  • Report: Giants have reached out to 3B Headley
The Giants have reached out to free agent Chase Headley, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Advice: That's not surprising, with Pablo Sandoval leaving to sign with the Red Sox on Tuesday. Heyman does note that, despite their contact with Headley, that the Giants "seem more enthused ... about some of the outfield options." The Indians and Yankees are among the other teams interested in Headley. Rotoworld.com

  • Castillo set to begin Winter League ball
Rusney Castillo will travel to Puerto Rico this week to begin playing winter league ball, the team announced Tuesday.

Advice: Castillo incurred a thumb muscle injury during the Arizona Fall League, but it has healed in time for him to get in some more at-bats in the Puerto Rican Winter League. The 27-year-old will only play until December, the team said. Castillo will be a regular in the Red Sox outfield next season and has a skillset that should play well in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Red Sox designate Francisco for assignment
Red Sox designated 3B Juan Francisco for assignment.

Advice: Francisco's stay in Boston was brief, as the team grabbed him off waivers from the Blue Jays less than a week prior. Francisco was insurance in the event the club couldn't land a big-name third baseman. He was DFA'd to make room for Hanley Ramirez, but Francisco won't be out of a job for long. Rotoworld.com

  • Angels outright Jackson Williams to Triple-A
Angels sent C Jackson Williams outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Williams was designated for assignment by Anaheim last week and passed through waivers without drawing a claim. The 28-year-old catcher will function as organizational depth for Anaheim in 2015. Rotoworld.com

  • Rays willing to listen on SS Yunel Escobar
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports the Rays are willing to listen to trade offers for Yunel Escobar.

Advice: The Rays, Rosenthal notes, are willing to listen on just about anyone. In Escobar, a team would be acquiring a good defensive shortstop -- if 2014 was the statistical outlier -- with a team-friendly deal through 2017, potentially. If Escobar were to be dealt, the Rays have other internal shortstop options in Ben Zobrist and possibly Nick Franklin who could fill in in the short term. Rotoworld.com

  • Angels outright Alfredo Marte to AAA level
Angels sent OF Alfredo Marte outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Marte was designated for assignment last week and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 25-year-old outfielder posted an awful .170/.221/.292 slash line in 114 plate appearances this past season for the Diamondbacks. Anaheim claimed him from Arizona in August. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Roth elects to become free agent
Michael Roth has elected to become a free agent.

Advice: Roth was designated for assignment last week but had the option to test the open market and took it. The 24-year-old left-hander has a rough 7.79 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 32 1/3 career major league innings. Rotoworld.com

  • Jim Adduci signs contract with Korean team
Jim Adduci has signed a one-year, $650,000 contract with the Lotte Giants of the KBO.

Advice: Adduci was released by the Rangers earlier this week so that he could pursue this better-paying opportunity in Korea. The 29-year-old outfielder batted just .168/.239/.228 in 114 plate appearances this past season for Texas. He was a 42nd-round pick of the Marlins in 2003. Rotoworld.com

  • Harrell agrees to $900K contract in Korea
Lucas Harrell has agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract with Korea's LG Twins.

Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander had a 9.49 ERA in three starts this past season with the Astros and likely would have had to settle for a non-guaranteed minor league contract had he remained in the United States. Harrell may try to return to MLB if things go well for him next season in the Korean Baseball Organization. Rotoworld.com

  • Phillies ink Phelps to minor league
Phillies signed INF Cord Phelps to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Phelps spent most of 2014 with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, batting .259/.361/.388 with seven homers and 51 RBI in 99 games. The 27-year-old could compete for a bench job in the spring. Rotoworld.com

  • Bruce can block trades to eight teams
Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports that Reds outfielder Jay Bruce can block trades to the Blue Jays, Yankees, Athletics, Rays, Diamondbacks, Red Sox, Marlins, and Twins.

