  • Chapman pulled from game with apparent injury
Aroldis Chapman was pulled from Tuesday's Cactus League game with an apparent injury.

Advice: Chapman appeared to be arguing that he was fine to stay in, but the flame-throwing closer ultimately exited the field with a large contingent of Reds coaches and trainers. Chapman had faced just one batter. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld.com

  • Mijares gets 50-game drug suspension
Major League Baseball has suspended Jose Mijares for 50 games for a drug of abuse.

Advice: Mijares was released by the Reds on March 23 and now may struggle to find another opportunity with an MLB-affiliated club. The 30-year-old left-hander had a 5.06 ERA in 5 1/3 innings this spring in the Cactus League. Rotoworld.com

  • Jon Niese goes six scoreless in win
Jon Niese blanked the Nationals for six innings in the Mets' 2-0 victory Tuesday.

Advice: Niese's shoulder just isn't trustworthy, but he seems to find a way to put up solid numbers anyway. He's 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA this spring, even though he admitted to fatigue in the area last week. He'll probably miss at least a few weeks over the course of the year, but he should have some NL-only value anyway. Rotoworld.com

  • Danny Espinosa hitting .137
Danny Espinosa went 0-for-3 on Tuesday, lowering his spring average to .137.

Advice: Espinosa, now exclusively a right-handed hitter after giving up switch-hitting, has looked so bad this spring that he probably won't be a part of the starting lineup even with Anthony Rendon bound for the disabled list. Most likely, he'll back up Dan Uggla at second and Yunel Escobar at third. Rotoworld.com

  • Francisco Cervelli hits fourth spring homer
Francisco Cervelli had a two-run homer and an RBI single in the Pirates' 7-3 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Advice: Cervelli has four homers in 32 at-bats this spring after hitting just two in 146 at-bats for the Yankees last season. Then again, he has also had four homers in 37 at-bats last spring, so perhaps it's a good idea not to read very much into it. he should be a solid regular for the Pirates after being brought in to replace Russell Martin, but it's not likely to result in a whole lot of fantasy value. • Anthony Rendon to seek third opinion on knee
Anthony Rendon will seek a third opinion from Dr. Steven Singleton regarding his knee injury.

Advice: It should be noted that Rendon, and not the team, has chosen to look for the third opinion. He saw Dr. James Andrews on Monday and a left MCL sprain was the confirmed diagnosis. Rendon has been dealing with this sprain since March 9 and is not expected to be ready for Opening Day. Yunel Escobar is tentatively slated to take his place at the hot corner, though Escobar has not played third since 2007. Rotoworld.com

  • Laird signs five-day extension with D-backs
According to Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona, Gerald Laird has signed a five-day extension with the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Laird had an opt-out in his contract that had to be exercised (or not) by Tuesday. He'll now remain in camp until Sunday. Arizona is desperate for catching options and despite a batting average of just .200 this spring, it's very likely that Laird will make the Opening Day roster. Rotoworld.com

  • Brewers option Juan Centeno to Triple-A
Brewers optioned C Juan Centeno to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Advice: Centeno has a solid glove, though he lacks much pop in his bat (.289/.342/.340 in the minors last season). He'll serve as organizational depth. Rotoworld.com

  • Gaudin (arm) to start season in extended ST
Chad Gaudin (arm) will begin the season in extended spring training.

Advice: Gaudin has been shut down with a nerve injury in his neck that's caused his fingers to tingle. In addition to the neck injury, he also has been battling arm soreness. He'll continue to rest in Arizona until doctors clear him for baseball activities. Rotoworld.com

  • Rockies option Charlie Culberson to minors
Rockies optioned 3B Charlie Culberson to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Culberson's chances of breaking camp with the big club were somewhat hampered by a bulging disk in his back. He missed a stretch from March 8 to March 25. Even had he been healthy, he was a long-shot to make the Opening Day roster. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Rockies. Rotoworld.com

  • Perez reportedly heading to Baltimore
According to Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have acquired C Audry Perez from the Rockies.

Advice: No word yet as to who the Rockies will be receiving in return. Perez will start his journey with the Orioles in Triple-A. With starting catcher Matt Wieters on the DL, the Orioles are clearly looking at as many options as possible. Caleb Joseph is currently slated to start, with Steve Clevenger, Ryan Lavarnway and J.P. Arencibia among the other catchers who could see at-bats if Joseph struggles. Rotoworld.com

  • Brignac opts out of contract
Reid Brignac has elected free agency.

