to see an increase in playing time in the Yankees outfield with Giancarlo Stanton on the shelf. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:50 pm
