  • Jaso (concussion) not expected to return
John Jaso (concussion) is not expected to return this season.

Advice: A doctor failed to clear Jaso to return last week and he has yet to resume baseball activities since then. He hit a solid .264/.337/.430 when healthy this year, but this is now his second straight season that's ended due to concussions. His time as a catcher might be finished. Rotoworld.com

  • Francisco Cervelli returns to the lineup
Francisco Cervelli went 2-for-3 at the plate Tuesday in his return to the lineup.

Advice: Cervelli had been out since September 2 because of migraine headaches. They shouldn't be an issue moving forward. Rotoworld.com

  • C Posey's homer helps to sink the Snakes
Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a homer in the Giants' 2-1 win against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: If you're one of those owners with a meticulous nature, you may have known that Posey against Arizona starter Josh Collmenter was one of the best matchups on the board tonight. Long story short, it cashed, and Posey is now 11-for-18 (.611) with three home runs and a double lifetime against Collmenter. Posey also came into tonight batting .408 with 12 RBI in his last 13 games at Chase Field. Rotoworld.com

  • Gomes hits 19th home run in win over Astros
Yan Gomes went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over the Astros Tuesday.

Advice: Gomes hit the homer, his 19th of the year, in the sixth inning to give the Indians a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The catcher is setting personal bests across the board this year, owning 64 RBI to go with a .286/.320/.477 line. Rotoworld.com

  • Martin's homer sends Pirates to win over BOS
Russell Martin extended his hitting streak to eight games, slugging a two-run home run in the second inning of Tuesday's win against the Red Sox.

Advice: Martin, who finished 1-for-4, took Anthony Ranaudo out to right-center for a two-run home run in the second inning, putting the Buccos up 2-0 at the time. It's the catcher's 10th long ball of the season, and he now owns a .294/.408/.434 with 63 RBI. Martin should wind up with a few back-end NL MVP votes after the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Vogt (ankle) encouraged by progress
Stephen Vogt (ankle) took batting practice Tuesday.

Advice: It came after he did some running Monday, though he's yet to be cleared to run the bases. He's encouraged by how his sprained left ankle has responded and could be available to pinch-hit in a few days. Rotoworld.com

  • Geovany Soto (back) 'good to go'
Geovany Soto (back) said Tuesday that he's "good to go."

Advice: Soto left Friday's game due to back spasms but has apparently made the necessary progress in recent days. He's not starting Tuesday but will be available off the bench. Rotoworld.com

  • Avila (head) out of DET lineup again Tuesday
Alex Avila (head) is out of the Tigers' starting lineup again on Tuesday night.

Advice: Avila took a foul tip off his mask on Sunday, so he was held out Monday and Bryan Holaday will get another start behind the plate Tuesday versus the Twins. Avila has a history of concussions, so the Tigers are going to play it safe with him down the stretch. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 1:42 pm
  • Evan Gattis (strep throat) out again Tuesday
Evan Gattis (strep throat) remains out of the Braves' lineup Tuesday.

Advice: Gattis is dealing with strep throat and will now miss his eighth straight start. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return. Rotoworld.com

  • Posey drives in a run in loss to the Snakes
Buster Posey went 1-for-4 with an RBI as the Giants fell to the Diamondbacks 6-2 on Monday.

Advice: He has hit safely in six straight. Posey has knocked in 27 of his 86 RBI in his last 23 games. He's been particularly hot in the season's final month, going 22-for-49 (.449) with two homers and 14 RBI in September. The catcher typically feasts on Rattler pitchers, coming into this one hitting .375 with 17 RBI in his last 18 against Arizona. He's slashing .311/.362/.488 with 20 homers. Rotoworld.com

  • Wilin Rosario goes 3-for-4, homers
Wilin Rosario went 3-for-4 and homered against the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: It's worth wondering what's in store for Rosario after his disappointing offensive season; despite all of his success in 2012 and 2013, the Rockies tried to sign Brian McCann last winter with the idea of moving Rosario out from behind the plate. There won't really be anywhere to move Rosario this winter, so he'll either remain a catcher or possibly get traded. It'd be a case of selling low for the Rockies, though. Rotoworld.com

  • Joe Mauer knocks in four runs
Joe Mauer drove in four runs with a pair of singles Monday against the Tigers.