Advice: Brignac, a non-roster invitee this spring, was among the Marlins' final cuts. He hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats with the Phillies last season. At best, he'll find work as a backup utility infielder, but he's not fantasy relevant. Rotoworld.com

  • Phillies release Kevin Slowey
    Phillies released RHP Kevin Slowey.

Advice: In his last two outings, Slowey had allowed nine runs over three innings. He was also part of a benches-clearing incident on Monday. Slowey should be able to latch on with another club, as he's a veteran arm who began Spring Training with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances. Rotoworld.com

  • Marlins send Jordany Valdespin to minors camp
Marlins reassigned 2B Jordany Valdespin to minor league camp.

Advice: Valdespin had a great spring, hitting .378/.425/.595 in 37 at-bats, but he was a long-shot to make the Opening Day roster barring injuries. In his major league career, he's a .218/.273/.372 hitter. As always, be weary of the apparitions of spring. Rotoworld.com

  • Pirates option Holdzkom to Triple-A
Pirates optioned RHP John Holdzkom to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The 27-year old posted a 3.38 ERA while pitching eight spring innings. Should the Pirates need additional bullpen depth, Holdzkom could see a call-up later this year. In 2014, he put up a 1.73 ERA over 36+ innings in the minors. Rotoworld.com

  • Kevin Slowey gives up six runs to Pirates
Kevin Slowey was pounded for six runs -- five earned -- in two innings by the Pirates on Monday.

Advice: Slowey also played a role in the benches-clearing incident in the game, apparently because he quick-pitched Sean Rodriguez, who took exception. Slowey, who opened the spring with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances, has put his roster spot in jeopardy by allowing nine runs -- seven earned -- in three innings his last two times out. • Rendon sees Dr. James Andrews about knee
Anthony Rendon saw Dr. James Andrews on Monday to get a second opinion on his left knee.

Advice: Rendon suffered what was termed as a minor MCL sprain in his knee on March 9, but he continues to feel discomfort and went to Andrews to get some answers. The Nationals are still waiting on his diagnosis, but obviously they need to prepare themselves for the possibility that they will be without him for the early part of the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Laird drives in lone run in loss to Rockies
Gerald Laird plated the Diamondbacks' lone run with a sacrifice fly in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: The veteran backstop had an opportunity to seize the team's starting job behind the plate this spring, but has hit just .200 (5-for-25) with four RBI. He's expected to begin the season as a backup to Tuffy Gosewisch, combining to form the worst catching combination in Major League Baseball. Rotoworld.com

  • Chapman starts, fans the side vs. Cubs
Aroldis Chapman started Saturday's game against the Cubs and struck out the side in his only inning of work.

Advice: Chapman struck out Dexter Fowler, Arismendy Alcantara, and Jorge Soler in succession. The fireballing lefty is sitting on a 16/3 K/BB ratio in 11 spring innings. Manager Bryan Price said prior to the game that "there might be opportunities" to use Chapman for more than three outs during the regular season, per MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. Rotoworld.com

  • Rendon (knee) does lateral jogging Friday
Anthony Rendon (knee) did light jogging on Friday with an emphasis on lateral movement.

Advice: Rendon was testing his left knee as he's attempting to rehab from a minor MCL sprain that has shut him down since March 9. The young infielder has no issues when running straight ahead, but continues to have trouble when moving side to side. He still has his sights set on being a part of the Nationals lineup on Opening Day, and barring any setbacks that goal could be realistic. Rotoworld.com

  • Chad Gaudin (neck) shut down for now
The Dodgers have shut down Chad Gaudin (arm) for the time being and are awaiting his MRI results.

Advice: The veteran right-hander has dealt with a variety of ailments in spring camp, including a tweak in his throwing arm and tingling in his fingers due to nerve issues in his neck. He will remain shut down until the team can determine the cause of his ailments. Rotoworld.com

  • Niese has had shoulder fatigue this spring
Jon Niese admitted Thursday to battling fatigue in his left shoulder this spring.

