    • Alex Verdugo blasts two-run homer in win
Alex Verdugo went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Verdugo launched a two-run homer off Josh Winckowski in the third inning, then knocked a base hit in the fifth before scoring on a bases loaded walk as the Yankees brought seven runs in to score in the frame. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .246/.302/.401 with ten homers and 45 RBI across 364 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 1:14 pm

    • Gerrit Cole strikes out eight in no-decision Saturday
Gerrit Cole allowed four runs with eight strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Cole worked through two scoreless innings, including a base-loaded jam in the second that he escaped with a strikeout. A double, walk, and three base hits would bring three runs in to score for Boston in the third. Cole struck out the side in the fourth inning before Rafael Devers took him deep for a solo shot in the fifth. That would be it for Cole at 90 pitches. He struck out a season-high eight batters. Through four starts, the 33-year-old right-hander holds a 6.75 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and a 19/8 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Orioles in Baltimore on Friday. • Jose Altuve out Saturday with left hand contusion
Jose Altuve (hand) is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Twins.

Advice: The positive news here for fantasy managers is that X-rays came back negative after Altuve was hit by a pitch on the left hand during Friday’s game against the Twins. The 34-year-old veteran second baseman is day-to-day for now and will get some extra time off this weekend to rest and recover. It sounds like there’s a possibility he’ll return for Sunday’s series finale at Target Field. Rotoworld Today, 8:41 am

    • Sitting down Saturday
Altuve (hand) isn't in the Astros' lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Altuve was diagnosed with a left hand contusion after getting hit by a pitch during Friday's contest. He'll get a day off Saturday in order to heal while Mauricio Dubon starts at second base and bats seventh. Rotowire.com Today, 8:37 am

    • Knocks homer in loss
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Friday.

Advice: Langeliers' seventh-inning, 412-foot shot to center closed the Athletics' deficit to 3-2, which would turn out to be the final score. It was the 16th homer across 75 games -- and third in the last nine -- for Langeliers, who appears very likely to surpass the career-best 22 he slugged last season if he's able to avoid any extended absences. • Struggles continue Friday
Holmes blew his fifth save chance of the season in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, giving up two runs on two hits in the ninth inning without striking out a batter.

Advice: With two outs in the ninth and the Yankees holding a 3-1 lead, Holmes gave up a single to Dominic Smith before leaving a sinker over the middle of the plate that Masataka Yoshida blasted to right field for a game-tying homer. Holmes has been tagged for runs in five of seven appearances since his last save June 9, stumbling to a 10.80 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 6.2 innings over that stretch despite an 8:0 K:BB. His spot as the Yankees' closer doesn't seem to be in jeopardy yet, but the 31-year-old will likely need to right the ship before the trade deadline if he doesn't want New York shopping for his replacement. • Clay Holmes blows save by giving up homer
Clay Holmes took his fifth blown save after giving up a game-tying two-run homer Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Holmes retired the first two batters he faced, but then a single and a homer ruined his night. The homer, a 405-foot blast from Masataka Yoshida, was just the second he’s allowed in 36 innings this season. He’s been stuck on 19 saves since June 9, and while that’s mostly the fault of his teammates, he has given up runs in five of his last seven appearances. Even though Holmes is almost certainly one of the game’s 15- or 20-best relievers, there is the chance that the Yankees will supplant him in the closer’s role at the trade deadline. • Alex Verdugo goes 0-for-5 in defeat
Alex Verdugo went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts as the Yankees’ cleanup hitter Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Verdugo homered in his first game against his former team last month, but that’s the only homer he’s hit in five weeks since May 29. He’s hitting a modest .244/.301/.392 for the season, and he’s fortunate Jasson Dominguez’s oblique injury has left the Yankees with no quality replacements for him in left field. • X-rays on hand negative
X-rays on Altuve's left hand came back negative following his removal from Friday's game versus Minnesota, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Advice: Altuve made an early exit from Friday's game in the eighth inning after taking a pitch off his hand, but he managed to escape the incident with only a bruise. It's possible he sits out a game or two in order to give his hand a chance to properly recover, but an extended absence isn't likely. The 34-year-old is slashing .387/.457/.516 with a homer and five RBI over his last seven games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:52 pm