Advice: The Blue Jays have reportedly talked about the possibility of acquiring Bruce, but he would have to waive his no-trade clause in order for a deal to happen. This doesn't rule out Toronto as a possibility, as players often leverage their no-trade clauses for some sort of incentive. Bruce, 27, is $12 million in 2015 and $12.5 million in 2016 and his contract includes a $13 million team option for 2017 with a $1 million buyout. Rotoworld.com

  • White Sox designate Carroll for assignment
White Sox designated RHP Scott Carroll for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Adam LaRoche on the 40-man roster. Carroll, 29, had a 4.80 ERA and 64/45 K/BB ratio in 129 1/3 innings across 19 starts and seven relief appearances this past season. There's not much upside here, but he could draw some interest from other teams. Rotoworld.com

  • Indians among teams interested in Headley
Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports that the Indians are among the teams who have shown interest in free agent third baseman Chase Headley.

Advice: While the Indians are interested, Castrovince writes that it's unclear whether they have made an offer. The Yankees plan to make a strong push to bring Headley back, but the Giants appear likely to pursue him now that Pablo Sandoval has left for the Red Sox. Rotoworld.com

  • Red Sox designate Lavarnway for assignment
Red Sox designated 1B Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Pablo Sandoval on the 40-man roster. Lavarnway gained some momentum as a prospect after posting some big numbers in the minors a couple of years ago, but his success hasn't translated in the majors. Still, the 27-year-old figures to draw some interest on waivers. Rotoworld.com

  • Mets have shown interest in LHP Breslow
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Mets have shown interest in free agent reliever Craig Breslow.

Advice: The Mets are targeting a left-handed reliever this offseason, but aren't willing to pay the high price for Andrew Miller, so Breslow is a logical fit. The 34-year-old had a disappointing 5.96 ERA and 37/28 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings with the Red Sox this season, but he has bounceback potential. Rotoworld.com

  • Rockies among teams interested in Correia
Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Rockies are among a "group of teams" showing early interest in free agent right-hander Kevin Correia.

Advice: Correia, 34, had a rough 5.44 ERA over 26 starts and six relief appearances this season between the Twins and Dodgers. He has decent career numbers at Coors Field, but things probably wouldn't get much better with a move to Colorado. Rotoworld.com

  • Looking for lefty pop, Jays discussing Bruce
Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports the Blue Jays have talked about Jay Bruce as a possible acquisition target.

Advice: The Jays, according to Morosi, are looking to add a left-handed bat to their lineup, and the Reds are rumored to be considering dealing the 27-year-old. Bruce would be a nice addition for a team that has lost Adam Lind and possibly Melky Cabrera from the left side. The Padres are among the other teams reportedly talking to the Reds about the slugger. • Adduci released, headed to Asia next?
    Rangers released OF Jim Adduci.

Advice: Adduci intends to play in Asia next season, very probably in Japan. The Rangers are in the process of selling his rights, which today's move makes possible. Adduci, 30 in May, slashed only .189/.259/.242 over 148 big league plate appearances. Rotoworld.com

Rangers designated OF Jim Adduci for assignment.

Advice: The Rangers are attempting to sell his rights to a team in Japan. Adduci hit in the minors, but he'll turn 30 in May and has managed just a .189/.259/.242 line over 148 big league plate appearances. Rotoworld.com

  • Pads, others have talked to Reds about Bruce
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Reds "have engaged in preliminary discussions" about a trade involving Jay Bruce.

Advice: Rosenthal adds that the Padres are one of the clubs the Reds have spoken to about Bruce. Although they're not committing to dealing the outfielder, the Reds are weighing a variety of options as they consider trimming the payroll. Bruce is coming off the worst season of his career, but the Reds attribute at least part of his struggles to coming back too soon from knee surgery. Rosenthal says the outfielder rejected two contract extension proposals before the 2014 season. Bruce is under control through 2017. Rotoworld.com

  • Red Sox claim Juan Francisco off waivers
Red Sox claimed 3B Juan Francisco off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Advice: He could be non-tendered if the Red Sox are able to reel in Pablo Sandoval. As it stands right now, though, Francisco is an option at third base along with Will Middlebrooks. Francisco belted 16 homers in just 320 at-bats for the Jays this season but hit only .220/.291/.456 overall. MLBTradeRumors.com projects him to make $2.2 million in his second year of arbitration.