Advice: If only Mauer had hit like his usual self in the first half, he could have racked up some nice RBI numbers behind a surprisingly productive top of the Twins order. At least he has been better since coming off the DL, driving in 22 runs in 34 games. He had just 28 RBI in 76 games before getting hurt. Rotoworld.com

  • Christian Bethancourt goes 2-for-4
Christian Bethancourt went 2-for-4 and drove in a run Monday against the Nationals.

Advice: Bethancourt has gotten the call over Gerald Laird with Evan Gattis out, and he's hit .321 with four RBI in eight games this month, albeit with no extra-base hits and no walks. For the year, he's at .269 with just one extra-base hit (a double) and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 78 at-bats. Since he's at least managed to hold his own -- and since he's a big defensive upgrade over Gattis -- he will give the Braves a tough decision to make this winter. He's going to be their long-term catcher; it just remains to be seen whether he's going to push Gattis to the outfield this winter or if he'll have to wait a little longer. Rotoworld.com

  • D-Backs call up C Bobby Wilson
Diamondbacks purchased the contract of C Bobby Wilson from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Wilson, 31, batted .267/.324/.341 with three home runs and 38 RBI over 76 games this season in Triple-A. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2012 with the Angels, but will give Arizona an extra catcher over the final two weeks. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 2:10 pm
  • Alex Avila (head) not in Monday's lineup
Alex Avila (head) is not in Monday's lineup against the Twins.

Advice: Avila left Sunday's game with lightheadedness after taking a foul tip off the mark. The Tigers aren't going to take any chances, given his history. Bryan Holaday will start behind the plate. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 1:28 pm
  • Evan Gattis (strep throat) out again Monday
Evan Gattis (strep throat) is out of the Braves' lineup again Monday against the Nationals.

Advice: Gattis hasn't played since last Sunday due to strep throat. He's scheduled to meet with doctors to determine why his symptoms haven't subsided. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis d'Arnaud batting third for first time
Travis d'Arnaud is batting third Monday for the first time in his major league career.

Advice: The 25-year-old catcher boasts a .366 average and .970 OPS in 44 plate appearances this month. He has primarily hit fifth or seventh for New York this season. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 12:29 pm
  • Stephen Vogt unlikely to be ready on Tuesday
Stephen Vogt (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to return for Tuesday's series opener against the Rangers.

Advice: Vogt has been able to take swings in the batting cages in recent days, but is still bothered too much by his sore ankle to run the bases at full strength. Even if he does return at some point next week, he is likely to play only sporadically which makes it difficult to trust him in weekly formats. Rotoworld.com

  • Alex Avila leaves game with lightheadedness
Alex Avila left Sunday's game against the Indians with lightheadedness.

Advice: Avila took yet another foul tip off his mask in Sunday's contest. While he didn't display concussion-like symptoms, the Tigers opted to play things cautiously given his history. He is likely to receive an off-day on Monday as well. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 4:39 pm
  • Molina has three-hit afternoon versus Rockies
Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Rockies.

Advice: Molina hit a ground-rule double in the eighth inning, coming in to score on a wild pitch. As he continues to distance himself from his thumb injury, Molina's hitting continues to improve -- he's got a five-game hitting streak in which he's 8-for-17 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. The catcher is hitting .287/.343/.395 overall. Rotoworld.com

  • Cervelli (migraines) close to returning
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Saturday that Francisco Cervelli (migraine headaches) is "getting closer" to returning to action.

Advice: Cervelli hasn't played since September 2 due to migraine headaches but has been catching in the bullpen. It's been an injury-shortened season for the 28-year-old, as Cervelli missed nearly two months earlier this year with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld.com

  • Avila slugs go-ahead HR, Tigers stay in first
Alex Avila slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the Tigers' 5-4 defeat of the Indians on Saturday.