Advice: He tweaked his delivery during an intrasquad game Thursday and said the shoulder "actually felt a lot better. I wasn’t fatigued at the end." Niese has dealt with shoulder problems each of the last two seasons and it seems clear at this point that he's probably never going to pitch at 100 percent again. There's been no indication that the shoulder will affect his readiness for Opening Day, but the ailment certainly lowers Niese's ceiling and makes him susceptible to stints on the disabled list. • Chad Gaudin (neck) to be examined
Chad Gaudin will be examined after feeling tingling in his fingers due to the ongoing nerve issues in his neck.

Advice: Gaudin had surgery a couple years ago but has never been able to totally shake the nerve problems, as this is the second time in the last week he's had issues. He's been shut down and will be sent for an exam before the next course of action is determined. Rotoworld.com

  • Culberson (back) plays in minor league game
Charlie Culberson (back) played in a minor league game Wednesday.

Advice: Culberson hasn't played in the Cactus League since March 8 due to a bulging disk in his back, but he got in four innings in the minors game. Culberson played defense and batted in the game. His extended absence has hurt his chances of breaking camp with the club. Rotoworld.com

  • Kevin Slowey gives up three runs in relief
Kevin Slowey gave up three runs -- two earned -- in one inning of relief Wednesday against the Astros.

Advice: We're not sure why Slowey got booted from the rotation mix; he allowed one hit over five scoreless innings in his first two starts, but he's made four straight relief appearances since, throwing a total of 4 2/3 innings. He has a good shot of making the Phillies as a reliever, but he probably would have been their best internal option for the fifth spot in the rotation. Rotoworld.com

  • Rendon (knee) in doubt for Opening Day
Anthony Rendon underwent another MRI Tuesday which showed that the MCL in his left knee is healing, but still sprained.

Advice: Rendon suffered a minor MCL sprain on March 9 and he's not back to 100 percent yet, as he told James Wagner of the Washington Post that he still felt something in the knee while doing rotational exercises. The Nationals haven't ruled out the possibility completely, but it's increasingly clear that Rendon will not be ready for the start of the season. Those who were considering Rendon as a late first-round or early second-round pick in mixed fantasy leagues might have to think twice. Rotoworld.com

  • Jordany Valdespin triples in Marlins' victory
Jordany Valdespin had a two-run triple in his lone at-bat Tuesday as the Marlins beat the Red Sox 9-4.

Advice: With the Marlins giving more playing time to the actual candidates to make their roster, Valdespin has seen less action during the second half of the spring. He's impressed with his .379 average, three triples and eight RBI, but the Marlins still aren't going to carry him unless someone gets hurt. Rotoworld.com

    Reds released LHP Jose Mijares.

Advice: Mijares, a non-roster invitee this spring, posted a 5.06 ERA with 4/1 K/BB ratio over 5 1/3 innings during Cactus League action. The 30-year-old will attempt to latch on elsewhere. Rotoworld.com

  • Rendon (knee) might not be ready for opener
Nationals manager Matt Williams said Monday that Anthony Rendon's left knee remains sore.

Advice: Rendon suffered a minor MCL spain on March 9 and it still causes him discomfort when he tries to hit. Opening Day is just two weeks away and Rendon has logged only nine Grapefruit League at-bats. He could begin the season on the disabled list. Rotoworld.com
    Mar 23, 6:46 am
  • Rendon (knee) cleared for baseball activities
Nationals manager Matt Williams said Anthony Rendon (knee) has been cleared to do baseball activities.

Advice: "He'll start to throw. He'll start to run. He'll start to do the things he needs to do ... but with that type of nagging injury, it can stay around a while. The good thing about it is that structurally, he's fine," Williams said. Rendon suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee early in camp and he's been sidelined for much of spring. Despite the injury, the team is hopeful he'll be ready for Opening Day. Rotoworld.com

  • Gaudin alright after 'a little tweak' in arm
Chad Gaudin said he's alright after feeling "a little tweak" in his upper right arm Saturday.

Advice: Gaudin was removed from his Saturday start in the third inning due to the injury, but it appears to be a false alarm. The right-hander has been given a window of opportunity to win a starting job with the Dodgers with Hyun-Jin Ryu set to begin the season on the disabled list. He's likely to take his next turn. • Gaudin leaves start with undisclosed injury
Chad Gaudin left his Cactus League start Sunday with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Gaudin had dealt for two innings before getting hit hard in the third. Ultimately, catcher A.J. Ellis came out and called for the trainer. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly opted to remove Gaudin, and the Dodgers should provide an update on his injury shortly. Rotoworld.com
