    • Garrett Crochet fires two scoreless innings Friday
Garrett Crochet dominated in two innings of work in a no-decision against the Pirates on Friday night, retiring all six batters that he faced in order.

Advice: Four of those outs came via the strikeout, while Crochet also mixed in a pair of ground balls to third base. The White Sox had hinted that Crochet would be limited in his final start before the break, and he wound up throwing just 28 pitches (22 strikes). He still managed to generate seven swings and misses — leading to an impressive 43 percent CSW in the contest. He finishes the first half and heads into the All-Star game with a 6-6 record, 3.02 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 150/23 K/BB ratio over 107 1/3 innings through his first 20 starts on the year. • Sean Manaea strikes out nine Rockies in win
Sean Manaea struck out nine and allowed three earned runs across seven innings on Friday in a win over the Rockies.

Advice: The Mets spotted Manaea a big lead early and he responded by artfully drifting all the way through the seventh inning. He’s talked about his sweeper having more depth of late and it was working on Friday, forcing five swings-and-misses. This marked the third straight start for Manaea where he completed at least six innings. He hasn’t done that since June of 2022. Rotoworld Friday, 7:21 pm

    • Shohei Ohtani delivers game-winner on Friday
Shohei Ohtani smacked a go-ahead RBI double with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday night, leading the Dodgers to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Tigers in Motown.

Advice: The Dodgers stared at a 3-2 deficit for most of the night but tied things up on a two-out RBI single by Teoscar Hernandez in the eighth inning. Then with runners at the corners and two outs in the ninth, Ohtani crushed a ball over the head of center fielder Riley Greene for an RBI ground-rule double. The 30-year-old superstar finished the night 1-for-5 with a strikeout and is now hitting .312/.396/.624 with 28 homers, 67 RBI and 22 swipes on the season. Rotoworld Friday, 6:55 pm

    • Having workload monitored
Manager Pedro Grifol said Crochet will be on an unspecified pitch count Friday against the Pirates. Additionally, the left-hander will line up to work Chicago's fifth game after the All-Star break, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Advice: Crochet is nearly halfway through his first season as a starter and he's already thrown 105.1 innings, so the White Sox are taking steps to limit his workload. The 25-year-old's name has also been thrown around plenty in trade rumors, so it's not surprising to see the team take steps to ensure he remains healthy. Grifol didn't specify how long Crochet would be able to pitch Friday, or if the restrictions would continue. If he does end up being used as the team's fifth pitcher coming out of the All-Star break, he'd be on schedule to face the Rangers in Texas on 10 days rest. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:54 pm
    • Garrett Crochet to start fifth game out of ASB
White Sox’ manager Pedro Grifol told reporters on Friday that Garrett Crochet will start the team’s fifth game coming out of the All-Star break as they look to manage his overall workload.

Advice: He’s also expected to see limited action in Friday’s start against the Pirates, with Jonathan Cannon following him. The 25-year-old All-Star southpaw has already logged 105 1/3 innings on the year after throwing just 25 innings in 2023 and having never previously exceeded 54 1/3 innings in any professional season. Grifol also noted that Erick Fedde will start the team’s fourth game coming out of the All-Star break. Rotoworld Friday, 2:45 pm
    • Could return after All-Star break
Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Graterol (shoulder) could be activated off the 60-day injured list by the end of July, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Graterol has been on the shelf the entire season due to right shoulder inflammation, but the 25-year-old right-hander has been progressing through his rehab program and was added to the roster of the Dodgers' Arizona Complex League affiliate Friday, per Eric Stephen of SBNation.com. Graterol appeared in 68 games for the Dodgers last season, posting a 1.20 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 67.1 innings while recording seven saves. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:23 pm
    • Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) nears rehab assignment
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) is getting closer to starting a minor league rehab assignment.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since the middle of spring training due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder. Roberts noted that if all goes according to plan, Graterol could be ready to join the team’s bullpen before the end of July. Rotoworld Friday, 2:07 pm
    • Paul Skenes to start All-Star Game for NL
Paul Skenes will start for the National League in next week’s MLB All-Star Game.

Advice: Now it’s official. Skenes will become the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo in 1995. He has a 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 11 starts this year with Pittsburgh. Rotoworld Friday, 10:17 am
    • Report: Skenes could start All-Star Game
Every indication is pointing towards RHP Paul Skenes starting the All-Star Game for the National League, according to Bob Nightengale.

Advice: The starting pitchers won’t be announced until Monday, but National League manager Torey Lovullo noted that Skenes has been an unbelievable addition to and created a lot of interest in the league. Skenes would be the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo in 1995. Rotoworld Friday, 7:16 am