Advice: Detroit was trailing 4-3 when Avila took Bryan Shaw deep in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was his only hit of the night, but it helped keep the Tigers at the top of the American League Central standings (by a half-game over the Royals). Avila is batting .222/.329/.371 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI in 117 games this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Geovany Soto feels batter after back spasms
Geovany Soto told reporters Saturday that his back is already beginning to feel better.

Advice: Soto left Friday's game against the Mariners with back spasms and is not playing Saturday. The A's might also rest him on Sunday, but he should be good to go for Tuesday's series-opener against the Rangers. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 5:56 pm
  • Gattis (strep throat) to miss Sunday as well
Evan Gattis (strep throat) will remain out of the Braves' lineup on Sunday versus the Rangers.

Advice: Gattis has been sidelined with strep since Monday. This is obviously bad news for the Braves as they battle for a spot in the playoffs. He is batting .270/.325/.507 with 22 homers and 52 RBI on the season. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 1:10 pm
  • Evan Gattis remains out of Braves lineup
Evan Gattis (strep throat) remains out of the Braves starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Gattis reported feeling better on Saturday morning, but the Braves are rolling with Christian Bethancourt behind the dish and Tommy La Stella at designated hitter instead. Look for the White Bear to return to the middle of the Braves lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 8:16 am
  • Molina has RBI double Friday vs. Rockies
Yadier Molina connected for an RBI double in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Advice: The eighth-inning double was his first extra-base hit since returning from the disabled list. It's a good sign, but Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated Thursday that Molina's thumb is not yet 100 percent. Fantasy owners might have better options for the final two weeks of the regular season. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 10:02 pm
  • Geovany Soto exits with back spasms
Geovany Soto left Friday's game against the Mariners due to back spasms.

Advice: The A's have a third catcher in Bryan Anderson, but they chose to put DH Derek Norris behind the plate after Soto exited. He's likely day-to-day, but it's another blow to Oakland's catching depth with Stephen Vogt and John Jaso sidelined. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 9:33 pm
  • D'Arnaud (wrist) doubles in return to action
Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) had a two-run double Friday against the Nationals.

Advice: D'Arnaud made an early exit Thursday due to a wrist issue, but it's apparently not a big deal. Three runs actually scored on his double in the first inning, but he was only credited with two RBI because of an error. The 25-year-old is batting .246/.305/.416 in his first full season in the majors, but he has come a long way offensively since returning from his demotion in June. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 8:30 pm
  • Gattis (strep throat) remains out of lineup
Evan Gattis (strep throat) remained out of the Braves' lineup Friday.

Advice: The Braves had anticipated him being ready for designated hitter duty in Texas, but Gattis still isn't feeling up to it. He'll visit the doctor Friday to see if there's anything else he can try to do to get him ready to play at some point this weekend. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 2:47 pm
  • Travis d'Arnaud in Mets' lineup Friday
Travis d'Arnaud is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.

Advice: The Mets used Thursday's lopsided scored to get d'Arnaud some rest for a wrist that's been sore lately. The young catcher is hitting .279/.322/.485 with seven homers in the second half. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 12:12 pm
  • Stephen Vogt (ankle) remains sidelined
Stephen Vogt (ankle) might be available at some point during the Athletics' September 16-24 homestand.

Advice: Vogt took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday but is still bothered by a sprained left ankle. He hasn't played since September 3 and can't be counted on for the rest of the season. "It was a pretty significant sprain," manager Bob Melvin said. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis d'Arnaud nursing minor wrist injury
Travis d'Arnaud has been nursing a minor wrist injury.

  • Buster Posey propels Giants to win
Buster Posey went 3-for-5 with an RBI as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 6-2 on Thursday.

Advice: It would have been a four-hit day if not for a nice play in the eighth. Even so, Posey is hitting .472 in 36 at-bats this month and .371 with eight homers and 28 RBI in 143 at-bats since the beginning of August. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 4:26 pm
  • Yadier Molina's thumb still affecting him
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny conceded Thursday that Yadier Molina's surgically-repaired right thumb is still affecting the catcher.

Advice: "You can see the splint," Matheny said. "He's still protecting it and doing things to strengthen it." Molina is hitting just .234/.315/.234 with no extra-base hits since returning from the disabled list and took some awkward swings on Wednesday before getting the day off Thursday. He could round into shape by the end of the month, but fantasy owners might be better off using someone else for the time being, if possible. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 3:29 pm
  • Yan Gomes homers, doubles in win over MIN
Yan Gomes homered, doubled and knocked in three runs Thursday against the Twins.

Advice: The homer was his first in 12 games since he returned from a concussion. Gomes has 18 homers and 62 RBI for the year, making him one of the game's best offensive catchers. He's no slouch behind the dish, either. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 11:53 am
  • Yadier Molina not in Cards' lineup Thursday
Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon versus the Reds.

Advice: It's just routine day of maintenance for the All-Star catcher, who is batting .234 with a .549 OPS since returning in late August from a torn thumb ligament. He had a very short rehab assignment and is obviously still trying to find his timing. A.J. Pierzynski will start at catcher in the series finale in Cincy. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 7:23 am
  • Martin knocks in three runs as PIT tops PHI
Russell Martin knocked in three runs for the Pirates as they handed the Phillies a loss on Wednesday.

Advice: Martin singled in a pair in the first inning against a laboring Jerome Williams. The catcher then slugged a solo home run to break a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning. Martin, who is a free agent after the season, could soon cash in on his strong season, as he has swatted nine home runs and knocked in 57 runs along with a .291/.409/.421 slash line. Rotoworld.com

  • Jaso (concussion) still not cleared to play
John Jaso (concussion) failed to be cleared to play by a doctor Wednesday.

Advice: Jaso had a meeting with Dr. Mickey Collins in hopes of being cleared to return, but instead Jaso has been told to cease baseball activities for the time being. Jaso has returned to Oakland, and suddenly his return to the A's during the regular season is up in the air. Rotoworld.com

Evan Gattis (strep throat) is expected to be ready to serve as the designated hitter this weekend in Texas.

Advice: Gattis will miss a third straight game Wednesday due to strep throat, but he's feeling better and will be ready to at least bat over the weekend. "El Oso Blanco" is hitting .270/.325/.507 with 22 homers and 52 RBI over 102 games this season. Christian Bethancourt is behind the plate again Wednesday. Rotoworld.com

  • Posey drives in a pair of runs in 5-1 victory
Buster Posey finished 0-for-4 but still drove in a pair of runs in the Giants' 5-1 win against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: He grounded into an RBI fielder's choice in the second inning, and lifted a sacrifice fly to left in the sixth to score Angel Pagan. Posey adores Arizona pitching. Even though he didn't hit safely tonight, he came into this game batting .390 with three homers and 14 RBI in his last 15 games versus the Snakes. It wasn't a surprise he scratched out an RBI against Wade Miley, against whom he entered 9-for-20 with a homer and three doubles lifetime. Rotoworld.com

  • Gattis (strep throat) aims for Friday return
Evan Gattis (strep throat) is hoping to return to the Braves' lineup on Friday.

Advice: Gattis missed a second straight game Tuesday due to strep throat. His symptoms are improving, but the Braves have told him to stay at the team hotel through Wednesday before making the trip to Texas this weekend. "He's feeling better, but he's still at the hotel," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Hopefully we'll get to see him tomorrow sometime, because we've got to fly out tomorrow. I don't know when, if it'll be game time or what, but I'm sure we'll see him." Rotoworld.com

John Jaso (concussion) will be examined by Dr. Mickey Collins on Wednesday in hopes of being cleared to return to action.

  • John Jaso (head) expected to return this week
John Jaso is expected to return from the concussion disabled list this week.

Advice: But Joe Stiglich of CSNBayArea.com suspects that he will be used primarily as a pinch-hitter down the stretch because the A's "don't want to subject Jaso to further injury behind the plate given the multiple concussions he's suffered" and have Adam Dunn locked in as the DH against right-handers.
